I will have to return mine too which is a massive shame as I love the form factor. I want to use the device predominately in portrait and any fast scrolling of text causes the text to tilt diagonally, in a very noticeable way. It’s unacceptable for what I paid for the device (256gb version).

Just checked in store just now and all the iPad minis on display had it. I do wonder if some people’s eyes are more able to see it than others. Basically when you scroll in portrait, especially with text, the lines of text will appear to tilt diagonally to one side. I didn’t have to go looking for this, it was immediately apparent. Interestingly, I also noticed it on the iPad Pro’s in store, only in portrait mode, and not as dramatic as on the Mini.

I’ve been using iPads since the original iPad came out and never seen this behaviour before to this degree. Possibly related to iPadOS 15? Don’t know. 🤔

I also checked different iPads on display as I was doing my return. The bigger ones had a slight jelly, but nothing as noticeable as on the Mini where it was apparent instantly. Pro models had pretty much none.

Waiting for Apple to send me a Mini next month, hoping I get a better one. Besides that I loved everything about it.

For me I can say I didn't notice it until I switched how I was looking at the screen as it was scrolling, the problem now is relearning my old way :D.

Is it still possible to look up the factory via serial number? I wonder if only certain batches were affected 🤔

might Return mine for a refund as it seems it’s affecting all iPad minis and I notice it all the time now and its quite distracting

shame as I really like this size, maybe I will repurchase at a later date

I can see it on mine and it is very distracting. Not so noticeable on an old 9.7 and Mini 5 I have, really disappointing since I bought the mini 6 to be a reader. Probably have to return it, ugh.

Yes I’ve set up a return for mine. But I absolutely love the form factor so I’m hoping Apple can do something to address this somehow in software.

I’m also hoping this gets more coverage.

Amyone who has this, we also need to make Apple aware.

So are people over emphasizing the issue? I know this tends to be the case on the internet with most things.
No, it’s just human variance in how one’s visual perception works. People truly do perceive the world differently. To one person the issue may be very obvious and impossible to ignore, while another one has difficulty to see it at all even when looking for it.

I may just open mine later and try it if some people it doesn’t bother. I wish my store was really nearby so I can just try the ones on display. I guess it doesn’t matter if I open it as Apple accepts opened returns.

Sorry to hear that this issue exists. I would like to encourage everyone who owns a Mini 6 that is exhibiting this behavior to do what you think is best for you and not let others persuade you otherwise...

If it doesn't bother you, then rock on and enjoy your device. Don't let others convince you that you are settling for "less than" or you are some how a mindless bot just going with the program.

If it does bother you and you want to return it, return it. Don't let others convince you that it isn't a big deal or that Apple will take care of it... or that you are a hypersensitive drama queen making a mountain out of a molehill.

In my experiences, except for the 1st gen iPad, it is has always been beneficial to wait a minimum of 3-4 months after the release of a device before buying. There are a lot of pressures and demands on manufacturing plants to crank out product in the lead-up to launch date. Last minute changes to the design can throw off the schedule ever so slightly that has a ripple effect in manufacturing. That can result in initial units that are "off" slightly. Manufacturing equipment might not get recalibrated with the frequency that is required.... all for the purposes of meeting those initial quantities at launch. It generally takes 3-4 months for things to settle down and kinks ironed out.

I know that can feel like a long time and FOMO is a thing for some people, but when one is spending that kind of money, it is important to have the comfort in knowing that the product lives up to what was paid for it.

Well said 👍🏼 If you check the iPhone forum right now you’ll have some people saying they see little difference with the new 120hz screens in the new Pros, and some saying there is a dramatic difference.

For me, the new 120hz screens on the Pros are a Godsend and very noticeable, and similarly I can really see this “Jelly Scroll” effect on my new Mini- it’s very disorienting and jarring.

Mine has this jelly effect as well.

This is the first time I've seen an iPad do this. It's a downgrade from the previous model considering the increase in price.

Apple giveth and taketh away. Guess what, next year's model will have an upgraded display. Dumb.

Yes I’ve never seen this in an iPad before either, and I’ve owned them all since the original!

I have just noticed this on mine. I haven’t noticed it prior to now and I received mine at lunchtime yesterday and have been using it constantly since.

I note that this isn’t limited to particular apps or websites.

It becomes more apparent with progressive scrolling.

It is not present on my iPad Mini 5 or iPad Pro 12.9 (2020)

I can see it slightly on my M1 12.9” iPad Pro, but only in portrait and nowhere near to the level of the new Mini at all.

How bad is the jelly scrolling effect? I really need to know this before I pickup my Mini 6 at the Apple today in a few hours. I still have a chance to cancel the order.

Could it be iOS 15 in combination with new 120Hz handling? With that I mean that whatever they added to the code of iOS 15 for the new iPhone 13 Pro might affect the iPads.

It could be helpful if someone with an iPad Mini 5 could do a test with iOS 14 and 15 to see if they can see a difference.

IMO mine is pretty bad but I don't have anything to compare it to. If possible test it once you have it and return on the spot if necessary.
