So he has absolutely edited it in post to make it look better than it is.
It is way way worse in real life than he makes it seem.

If it was as good as he makes out, I would be happy with it, and would be keeping it.
But the reality is so much worse.
We actually tried our best to make blooming happen as dramatically as possible which is why we went all out and turned off all the lights and turned up the brightness all the way. Nothing was cut out of the video to hide blooming. Yes it can be an issue but we would absolutely take the mini-led display over the previous LCD. Check out our 11" M1 vs 12.9" M1 iPad Pro video to see the difference in contrast and brightness. The new display is way better even with its slight issues.

I just got my new 12.9 inch iPad, and after playing around with it with various brightness settings and in different lighting environments, I have to say that I am shocked that anyone is making any kind of deal of this at all. You can notice it a bit with white on black text with the brightness all the way up in a very dark room - but with those settings, there is the visual appearance of “blooming” on my OLED iphone screen as well (I know someone will chime in to say that‘s not “true” blooming, and that’s fine - to my eyes, the visual effect is very similar).

Bottom line - the screen looks great and is an incredible improvement over my old iPad’s screen. I can see why some people might prefer OLED screens, there are some trade offs either way. But the brightness, color accuracy, and incredible contrast make this screen a hit for me. I certainly can’t see returning this device over this non-issue.

Try using the reddit app in dark mode, read anything in dark mode (like the kindle app), or use a trackpad to see the giant bloom that shows up on a black background with the cursor you hack fraud.

it’s extremely distracting if you try to use it to do something pro like writing or reading. Not to mention all the UI elements like the home button bar glowing like a radiation stick.

I am just not having this experience at all - I have done all of these things and the only way I get any kind of noticeable bloom is if I am in a dark room with the brightness up 100%. And with those settings, the bloom-like glow effect on my iPhone’s OLED screen is similarly noticeable. I guess maybe our eyes just perceive this differently, or maybe I’m a “hack fraud” too.

Guys, Max Tech was spot on. I have an OLED TV and it does slightly bloom too. It's because there's a glass on top of the panel, for one thing. In the case of the Mini-LED's on the iPad, which produces way higher brightness than OLED, the blooming can be a little more but not as exagerated as in the photos being circulated.

Also, our naked eyes can produce blooming when looking at a bright object up close.

Max Tech is right in suggesting to lower the brightness on the Mini-LED iPads. These new screens are really bright and therefore should be tamed accordingly. And they are indeed beautiful to watch HDR/Dolby Vision with.

100%. My LG CX has visible blooming too, because of the glass over the top. So while OLED is still better in terms of small areas of illumination in a scene over the iPad display, the nature of glass means it’s still not perfect.

You’re just lying, I have an iphone 11 pro and it absolutely does not do that on mine. There’s a giant glowing ball on screen, I’m looking at it right now

Most of these people trashing it, don’t even own one, neither have they seen it in person, they’re going off fake photos and videos on reddit, which are deliberately being taken at a over exposed state.

I also have an iPhone 11 pro, and the visual effect is similar for me when I look at a white object on a black background in a dark environment with brightness turned up (it’s also easy to produce photos of my phone that look similar to the ipad “blooming” photos we’ve seen, as I’ve done here, though that doesn’t prove much with iPad or iPhone cameras). Ultimately probably just a difference in the way we perceive things visually. Or you can just stick with calling strangers on the internet hacks and liars because they disagree with you ?

No doubt. I just took a similar photo of my iPhone screen included in another reply - these overexposed photos just don’t capture what it looks like to the eye

Even my oled tv has blooming at high brightness, white text on a black background at high brightness will all look like this, doesn’t matter what display tech it is.

Why the people complaining can open multiple threads but the one who debunked the myth cannot open a new post? This is one of the many double standards of our society.

Burn in and inaccurate colours are the exact reason why Apple didn’t choose oled. This is the iPad Pro. It’s a drawing surface, and image editing tablet, it’s for editing and creation not consumption. It’s can do that, and it does it well - but that’s not its goal. oled may have the best blacks, but the compromises to allow it are to great for anyone who relies on accuracy and/or a clean screen. To be honest it’s a no brainer for any image creation professional. The oled diehards are strong here, but don’t even realise how irrelevant they are to creating the very things they (and we) love watching on their 100” oled tellys.
Yeah, no.
Sony Production Monitors
OLED is absolutely used for color correction and mastering.
