So what’s the answer. Do I need to cancel my 512 for the tb or not?
If having 6GB of RAM is important to you, then the answer is "yes". If it doesn't matter, then "no"... though I would suggest that if you absolutely don't need the 512GB, to cancel the order and drop down and order the 256GB as I believe that (256GB) is a better value than the 512GB.

Has it even been confirmed how much ram the 512 has? I only see confirmation for the 64 and terabyte versions....

So Federico Vittici created a contrived test (Shortcut) that ended up using more than 4GB RAM and he was able to crash a non 6GB model. Still seems like something that might affect a small number users who if they’re really counting on this iPad to be their main computer then they should get the 1TB model. I’m not swapping mine. Too expensive and I’ll bet in a couple years other models will have more RAM.

The 1TB comes with 6GB if that makes ya feel better

Not everyone can’t afford to get a 1TB model

Rather just upgrade to a new model next year.

The iPad Pro 3rd gen with 4 gb ram should be good enough for most users for a good year or 2.

What is the use of having an iPad with 1TB storage. Doubt anyone will ever use up more than 512gb in the first place.

IPads run apps and should not be compared to notebooks and desktops.

Exactly this. A small number of users. I’m not sure that 4GB, even for content creators, is going to be that stifling in between now and the next iPP update in 18 - 24 months.

I’ll be disappointed if it does turn out that the Photoshop Demo with the 3GB PSD was the 6GB pro as that’s very misleading doing that and then not even marketing that there are different RAM levels in the smaller devices (they don’t list RAM at all in the Tech Specs on the website).

That said I do a lot of photography editing and my old 12.9 Pro was perfectly fine with Affinity Photo and Lightroom so I don’t see why this iPad should be any different, not sure I’d really spend the extra £400 for the extra memory and storage but would be nice to know before you buy what’s actually inside!

So he ran the same test on both the 6GB model and the 4GB model and he saw the 6GB - not crashing but the 4GB model crashing every time?

Just imagine that next year Apple releases a new iPad Pro with 6 GB of ram for all storage sizes. That will be upsetting.

I say get what you want know and if you will upgrade to the next model, make the change then. After all photoshop app will release next year.

Why blow up money unnecessarily?

Also check out this video.

I can guarantee you that it was a 1TB / 6G RAM model they used.

But keep in mind the file they were demoing...

150 layers, 9ft x 9ft, at least 300dpi (if not 600dpi), and a file size of over 3 gigs. Are you going to be doing anything that requires THAT kind of layer management? (My guess is "no") I've said this before: if you're working on a file like THAT, you're probably not working on it on the iPad.

I've also said this is a few threads now: Apple has 39 iPad Pro models between the 1st and 3rd gen versions released.

Six of the models have 2 gigs of RAM, the majority of iPP's (Twenty Six models!) run on 4 gigs of RAM, and Only FOUR run on 6 gigs of RAM.

You could say that Adobe is going to make Photoshop run on 6 gigs of RAM, but the majority of the user base will not have that. I would venture to say, based on price, that there's fewer 1TB models floating around than any previous models.

But the truth points to this: 4 gigs of RAM will suit you just fine for the next couple years. And, like always, Apple will release a version of the iPad that has better specs than the 2018 models, and we'll all be freaking out because the 1TB models will have 8 gigs of RAM while the rest have 6!

App creators will not ice out 35 versions of the iPad Pro just to make their programs run on 4 models.

Ram prices are dropping and even storage prices, every company will drop 64gb storage option next year, plus more ram options will be available.

Well said.

We will pay less for 1TB with more Ram next year than today. We won’t be needing now anyway. God knows if we will even need it next year.

Having the best of best is only for self satisfaction but at a cost of emptying ones bank account? Lol.

I think what MCube is saying is: you're gonna buy a new iPad Pro anyway in the next 2 years, so why spend the extra for something now that will be standard in a couple years.

Thanks. You get my point.

Rams and storage will be cheaper and soon bigger storage capacity and more ram will be common.
Now you will only pay extra for telling people, ‘oh my iPad Pro has 6gb ram and 1 TB storage’.

When you actually see your usage, you are hardly even using 256gb storage. The extra ram is useless unless you are a professional artist or a programmer who really does some big work with the iPad Pro. Just wondering why not use an iMac Pro instead?

The resale value of more expensive models from this year don’t fetch as much one would think when we upgrade to a newer model. It is a total waste.

Money at bank is Gold. Save your money. Times are changing. Don’t built up your credit card bills unnecessarily.

I update tablets every 3-4 years depending on performance drop off. These things aren't phones, we're supposed to replace our computers with them so ship them with some future-proofed RAM. The basic iPad should have 3GB minimum and these Pros should have 6GB IMO.

IPad Pro 6gb ram only got released this year for 1 model only.

I am pretty sure if iPad Pro should have 6gb ram, then pretty much all models next year will have 6gb ram.

If I had not upgraded from iPad Pro 12.9 (1st Gen) 128gb, this year,I would have been fine too. Lol.

I believe Apple’s marketing team have played a smart move.

By only have the 1TB model with 6gb ram, they have built curiosity on people’s mind why the 1tb model has 6gb ram and hence making people buy the US $1940 device.

I wouldn’t hold my breath.

My 2015 gen 1 iPad 12.9” has 4 GB RAM, just like my 2018 gen 3 iPad 12.9” iPad.

Apple hasn’t increased the RAM since 2015, gen 1 (except for the current 1 TB model).
