That doesn’t allow one to properly adjust the color balance.

Like you said, you are coming from the mini 2, which was a very poor display compared to the 4.
[doublepost=1555158060][/doublepost]
Not on my part.
[doublepost=1555158228][/doublepost]
That's one area where it is solid. No visible light bleed at all, just like my mini 4. That’s become much less of an occurrence these days. I would exchange it because the chances are very high that you'll get one that doesn’t have any light bleed. Of course that's no guarantee there won’t be something else wrong with it.

That's encouraging dgdosen. I haven’t returned mine yet but I will not do a same transaction exchange as I read recently that they will not allow for a return after an exchange. I will return mine and simply try again in the near future, with the hope that there may be some early production issues. Hopefully I’ll get lucky then.

Were those all exchanges, or did you return them and buy new ones? The reason I ask is because I had read someone saying that they don’t allow for returns after an exchange.
Glad to hear I am not the only one that has run into mini 5 display issues. I found others on the Apple forum.
[doublepost=1555159098][/doublepost]
That is one of the issues I spoke about and that I showed in the sample images I posted. So yet another mini 5 owner reporting the same thing.
[doublepost=1555160006][/doublepost]
There are now at least two other people in this forum reporting at least one of the issues I mentioned, the reddish/magenta blacks. One of them ended up returning their mini 5s multiple times. I also found others in the Apple forum with the same issues.
Right now I'm back to using my mini 4 and it is such a pleasure to look at in comparison to the mini 5. Pure looking white (no sickly yellow/greenish color balance), black is black, brighter colors and higher contrast (due to the higher white level). Even the much better viewing angles of the mini 4 is so much easier on the eyes and much more pleasurable to look at. Hate to say it but my mini 5 display is garbage in comparison.

It's a good rule that I usually follow (the same with new car models. Buy the second year), although I didn’t follow it for my mini 4 and I got lucky, because it has been perfect. I will be returning my mini 5 and waiting a while before I try again.
Does anyone remember the rumors leading up to the Mini 5 release of it having a "low-cost screen"? People interpreted that to mean a non-laminated screen like the 2018 iPad. I thought it simply meant that it wouldn't have ProMotion but the same screen as the Mini 4. Perhaps the truth is that while it is laminated, and no ProMotion, that some compromises were made to include support for the Apple Pencil and keep the price down.I totally agree with Coconutcreampie
I do not have ipad mini 4, but I now compare with ipad mini 2. Viewing angles are less than the mini 2, It strains the eye when reading. I am disappointed with the of the display.
Last time, I came across this problem on my Macbook Air 2011, but there was a cheap TFT matrix.
"A beautiful and high-quality picture, P3 and so on .." - this is all there, and this is true, but on one condition - if you look strictly perpendicular to the screen, at an angle of 90 , without moving ipad. This condition is difficult to fulfill on a mobile device.
After six years, the screen is worse ... I can't understand it.Saving Apple on everything, reached the point of absurdity.
I'd appreciate anyone's views and experience on the matter, especially from those who also own/owned the mini 4.
It might be a matter of language differences, but "lowest cost" does not mean "inexpensive".Maybe for the US it is the lowest cost iPad, America is a rich country.
I paid 599 euros for my ipad (64 gb , wi+cellular) , this is not a small price at all. This is about 670 dollars.
But I would prefer to pay another 10 or 15 percent more, but to get a better screen, without compromise.

That is what I assumed (miscommunication). Your apology isn't necessary, but it is appreciated.No, this is only related to my bad English). Now I understand. I apologize.
Yeah, i am coming from the ipad mini 2...but I also own an 11” ipad pro...and although it doesn’t have promotion, i find the ipad mini 5 screen is very comparable. So i dunno what issue you may have with yours, but i really love the screen on my ipad mini 5. It is extremely crisp & sharp with vibrant colors and great viewing angles. Even outdoors in the bright sun. Which is great cause i use mine a lot outdoors.
Yeah?

I didn't notice it that much at first, but having had the iPad Mini for around 10 days now, I can definitely notice one thing: The black level is pretty terrible. I love using black wallpapers, but with the new Mini, I had to change the wallpaper to something more colorful.
I have a 2015 iPad Pro 12.9", and even though that screen is a few years old now, I can still say the color reproduction and the black levels are better than the Mini 5.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Mini. With the A12 chip now, it's a joy to use. The screen isn't horrible by any means, and it's still very high-res, but I've been a little disappointed with the color reproduction overall. Reminds me a bit of the Mini 2 Retina Display, not as bad though. I just hate how the new Mini produces black.
Why are you so aggressive? Was it something I said?Grow up.
Mine too. No hint of magenta at all.My mini5 looks nothing like either of these photos. I must've really lucked out for once!
you are lucky, but I do not,)
Coconutcreampie, I wonder what is the reason for this magenta/red tint.
My mini5 has noticeable magenta tint of the black when is on high brightness, too. Is this due to shifted white balance?
The first thing my wife said when she saw the new mini5 iPad (turned off) was that the screen looks reddish/brownish. Indeed when compared with my other old iPad(3), the reflection of the screen has a noticable magenta tint. And I am talking with completely turned off display. It seems to me that there is some kind of magenta layer underneath. Obviously it is produced like this and is not about the calibration.
P.S. It seems that the magenta tint gets easily pronounced when viewing from an angle. This is true also for my other iPad, but on mini5 even a slight angle causes a pronounced magenta tint.
Maybe this is an extra layer to support the functions of the stylus.
