My 10.5 Pro works fine and is speedy including with iPadOS 14 Public Beta, but the 64 GB storage mine has can be limiting (even after offloading data to iCloud), and the lack of cellular on the road is a bit annoying. I also considered getting the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard trackpad accessory but it turns out it has serious reliability/design issues according to many owners here on MacRumors. Also, I already have the Apple Smart Keyboard and many apps aren’t trackpad optimized yet anyway. I also already have the Pencil and Magic Mouse 2.

I will buy the next 11” (?) Pro with Magic Keyboard, as I want mini-LED, 5G cellular, and 128 GB. USB (including a second USB port for charging on the keyboard), Face ID, and 6 GB RAM will be nice too. The other possibility is getting an iPad Air 4 but that is less likely as I doubt it will have the quad speaker setup.

I will likely keep both, leaving the 10.5 at work on WiFi, and using the new 11” Pro with 128 GB and 5G everywhere else.

AFAIK you can’t offload data to iCloud. Your entire iCloud Drive resides offline on your device as well.

I’m quite content with my 10.5, but I’m looking to update to the 2020 11 inch if I can get a decent prize for my old one.

This isn't quite accurate. I have multiple devices in use and whatever I save on iCloud Drive on device 1 doesn't get automatically saved offline on device 2 and vice versa.

Alas, you can't really control what content you want offloaded from the device.

I have a launch-day iPad Pro 10.5”. For a while I was aggressively in updating my iPads (Air 2 to 9.7” Pro to 10.5” Pro), but I found the 10.5” to be more than sufficient and passed on the 2018 update. Now I really want an upgrade as I want LTE, more storage, and the magic keyboard, but the 2020 iteration was a disappointment and I won’t pay $2K for a complete iPad Pro package to get the 2018 Pro with an extra GPU core and a LiDar sensor.

I’ll get the next iteration of the 11”

I traded my 10.5-inch iPad Pro for a 12.9-inch 2020 version with Magic Keyboard. It's a great laptop replacement and is probably a lot better than a MacBook Air.

But there was really nothing wrong with my 10.5 inch Pro (the battery was fine) and there are times when I would prefer a smaller, lighter device, such as reading in bed or on the couch.

So I suspect I'll be looking at adding an 11-inch Pro - or perhaps the next iPad Air when it's finally released.

I’d love to hear how all you iPad Pro 10.5” users are feeling about your iPad. Is it still serving you well? When do you plan to upgrade next/what will get you to upgrade?

I had a 2nd gen 12.9" Pro that had the insensitive screen issue and eventually died. So I ordered the new 2020 12.9" Pro, but after using it a couple of weeks and fearing it would do the same since it's the same structure, I sent it back and got the 10.5" Pro refurbished off Apple.com. That way I don't need to worry about it, have a lot of RAM for Safari tabs and general speed, and 120Hz display. I'm content to sit with this until Apple gets the Pros better constructed (maybe in the Fall?).

The touch issues actually started with the 2nd Gen iPad Pro. Both 10.5 and 12.9. The issues aren’t as common on 3rd and 4th Gen Pros.

Not interested to upgrade in near future.
I love my 10.5" Pro 64GB, got it brand new (sealed) for 400$ and its running fantastic. Well, leaving one issue aside (heat), but it got replaced for free 2 months ago, I don't mind, basically meant new battery as well. Drawing on it is a bliss, also basic stuff like surfing, watching movies and reading books, because it offers the perfect balance of portability, power and screen size. The White Spot issue doesn't concern me that much. You barely notice it, especially when using dark mode, which I do.

I hate the newer Pro models. The 10.5" is like the 2015 MBP for me (which I also own), a workhorse in a well-proven design. The newer models just had to be made even thinner for Ive's stupid sake, without any benefit for the user, but disadvantages like bendgate, sharp edges, omitting headphone jack and OIS... no thank you. Also Touch ID > Face ID, for tablets.

It performs great and gold is good looking. I don’t really use it for anything pro enough to find some kind of performance issue so I’m in no rush to upgrade.

I hope my next iPad Pro will be a tiny ARM MacBook running the big OS instead.

I couldn’t agree more - I got rid of the 2020 12.9” Pro in favor of a 10.5” Pro refurb for exactly the reasons you stated.

My iPad Pro is 3 years old now so I was thinking about getting a new one. However for what I do I don’t want to pay for the 2020 model. I just use it for browsing, games, watching videos etc. The budget iPad would serve my needs in terms of processing power however it would be a downgrade in screen quality, speakers and Ram. Also it has the same chip as my iPad Pro 10.5 so it wouldn’t be un upgrade.

Next I thought about the iPad Air. Has the A12 processor so will be more powerful and last longer than my current iPad but again it lacks pro motion, less Ram and only 2 speakers.

So my compromise was the 2018 iPad Pro 11 inches. Slightly bigger screen. Faster processor. New design and Face ID. Didn’t have to pay a ridiculous price for something that I won’t use to it’s full potential.

I got my 10.5 IPP on launch date back in June of 2017 and it still is working great and serves my needs just fine. The display does have the infamous white dot but it doesn't bother me anymore. I will keep using it for probably another year but may decide to upgrade, depending on what Apple releases in the coming months.

I upgraded a few months back just before the lockdowns. I still have my 10.5 LTE since I haven't had any serious offers for it. $280 cash? Uh, nope.

Back on topic it still works great and have never had any issues with it.

Yep people want to pay silly money for it. Someone offered me £180. I’d rather keep
It around as a spare.

Battery life has been terrible. Very disappointed with the battery, and it ruins the experience. I also managed to bust the lightening port and have to charge via the smart connector or whatever you call the three dots where the keyboards normally connect. I’ll eventually pay to get that fixed so I can top off with external powebanks or AC.

Outside of that, it’s great. Love the screen and sound. I bought it over regular iPads because of the screen alone. It’s just a consumption device for me.

I prefer Touch ID so I don’t see replacing it until I have to. The new pro form factors Is nicer looking, but I don’t really care as the old bezels don’t really bother me. The screen quality makes up for it all. But the battery issues really piss me off when traveling and I reach to use and see my battery life drop by the minute. Will go cellular next time.

How do you charge it via the smart connector?

There were some accessories announced from third parties (I think Logitech) that acted as a dock of sorts. The iPad can receive power from the Smart Connector, but I think it's painfully slow. It's not really designed to charge the device.

Logitech Dock. About $40-50 on ebay. Slower charging than lightening, but not that bad. I can sit on the deck with the iPad on the dock comfortably while the Logitech dock plugged into a decent power bank, and Split YouTube and safari on the screen with the battery only depleting very slowly. It’s an ok solution because it doesn’t interfere with how I like the use the iPad. (Tabletop use on patio, or next to my work computer mainly )

I also want to point out that the battery was this bad before the lightening port died. (Port died from dropping it on the cord while falling asleep reading in bed).🥴

The battery on mine isn’t that great anymore and whilst the charging port still works it’s on the way out. My husband gave it to my kids a few months ago when I was at work. It will still charge but sometimes I have to wiggle the charger around in there to start charging. I suspect that the port will fail soon. I’m sure Apple will charge an out of warranty replacement fee to fix it. I’ve been quoted £10 or £70 from a third party repairer but I’m not keen to let a third party do the repair. With the age of the device and the cost to fix the port when it eventually stops working I decided to just upgrade.

Apple doesn't replace batteries on iPads. If you pay for battery service, you get a new/refurb iPad.

I’ve had mine for only about 19-20 months and probably won't upgrade until next year. My battery is at 97% capacity and it does everything I need it to do.

I was considering a 3rd party alternative, I found a place that charged $75 for parts and labor, but Apple quoted $99 for a refurb swap on a battery replacement. Obviously COVID happened so it was‘nt a top priority.
Fast forward to last week, my children’s school has decide on a hybrid learning curriculum, 2 days a week in school, 3 days at home. My oldest son (13) had my old iPad Air 2 for almost 4 years now, he unfortunately has a cracked screen, and it s not really very useful because of that.

By a sheer coincidence, I was on Facebook marketplace selling some items and came across a seller who was selling a 11” Pro 64gb WiFi and cellular iPad, stated he only wanted $550 which was his payoff through his carrier. Long story short, I transferred the iPad payments and the cellular service to my account and to my surprise there are only 10 payments of $35 a month left! So now I have this awesome 11” Pro, I’m giving my 10.5” Pro to my mother to replace her 9.7” Pro and my son gets the 9.7” Pro.

Love my 10.5, still fast, no issues, will be 3 years old in November, battery still great.

it’s a good size And weight for mobility or home use, whereas I only use my 12.9 at home, and mostly only use the Mini 5 when out. I won’t replace it when it dies, 2 iPads is really enough for me and I’ve decided 12.9 and Mini is the perfect combo for me.

It still works fine, albeit the slowness is showing. I’m fairly efficient with it using a combination of gestures and keyboard shortcuts, and sometimes the hardware isn’t quite able to keep up. It’s my primary computer when traveling, and right now I’m holding out for a 2021 11” iPad with 5G capability and mini-LEDs to keep pretty well future-proofed for a few more years.

Love the idea of the magic keyboard, but primary goal when traveling international is to pack as light as possible, so might stick with the normal non-magic keyboard.
