I actually sold my Nexus 7 and kept the iPad mini. The screen on the Nexus was nice but too small and I really disliked the 16:9.

Android also has very few apps optimised for tablets compared to iOS and the battery didn't last nearly as long.

I actually prefer the nexus size, find it so much easier to hold and carry around, and the clarity of the screen is marvellous!

For a cheap, disposal, all around tablet you can actually throw in your back pocket, and hold easy while on the bowl, it works. iPad killer? Not even close, but it doesn't have to be to be a good buy.

Agree - hit the nail on the coffin there matey! I do not think the nexus 7 is a ipad killer, however, for me, it is far more functional and customisable than the ipad mini, with a gorgeous display, snappy and responsive os - i actually do not miss ios on my iPad. I still do not think i could switch to a note as a total dissolution of ios, but the combination of nexus 7 and iphone 5s serves my need very well indeed, even more so that i finally got my cal, contacts and emails sync'd!

I sold my mini when I got my Nexus 7. I'll likely give the Nexus 7 away as a present at Christmas and will pick up a retina Mini. I much prefer tablet experience of iOS but the screen is much better on the nexus 7 than the current mini.
Agree, the app market for the tablets on androis remain quite immature and poorly developed, but i think given time, they have great potential. For my needs, the nexus 7 FHD is fantastic and watching movies on the nexus is truly breathtaking, especially true(ish) 1080p rips

I would buy the iPad mini without doubt if:

- There was an accessible file manager.

- I could download videos from the web easily. On Android I can download the latest episodes of my favorite tv shows via torrents, download YouTube videos easily to watch offline, etc. And I can watch all those videos with any app because they are all accessible to every app. In iOS I would have to open the third party YouTube app I used to download YouTube videos to watch them every time, because they aren't available on other apps like VLC. Then I would have to open a different video app where I have other videos. Annoying. Plus MxPlayer has this awesome feature where I can rewind or go forward in any video with gestures.

- True multitasking. If I'm downloading a tv episode torrent on Android I can leave the app and turn off the screen while waiting the download completes. On my iPad 1 with iOS 5 that was not possible. If I left the app any download would stop.

- I had full access to dropbox or any cloud storage. On iOS through the official dropbox app I can only upload pictures and videos. On Android I can upload everything. Same goes for my Synology NAS app. On iOS I could only upload pictures and videos to my NAS through that app. The same app on Android allows me to upload any file. This is great for me because I upload .srt subtitles files to my NAS from my Android tablet when watching a movie in another language.

- Play my old games through emulators. My favorite games are those old ones from Game Gear, Game Boy, etc.

- Easier file transfers to my device from the iMac. On Android it's like copy and paste with the Android File Manager program.

- Swype keyboard. So great.

- The share button on Android. So easy to send anything to Pocket for example from everywhere. Or when I send a YouTube video from the official app to the Tubemate app for download.

- Downloading anything from the web. Safari doesn't allow downloads. There are third party browsers that do, but the downloads stay inside those apps. On Android I can download anything from any browser and they go to the accessible file manager. From there I can move them to wherever I want.

I would say those are my primarily needs, but there is much more also: customizations, widgets in lockscreen, actionable notifications, multiple users on tablets (when Apple, when?), better stock apps (gallery allows me to sort my pictures by folders they way I want), awesome screen buttons, awesome BACK button, offline voice dictation, cool apps only available on Android thanks to its openness (screen off, launchers, emulators, torrents apps, lock any app with a password, etc), etc.

As you can see Android offers so much more features and possibilities it's really hard to go back to the iPad. It's main benefits are the 4:3 screen and super long battery life. But as a media consumption device for videos is the worst, just like I pointed out on my first point before.

I am late to this thread. I have owned both nexus 7, and I pad mini.

I hate my nexus 7 it is embarrassing how bad the screen response is, and how Un ergonomic it is.

I will be pre ordering the retina mini day 1. Apple still rules the tablet Imo.

And whose fault is that? ;)

Interesting thread.

Try to imagine if the roles were reversed. Imagine if Apple was putting out a retina iPad Mini with a modern processor (even kept the same price) and Google/ASUS was putting out years-old processors and didn't have a higher resolution display...

Can you imagine how different some of these posts would be? I wonder. :D

But kudos to those sticking with the Mini (I mean it). Even I am not convinced the Android-tablet experience is quite there yet. Android on the tablet just doesn't feel as buttoned up as Android on a smartphone.
Your like a broken record. You must of used this example like 10 times already. What I don't get is why people hang around an apple forum when they clearly don't like it. Even if it's on the alternative section.go to android based forum. Makes sense to me.
