I think Apple must release info this week otherwise people will start to lose interest and with the wifi issues being reported in the States people may just decide to not bother. Crunch time me thinks.
:(

Really? Given the 33 page thread by UK users alone here, do you think afew Wi-Fi issues are going to settle our appetite?

More likely is that the longer this goes on, the more money eBay resellers will start to see coming their way!

Well, thats made my mind up for me, i'll wait a couple of months till its all sorted. If its a hardware issue they would have sorted it by then.

Bugger....

But if it is a hardware issue they will replace it for you if your iPad is faulty so i dont see the point in holding off :)

Yep, buy it from an Apple store and you'll have great customer services. Personally i'd avoid the resellers unless they offer a significant discount (unlikely there'll be any discount for a couple of months anyway).

Re: Warranties

There are also reports of a time keeping bug surfacing today.

Let the Americans beta test it for the next few weeks so Apple can release an update to fix the bugs in time for when it goes on sale in the UK. :D

I'm in a 'marginal seat' at the moment wondering whether to get an iPad off eBay & trying to convince myself I don't really need the 3G.

But just spoke to the iPad 'magical' hotline at Apple who confirmed warranties are restricted to country of sale so wifi problems or dead pixels it would have to be sent back to US for service.
Too big a risk for me. Let's hope there's the info we need soon. I got my 3gs iPhone direct from Apple on the morning of release day so there's no chance of my queuing at an Apple store. My MBP & iMac were ordered online from the Apple store by phone so that's my choice for the iPad-I just need more patience!!!

Thanks for that. Not that I was really very tempted by the ebay deals - but that has really cemented it!

Ive never had to send an apple product back yet is don't want to start with this. As they say "Patience is a Vertue"

My early 2009 MBP had 2 replacement motherboards & a new hard disk, my 27" 1TB iMac was refunded due to a noisy HD & its 2TB replacement has just come back from a free repair with new HD & graphics card after screen-freeze issues.
I think there are real problems with quality control in the Far East but with Applecare for 3 years no problems.

That's either a load of BS to discourage you from buying early from the US, or an iPad only policy as my my girlfriend got her MBA from the US when studying over there and had it looked at over here under warranty, and also my TC was bought in the US and is covered over here in the UK.

From the iPad warranty:
If you seek service in a country that is not the country of original purchase,
you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for
all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges. Where international service is
available, Apple may repair or exchange defective products and parts with comparable products
and parts that comply with local standards. In accordance with applicable law, Apple may require
that you furnish proof of purchase details and/or comply with registration requirements before
receiving warranty service.

From iPad AppleCare:

d. This Plan is offered and valid only in the United States of America and Canada. This Plan is not offered
to persons who have not reached the age of majority. This Plan may not be available in all states or
provinces, and is not available where prohibited by law.

Some people just don't seem to get that Apple warranties differ between different products. Their computer hardware is international, everything else differs upon the product.

Well this is all very frustrating, isn't it? I'm reminded of the panic-fuelled furore when the iPod touch came out over here, well before the iPhone, and people were gagging for it, rushing down to Apple Stores to try and snag one etc etc. I have to admit I'm gagging for the iPad now, and all the various rumours are very confusing and disappointing, especially the one about pricing on 20th, released on 30th, no pre-orders, gotta queue up. That basically means I won't be getting one on launch day because no matter how desperately I want one, I'm just not so sad that I'll go camp out and risk not even getting the one I want (32GB, 3G please).

Very, VERY tempted by an eBayer who claimed this morning to have 10 32GB WiFi models, boxed, in Scarborough, selling for £549 including postage. He's got five left. If it wasn't for all this confusion over warranties and the fact that the WiFi issues are now becoming quite widely reported (which doesn't necessarily mean they are more common of course!) I'd have done it by now.

But at the end of the day, it's just a piece of computer equipment. I can wait a few more weeks and get the one I want in the country I live in.

Saw a 16gb bin sub £400. So tempted.

I'm off on a long weekend break with the family in the Lake District at the weekend. If I can hold off 'till then I'm safe from hitting ebay until next monday which hopefully, the UK picture will be a bit clearer.

Ideally, I want something actually in the UK. Don't want to get stung with import duty and the usual parcelforce 'tax'.

I almost just clinched a 32GB for £490 already in the UK. :( I just want to know the UK price, but I can't imagine it will be much cheaper than that. Maybe 10-20 quid cheaper maximum.

I'm betting that £549 is only going to be another 50 quid more then the official uk price anyway. At least you'd get it 2-3 weeks before anyone else would. Is that worth £50 to you? I know if I was after a 32Gb model, I'd be sorely tempted myself.
