Ooh! Good one! Are you a professional comedy writer? You must be with that kind of clever response.

Actually, I was commenting on the fact that all 60Hz LCD displays perform this way. The OCD responses were actually started by somebody else and I piled on. If it bothers you return it, you're not gong to convince anyone satisfied with it that they are making a mistake in keeping it and enjoying it. I get it. This is yet another thread that is populated with a handful of people that want to rile people up to hunt down Tim Cook with pitchforks and torches and demand he give them a better display. Good luck with that.
Dude, you are wrong in almost everything you’ve said. Most people who have issue with it, noticed it at first use (including myself). Nobody has “pitchforks” out for Tim. That’s just ridiculous. You’re the only one that has come in here attacking people. That’s not an OK thing to do here.

Your point about 60 v 120 was heard and understood. Everything else you’ve said is garbage, with its only goal to attack. This thread would be better off without your garbage.

Those of us that have been less than satisfied with the “jelly” have said to others: If you aren’t seeing it, keep it and enjoy it!! Nobody here is telling anyone that enjoys it to return it.

And when you say that you’re out, stay out. Don’t just come back to attack again. Lamesauce, dude.

You are right that many have said if you don't see it, enjoy it. But a few also said you are in denial if you don't see it, while others seem to think the Mini is the worst piece of garbage ever released and a few even said it should be recalled, which is ridiculous. Thee are defiitely people here who have gone to extremes in the criticism.

The Mini gets 4.8 out of 5 on Best Buy and Amazon. which just shows that going to an enthusiast site is not always the best idea.

Yeah, I’ve seen a couple of those. And that’s not right, either. But in this thread, it’s almost always been: If you like it, keep it and enjoy

Hell, I see it plain as day, and did so before I saw or read anything from anyone or anywhere. And even though I see it, I’ve decided to keep it. I mostly use it to read in app (so flipping pages) and some video. I wanted to use it also for forums, but ironically, this is the worst site design with the jelly scroll (and horizontal is a pain and too much scrolling).

Point is this:

1. By now, we all know jelly scroll is a thing. It’s hardware, and there will be no software fix. Either portrait with the 6, or landscape in almost everything else.

2. By now, we all know having a 120 with PM would reduce the effect. By how much, we can’t know.

3. By now, those who’ve purchased it have made a decision to either keep or return it.

4. It is factually accurate to say that the price of the mini 6 is higher than that of its predecessors. To pay more, it’s not unreasonable to expect a quality experience. This, THIS, is the point that most are venting about.

5. By now, this is just owners and previous owners discussing the situation. There is ZERO need for anyone who is completely happy with the product to come in here and attack members.

Regarding #4, you can't really criticise the price increase. For the extra price they are charging, you get improved over the Mini 5: reduced bezels, leading to a larger screen size in the same form factor, touch ID in the button, 5G, WiFi 6, 1GB more RAM, 4K video, camera flash, A15 processor and improved speakers. In fact, the only thing they didn't improve (to my dismay) was storage options, still 64/256. I was hoping for 512GB. But still, not a bad set of improvements in one generation. Probably more than in any next generation of any other product.

Fair point. Yes, there are better “stats”. For my use, it doesn’t do much, but the better tech does cost. It’s just a shame that they decided to change up the display controllers differently. The 6 is perfect for portrait. I mean, even the camera is placed for portrait.

But like I said before, I decided to keep it as it works well for what I want it for.

Annoying? Yes. But not nearly as much as not being able to read medicine bottles without using my phone camera and zooming in. I still use my MB Air for most web browsing so I can live with it as the size is perfect for my needs.

What a ridiculous reply.

I went to the store yesterday to check out the mini 6 and possibly buy one. I have read many good opinions here, as well as bad ones.
I was immediately and extremely bothered by the jelly scrolling in portrait mode, I couldn't stand it. On the other hand, my 14-yo son in law was not bothered at all, and could not see it until I pointed out what to look for. Even then he said that is perfectly fine with him. My wife couldn't see it at all.
So there is the proof that some can not stand the jelly scrolling, others are fine with it, and some do not see it all.
I purchased an iPad Pro 11" 128GB with cellular.

I’ve got used to mine now. No longer a huge issue for me.

Very sadly, just had to return mine. Really amazing piece of kit otherwise, as other Mini’s, for me was perfect for that gap between laptop and phone use cases. I got the 256gb cellular one, was not cheap so was looking forward to use it for many years. Don’t think I should put up with it. Yes, absolutely totally etc 1st world problem, but for £759 this is simply not acceptable. The fact that it feels very much like an avoidable situation and the kind of detail that Apple always nails, also adds insult to injury.

For £999 (£240 more) the iPad Pro 11" 256GB Cellular is a no brainer. The added features make it a worthwhile.

Tried two in a local store today. One was distinctly worse than the other.

This being said, even the worst one didnt seem horrible. I am not a fan, but i could probably live with it. I probably wont buy one, maybe when they have gotten cheap, i'm very satisfied with my lenovo tablet.

The spec sheet it’s not even a contest, I agree. But try to hold the 11" Pro with one hand on public transport, or type more than a couple of sentences while holding it. It's not about the specs, it's about having the optimal size and weight for what it's supposed to do. IMHO, the Mini it's the best all-round digital notepad, e-reader, portable web browser, music and video player. It's sad to see it botched.

It wasn't botched for me. A 4.8 out of 5 on places like Best Buy and 4 1/2 stars on Amazon show that it's more enthusiast website complaining than a real problem.

Sadly had to wipe my Mini 6 today and planning to return it tomorrow. I am so sorely disappointed, when I first read about this issue I just handwaved it away like many of you thinking this was overblown or overdramatized and fully expected to love my mini. Well...I did, but the issues with the screen are not simply overblown.

The device's form factor is perfect for my needs, I would have happily replaced my 11" pro with it (in fact, I was gearing up to sell the pro) however the jelly scroll issue on my mini was so noticeable and bothersome that it gave me some significant eyestrain/headaches while using it. I am not really someone that gets motion sickness at all, so this was really surprising to me. I suspect it has to do with the narrowness of the device when used in portrait mode. Either way, its a shortcoming I could not make peace with no matter how hard I tried. And before anybody replies to me saying that my 11" pro jelly scrolls too, i am unable to replicate this effect no matter how hard I try whereas with the mini 6 I instantly noticed it the moment I set up the device. The effect is especially egregious when scrolling through photos or a video app with tiles, it looks like the entire screen has been dipped in molasses.

I have tried looking really hard for jelly scroll on my 12 pro max, my macbook pro, and my 11" ipad. I just cannot see it. So I dont even think its an issue of me just being overly sensitive to it or something, the display quality in the mini 6 is just unbecoming of the $700 I paid for it.

Again, I am not bashing the device. Its fantastic, the perfect size, the prefect hardware design, and I genuinely am upset that I cannot keep it. I can only hope that they secretly move the display controller in a few months or something.

That's what I suspect also. My old iPad also has the same problem in portrait, but it's barely visible and practically non-existent when you scroll slowly. No matter how slowly I did it with the Mini 6 there was still a visible tilting. And as I usually scroll and skim pretty fast it would have become a non-stop thing to behold.

It’s definitely the case that some are worse than others. My $0.02, I played the return lottery four times to get one that has less-than-obvious jelly scroll. Don’t really need the jelly since I’m trying to lose weight. (Ba dum cha.) After 10 days of heavy use, I don’t see it unless I’m focusing on it.

Hope that helps!

That’s interesting to hear. I kept the 6, 5 is currently on eBay and there’s no way I would have kept it for full price (net). Maybe I will have to go somewhere to see if I can see for myself that different ones are better or worse. Since it does seem that individual perception may play a role as well as the design. Got mine from Amazon snd still within exchange window.

I spent a good 20-30 minutes looking at it to make sure i wasnt imagining it.

The salesman was nice enough to move the mini since they wouldnt reach side by side becuse of the alarm wire attached. But once i got them side by side, there was definitely a difference.

Now i'm probably one of those people who are less impacted by this. Because the severity seems to be highly subjective. Its possible i wouldnt even notice it on alla devices. But comparing these two i held side by side, i absolutely noticed a difference.

I was unable to verify this with build dates, so i have really no way of knowing which were manufactured first. But the salesman told me the better one was the device they received first. The second display unit came in a later shipment, and that one appears to be impacted more by jelly scroll. He seemed to be familiar with the issue, but did his best to downplay it like any good salesman lol.

I doubt it's different. It can take a month or so to apply an engineering fix to the line and get them to stores. At least. Maybe in 3 or 4 months, there will be "better" models. But not not yet, unless it's different screen manufacturers.

When I visited each apple store they had four different colored models of iPad mini 6 available to look at. Every one of them looked the same brightness, and compared a few web pages to see if jelly motion was highly visible after the weekends rush to pick up pre-orders. It wasn't to me. I bought one a week later its was the same quality.
Being that these have only been out out 32 days, pretty much everything is from the same source for your location.
Here in the states they are made in China.

Much appreciated. This is the kind of detail that gives credibility. I once sold my used Brompton bike on Craigslist for $900 cash and the buyer didn’t even pick it up himself, sent a friend. I later asked him how he could have so much trust? He said “I knew from the extensive detail you had in the listing it would be a quality purchase.”

Not to discount the subsequent responses, it does seem possible there could be individual variances. Ie manufacturing tolerances. Especially given Apple claims it is normal, which is of course bs misdirection with a true fact. They have to say that unless they want to take a massive loss. I know a Best Buy a few blocks from an Apple Store, will have to go on a field trip.
