iPad to replace iPhone

So I have not ordered an iPad, just like I wasn't getting the original iPhone when it came out, but then of course I went to the store 2 weeks after launch, played with one and had to have it, and upgraded to 3G a year later. Now that my iPhone 3G is almost 2 years old and getting slow I find myself getting frustrated with it.

I don't particularly want to be an early adopter on the iPad and have a better model come out next year, but not sure I want to wait that long, and I can't justify the 3G model and the data cost on top of my iPhone data cost. So one thought that occurred to me was to get an iPad with 3G and either data plan, and replace my iPhone with a free junk phone. That gets me out of my data plan for my iPhone and I get an iPad with anywhere access.

The only thing I don't like is that I use my iPhone/Mac/Mobile integration of Mail, Contacts, Google Maps, etc. so much that going to a non-sync phone, really more for contacts than anything else is a difficult idea.

Anyone else considering ditching the iPhone but getting an iPad instead?

i ditched the iphone and got the nexus one, and i'll be getting the iPad.

I don't want another smartphone to replace my iPhone and I don't want a new contract in its place and I most definitely don't want a new phone DATA plan.

ok. so? You asked if anyone else ditched their iPhone for an iPad, and I answered. I'm not sure what you are trying to do here.

I respect that you did that, I am also trying to get out of more costs. An iPad 3G while costly, means $15-$30 a month in data when I want it. My iPhone is $30 a month no matter what.

Anyone know off hand about jailbreaking iPhones. Say I want to keep mine but ditch the data plan, is their a way to jailbreak it and then use it with either AT&T or another carrier without the data plan or data access. So long as I can sync my iPhone I wouldn't necessarily need anywhere access to all the 3G stuff like sports scores, etc.

I bought an unlocked iPhone 3G in Europe and was initially using it here in the US on a T-mobile network. That way I could choose different combination of service options. I ended up going to at&t because of 3G (T-mobile was using EDGE, which was quite a bit slower). Now that I'll be getting an iPad 3G, I may switch back to T-mobile.

I thinking of ditching the iPhone, get a iPad with 3G, and get a cheap telephone plan about $20 a month with limited minutes. I don't know when the last time I used my cellphone to actually talk to anyone.
