Oh...so NOW it's the TEXTURE, NOT the WEIGHT.

Hmmm...

It's everything. It's the weight. It's the context in which you are using it. It's how easy it is to grip (although that's easily remedied with a silicone case I find).

Of course, that's the way life is in general. If MacBooks were made of slippery pigskin I'm guessing you'd call people whiners for disliking them because that seems to be what you're about.

I'm about listening to the experience of individuals and gathering information to make decisions. There have been many helpful posts in this thread. You can take a guess that yours aren't amongst them.

As SNL's Roseanne Roseannadanna said, "Well it just goes to show you, it's ALWAYS SOMETHING. Either you got a toenail in your hamburger or you got toilet paper clinging to your shoe."

SOME people  ALWAYS seem to find that toenail...and it's ALWAYS the same ones.

Finally found an ignore / block list. Sorry, everyone. I get caught up defending my point of view and trying to steer a dialogue to being mature and reasonable. This is one of those times where it wasn't worth it. Sorry.

So - as I've said earlier in this thread - I don't mind the weight of the iPad, but I understand that someone who expected to be able to read with it holding it up with one hand only, would be disappointed. So this is a question directed at the smug superhuman bodybuilder-type posters in this thread:

Are you actually able to comfortably hold up the iPad in the same way that the woman is doing it in this video with her kindle (try concentrating on her hand ;)) for long amounts of reading time?

By the way - I own a fountain pen that seems too heavy for me, considering its purpose - guess that makes me an uberwimp, eh? After all, you could probably lift weights a hundred times as heavy

Time for you to get out of the house, dude. Push away from the computer; wipe the Cheetos dust off of your bathrobe, and take a shower.

(Ignore the last part...I see you're in France. :D)

Funny stuff :)

What I don't get is why you have to make all of these "ad hominem" abuses, instead of staying with the arguments.
I mean, seriously, making fun of the fact that someone's a ballett dancer?! Telling people to "take their meds"? Reminds me of kindergarten - or maybe a high school bully.

For example, why haven't you responded to my question raised in one of the previous posts?

I'm not in France by the way, although they do speak French just a few minutes away from here

...another one just looking for something to complain about.

I bet if somebody handed you $50, you'd whine and complain that it wasn't $100.

Don't want an iPad?
Don't think it is comfortable to hold?

Don't buy one.

You may have overlooked that I'm not actually complaining about the iPad's weight. A lot of people come on here for research, when they're about to make a buying decision. It might help them to find out whether the iPad's comfortable to use and hold as a reading device for longer amounts of time, especially in comparison to devices like the Kindle.

...and you may have overlooked the fact that NOBODY can determine how comfortable it is holding an iPad simply by READING a forum, especially where some people come to vent about minutiae.

The ONLY way to tell how comfortable, or uncomfortable, it is holding an iPad is to actually hold one...

True - good point! But you'll only really find out whether reading is comfortable on an iPad for you by buying it, and before doing so, people like to get the opinion of others and find out what their experiences with a product are. That's all.

I mean, for the record, I find the original post in this thread to be ridiculous in its tone, but that doesn't mean that there haven't been other sensible contributions here.

It's kind of embarrassing. I wanted to have a rational discussion, but how can you when everything is an ad hominem attack. I think the bully analogy is right. The thing I don't get is why the moderators won't do anything about it. Do they not exist?

I'm coming to the conclusion that the site isn't very good for research. I have been wanting to start my own thread where people who own an iPad could give me their opinions on using an iPad for tech books over the long term. I've had some pain recently and I'm trying to figure out what's causing it. I'm inclined to give up on large $50 computer books in favor of the iPad, but I'd like to see the opinions of others.

Preferably not "opinions" where people suggest I'm not manly because I'm subject to physics and ergonomics. So I haven't started that thread yet. Hoping to glean that information here while I find a more suitable forum.

Try asking legitimate questions. How about " What is the best way to hold the iPad ?", instead of " Waa waa waa. My vagina hurts. The iPad is too heavy"...

Best comment yet...and SO appropriate. These whiners aren't really LOOKING for a solution, anyway. I have a hunch that most of them carry on like this in their personal lives too.

My question is simple and has been around since I came here. What are the other experiences of others with regards to ergonomics? Mine doesn't feel quite comfortable, so I wasn't if it was just me. That's it. Simple, easy. Give me your opinion and you'll have helped me. What you wrote isn't helpful. And it's not terribly clever. More bullying by people behind screens. Yawn...

Also, don't bother replying. Blocking you as well. I need advice, not this nonsense.

If we play our cards right, this guy will have blocked everybody on the board before long.

This thread reminds me of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where Frank imitates Ray's neediness...

"Frank: Oh my pinkie! It hurts! The keys are too hard!"
