I'd hate for you to miss out, but when I'm in that situation, I've had really good luck checking the website on Saturday morning for in-store pickup locations near me. I most recently did it for the iPhone 12 Pro the morning after it released and got just what I wanted about 40 minutes from my house.I was too busy at work to place my order ASAP and my desired configuration (5G Space Gray 256GB) was already delayed by the time I got home.
Now I'm trying to decide if I should just get the Pink version or if I should try my luck at in-store pickup for day of release. Bezels are all black nowadays anyway and that's the most important thing to me.

They’re essentially the same price. If you order the cellular and activate a t-mobile $30 plan, you get a $200 debit card in 6-8 weeks. That should net about $140-170, when the difference between the wifi and cell models is $150.I found the cellular hard to justify. I’d rather spend the extra for storage than cellular.

I ordered a iPad Mini purple 256 cellular a few minutes after the store came back yesterday for 9/24 delivery.

From Wikipedia:
"...purple is the color most often associated with rarity, royalty, magic, mystery and piety. When combined with pink, it is associated with eroticism, femininity, and seduction."

Is there a reason people don’t like to tether - if you carry your phone everywhere is there a technical reason to NOT rely on tethering? Does speed of the internet take a hit?
I only once ever had a cellular iPad and just was a pain to keep paying for a second data line when I have 200gb a month of data.
It's def slower if you tether and it kills your battery. TMobile also has unlimited streaming of certain services which would not apply if tethered (I think). Also, if you lose the iPad, it can't be tracked in FindMy.
There are also so many affordable plans on pre-paid or post-paid. I usually sign up for the TMO $10/5GB/150 day prepaid plan and it's perfect for me. But everyone has different needs and experiences so if a cellular version doesn't appeal to you, it's ok!

Just ordered the starlight but it looks too beige for me, so went for the pink,
Also just listed my iPad air 4 in the marketplace. Here’s what it said when I googled it.
Starlight is the most neutral color and replaces the previous silver style. Compared to silver, starlight almost appears to be slightly tan.
When do you guys think ipad Air 5 will be announced?
Does speed of the internet take a hit?
Yes and no. Both devices are wifi 6 so established rate is 1200mbps.
The only time I ever need cellular service for my iPads is on the ferry between Victoria, BC and Vancouver, BC, Canada. I just tether from my iPhone for the 1.5 hour ferry and it works great. Don't notice a drop in battery life on the iPad, only on the iPhone which I can just charge in my car once I start driving on either side.Is there a reason people don’t like to tether - if you carry your phone everywhere is there a technical reason to NOT rely on tethering? That's the problem. The mini is now the most up to date but I like the form factor of the Air. Probably going to wait until end of the year to see if they do any updates to it silently or next event.Later, or MUCH later. They could do a silent release over the store, or wait until the upcoming release show, or wait until next year. It seems odd that it's rather stale, but I wonder if they might be transitioning off of the Air brand. They have the iPad Pro, the iPad mini, and the newly updated iPad. That the Air didn't get any love could be a sign it's short for the world. Although it already has the A14 chip, where the new iPad has the A13. Maybe the Air doesn't need an update yet. It's already up to date?
The Mini has the A15. Ohh... Get a Mini?

Yes same here. I own a Tesla but I still mount the iPad Mini as a GPS - I use Google Maps + Offline Maps to link to starred places when going on road trips - super convenient and not an option (offline or starred locations) in the default Tesla Nav.My old GPS mini was a life saver during a trip to Europe for offline map apps.. Didn't need cell service but the GPS tracked everywhere we went. Even walking directions were exact and pin-pointed. Easy to carry yet bigger than an iPhone to view. That and I'm going to use it in my car as a nav system because I hate my car's navigation. The GPS it totally worth the extra cost in my use case.
