Same here. In fact it became even more redundant after I got the iPhone 12.

I’m just overwhelmed by devices and don’t even know where to put them. I like minimal neat living.

My laptop is the work machine, all day long. My iPad Por sits in the bedroom or living room but is barely used. Instead I just continue browsing, listening to Podcasts, watching YouTube vids all on my phone.

Apple has a lot of patents. This may or may not arrive. But no one should do anything based on unreleased features.
Hence, the reason I said to "take this with a grain of salt".

I was the same way. I had an iPad Air 2 that I recently used Apple trade in to get rid of after owning 6.5 years. I got $100 for it which was reasonable but I think the battery on it only had about 60 some charge cycles when I got rid of it. Before I got rid of devices I had an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6s, iPod touch 5, iPad 3, iPhone 11 Pro, iPad Air 2, MacBook Pro, Apple Watch series 5, and and Apple TV. I have got rid of everything (I upgraded my MacBook Pro late 2013 to the new 14”) and just have the current devices: iPhone 11 Pro, Apple Watch series 5, Apple TV, and MacBook Pro. With my iPhone 6s in a drawer as a backup iPhone . I think an iPad was more useful when the iPhones were smaller than they are now.

My biggest annoyance with multiple devices is notifications. I used to hate let’s say having facebook for an example on an iPad and iPhone at the same time. Let’s say I get a notification for it and look at it on my iPhone, I would then pick up the iPad and see the same thing on the Lock Screen. For me the notifications were annoying/multiple notifications of the same thing on multiple devices was annoying.

For some reason too with my old iPad, I would turn it on once in a while and I would get texts that would come over to my phone that I had already deleted off my phone. It was super annoying. Maybe there was a simple fix for this but it was just annoying. Just some of my thoughts….

And when today's stars are talking about "having great matches" and "stealing the show" it gives off the impression that the characters are motivated to get high star ratings. That can be the performer's motivations, sure, but the characters on the show should not be talking like that. When the camera is on, the goal should be to give off the impression that they want to win matches, make money, and beat their opponents.

Did you post this in the right thread? I may be wrong but it doesn't seem related to the topic.

Yeah, I would LOVE one device rules all. For the first time since the iPad 3, I've decided to just go 16' MBP and iPhone Pro Max. Over a month down now and all is well! Works for me because of how I use my devices - I completely understand those who keep their iPads - they are amazing devices.

I mostly used my iPad for reading books so it was easy for me to stop using an iPad after using one for the last handful of years. I too am getting device overwhelmed. Been using my phone more than ever these days (for the first time in a handful of years).

Which is why for the first time I’m considering going to a iPhone pro max next time. My wife always ask me why do I like watching shows on my phones and such. The truth is it’s just easier and quicker. When the TV (even Apple TV) the interface is just so much work. Waiting for the TV to turn on waiting for the receiver to kick in and all. Especially with kids around I need something that I have with me at all time and can more or less do it all (other than computing). Even WFH meeting is mostly done on the phone anyways. I might get the iPad mini for reading but that’s pretty much it.

And it gets worse when one factors in foldable phones. This year I have stayed away from the Samsung Fold 3 and I may do the same next year, but by the time Fold 5 comes around most of the vulnerable tech like the screen, and critical tech like battery + S Pen etc will have matured/been integrated. At that point, I will have no reason not to opt for a foldable. That is when the Mini will become totally redundant for me. I recently bought the Mini 6, but in retrospect, it was a bit of an overkill. I still have a good use case for it (which is why I did not return it), but I overestimated it’s value in my workflow.

So, when foldables mature, will I still keep the 11” IPP? Very likely, yes. Why? I have said it before and I’ll say it again, the iPad (particularly, the IPP) is the best reading and note taking device. And, that’s the reason that I will likely have one around. I don’t want the IPP to be a replacement for my laptop. I just need it for what it is, namely, an excellent tablet.

Hit 30 this year so personally that‘s now true ? Doubt it’s true generally though, I expect there are a lot of Apple Pencils and perhaps even MK’s at universities nowadays. iPads are far more versatile than they were a decade ago when it was iPhones and MacBooks.

Seems like a good choice. When friends or family ask which computer to buy and hearing their needs, they could get away with an iPad. But I still recommended them to buy the cheapest M1 MBA. And so far, everybody is extremely happy with their M1 MBA.

If I told them to buy the iPad instead, I’m sure I would have received a few complaints.

The iPad is just a big smartphone with pencil support (some smartphones also have pencil support btw). You are at the mercy of the mobile operating system and mobile apps.

I do have a M1 12.9 iPad Pro but I see it as an iPad and no way in hell as a laptop. My 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro destroys my M1 12.9 iPad Pro, the difference is not even funny.

Yeah selling it tomorrow, can get a new 13” M1 air 512gb for same as selling my M1 12.9 256gb wifi.
14% off on Amazon.

See, to me that is like saying I'm selling my boat and going to get a car. Yeah, they both can get you rto places, but they are not nearly the same thing. To me, a laptop and a tablet are two entirely different experiences, even though both are computers.
