Always remember, you're under NO obligation to purchase.
Oh please. This is a forum where every single one of us are Apple Fans. And you're dedication to a corporation is really going to cause you to think that "If you don't like it then don't buy it" is some sort of intelligent discussion stopper?

Apple created the concept of the Smart Cover. Apple has consistently had the best cover you can get for every iPad. The iPad Pro 9.7 is identical in design to the Air so for 4 years they've perfected the 9.7" Smart Cover. Yet in the iPad Pro they changed the design in order to sell the the same thing twice.

One reason we buy Apple products because of the experience they delivered over the last few decades. If that experience begins to sway then it would be ridiculous to NOT bring it up.

You're raising the issue for the badzillionth time is what's grating and I am anything but an Apple fan. My ecosystem experience starting sliding a long, long time ago BUT I am invested with no easy way out.

That's the problem. You won't vote with your wallet. You buy the very items you complain about.

Thought I was crazy/OCD but glad to ser I'm not the only one seeing this as a bummer. It's my first iPad but I must say the fitting of the cover isn't what I've been used to by Apple. It isn't a major issue but it sure is strange.

Wow that's actually really ugly. I'm surprised apple would make it so much bigger, but at the same time not because they want you to also buy the bottom case.

Funny how they say things like they don't want people using cases (circa iPhone 4 drama) but then make it so you can't just use a smartcover- you have to encase the entire thing.

I kept my air cover. I read that it will not wake the iPad when opened, which is a minor flaw, given that I will use the Touch ID to authenticate, but the question is if you can attach it at all to the new pro?
Mine doesn't work with the new pro. The front flap won't lay flat.

I agree. Instead of buying the overpriced case+cover, I bought a case from Amazon.

I do find it interesting, though, that people are having problems with using the iPP 9,7 with Smart Cover only. My mom got the 12.9 iPad with Smart Cover, no back case, and when I used that, I didn't notice any problems with gaps, overhangs, or covering volume buttons like people are describing with the 9.7 Smart Cover.

Could someone with the Smart Keyboard Cover confirm if this is the same? My Smart Keyboard Cover is still processing from pre-order and I may just cancel the order if the cover is the same.

Billionth time? This is the first time the lip overhang was even mentioned on the forums.

Anyway, I'll concede. Even though I want to buy the product I am discussing (on a discussion board with a clearly marked thread topic about this specific product) then I'll restrain from talking negatively about it.

BTW. If anyone is looking for an alternative cheap full case then Amazon has a Jetech one for $3 (while supplies last)

Coupon Code 75ZPBORB takes $12 off.

I can't stand this cover and it's going back. I get that it's designed to use with a case, but I have no desire to use a case and further increase the weigh. Compared to the cover on the Air 2, this is a huge step backwards.

Not only is there an overhang, but the hinge side doesn't lay flat against the iPad without a case.

If you don't like the cover take it back but why make such a big deal about it.

I pull the cover off when I use my iPad Pro but it does have the rear case. I think it's a great idea having the cover separate as it's cheaper to replace just the cover or base if they get damaged.

I'm having trouble finding alternatives. All other covers on the Internet that I can find have a back case, which I don't want.

It sucks that even though they made it worse it's still better than others out there.

Any suggestions?

The Smart Keyboard cover does not overhang as bad as the Smart Cover appears too. I actually like the fit and balance of the combo way more than the setup on the 12.9" pro.

However, typing on the thing is going to take some getting used too.

I've posted about this many times in different threads. It originally came up with the mini 4 and 12.9" pro, and it's definitely designed to work with the rear silicone cover. I tried it myself for a bit, but I really prefer using the iPad without any cases and throwing the Smart Cover on when carrying it around and sitting it on a table at different angles.

What drove me nuts with the Smart Cover on the mini 4 hanging over the edge, when carrying the iPad in my hand, the end of the Smart Cover would get pushed and 'tent' up over the screen.

I got my 9.7" Pro yesterday with both the Smart Cover and Smart Keyboard cover. Wasn't sure if I wanted to keep both or just one of them. I was worried about the keyboard cover being heavy and cumbersome, but I'm pleasantly surprised by it. Quite light and so far its been decently useable as a Smart Cover without adding much weight. And best of all when closed it sits flush with the iPad. The Smart Cover however, not only did it not sit flush but it was also very easy to move/slide around the screen. I'm going to return it and just keep the keyboard cover.

Mine is already packaged to go back. I'm not keeping this. I'll keep it in my sleeve for now and see what other products come out later on.

that looks worse than i thought, a tiny overhang I could forgive but this is just plain ugly. It looks like it's made by some cowboy third party outfit that just guessed the dimensions of the Pro. Really sloppy design and not what I expect from Apple who are normally so precise.

Except it is perfectly precise based off of the back cover. I'm not keeping mine. It's a disappointment to be honest. Oh well, there are other options out there.

That's awful.
Yes because everyone lays their iPads face down like that on a table so they can stare at the glaring 2mm overlap.....give me a break. The only time this is noticeable is when picking it up. And its a minor annoyance.

I'll agree though that the rear shell is waaaay overpriced and they should be sold as a set for $49.
