No. It is not fair. It doesn’t start at $950, and I agree with Marzel. From the title of the review to the content, and that final statment that has no sense and it is so clear he does not like Apple too much. He highlighs the worse parts. Its funny to read the The Verge’s titles about Apple products. Always with some implicit criticism.

Depends on your state. After tax, the lowest cost is $878 for me on the base model with no accessories. Tack on the pencil and Its already over 1k; add keyboard its 1.2k. Pretty pricey for the base model tablet with standard accessories. They could have at least included the pencil for free at these prices... but I know how supply and demand works, bottom line is always first.

It’s not the base model, though. The base model iPad is $329 right now.

I get that everyone wants the Pros but a lot of comments treat them like they’re the only Apple devices out there. It’s like the “still not a laptop” comments. There are 3 different MacBooks to be laptops if you want a laptop.

Well considering we are talking about the pro's thats what my quote referred to; the "base model pro" if semantics matter that much to you :p

I am, but primarily because I want to go back to 12.9". I had an original 12.9" and I loved the screen size, but the tablet itself was just massive with the top and bottom bezels, so I went down in size. The 10.5" is nice but just feels too limiting when using apps side by side.

I actually found the Verge video and written review to be very fair. I am definitely glad I chose the 10.5 (good sale) last year in spite of figuring that they would release a X like iPad this year. That is alot of money for an iPad. Yes, I will agree that on more than one occasion, in fact most occasions, the iPad allows me not to have to lug a laptop with me when I travel to conferences or classes to take notes or personal places where I need to just do e-mails or quick edit some photos. For my personal use, an iPad could very handily take the place of a laptop until I had to code something or if I actually want to use a desktop browser.

However, it just isn't the same as having a laptop. It has allowed me when I last upgraded my personal Mac in 2015 to get the 5K iMac and go desktop with a glorious 5K screen because most travel I do is personal and the iPad works great for that. Even then, there are times when it is annoying that I can't pair a pointing device to it or other little annoyances with how files are handled. As far is the iPad Pro has come, I still find it in the same place Steve Jobs introduced it, in between a phone and laptop.

EXACTLY! well maybe just a few (Outlook, Drive, Slack, Fidelity, etc) - but still, I agree with your statement. And iOS 12 is so limited on such a powerful device. A waste of money unless you're an artist or something.
Even if you are an artist, it's still not worth the money compared to the 2017 model because the drawing experience is the same.

95% of the computing I do at home is do-able on my iPhone XR.

I need another device to do the 5% of stuff that I can’t do on my phone. These things may not be required frequently (e.g. use a flash drive? If I must...), but it’s nice that my “other” device can do those things if required.

I liked Nilay’s review. Other than his constant mention of the price (of the maxed out iPP), it was spot on.

For email , web browsing , reading books , newspapers and iPhoto use I find the iPad perfect

Spreadsheets and maybe writing long documents I go to my iMac 27 5k , everything else the iPad more than suffices - and that's on an old Air 2 , g-d knows what the ipp 12.9/1tb I ordered will be like !! :):apple:;)

Peak Apple tech reporting: complaining that iPad isn’t a great podcasting machine. OK what percentage of iPad buyers are podcasters? Less than 1%?

Wired’s review said Surface Pro was a better laptop. Wow, a laptop is better at being a laptop. Who knew? Go to iPad section of Apple’s website and iPad Pro is rarely shown with keyboard attached. Go to Microsoft’s website and Surface Pro is never shown with keyboard not attached. I don’t care what any Microsoft fanboys say, Surface is a laptop not a tablet.

Just tried the new iPads in store. Wow they felt dated with that huge side bezels especially on the iPad 11”. The whole thing felt like designed with the purpose of holding and charging the pencil.

The rounded design of the 10.5 is much better.

One of the reviews criticizes Apple for not supporting the Youtube codec (VP9?) that would allow 4K in apps/device, however the defunct ProTube app (for iOS) was able to display videos in 4K... that doesn't make any sense.

Note: The Youtube app for iOS can only display up to 1080p. Similar apps can't go further, too.

Is that because Google want people to invest in their premier service?

Surface Pro is not a laptop. It is a tablet. It doesn't matter what you call it. Doesn't change the fact that the Surface Pro is by definition a tablet. You can call a dog a cat, it's not going to turn into a cat just because you want to think it's a cat lol.

And before you label me (or anyone who disagrees with you) a "Microsoft fanboy", I haven't used a windows computer since 2009.

Just because you dont like the fact that another competitive device is more productive than the iPad Pro doesn't mean you change the entire category of the product on your whims lol.

Truth is Surface Pro as of now is a more productive device and a better laptop replacement and hence a better device than the iPad Pro. iPad Pro has an amazing hardware but without a proper software, it's nothing more than a waste of money. Whether you like it or not.
