Thank you for your nice post @MH01 :)

No unfortunately we don't have an Apple Store in NZ - I ordered it online from Apple last week as soon as it was available for purchase. I'll ring Apple and return it :(

MR can be a horrible place at times when our members abuse people who come here for advice.

Thanks for putting up with it .

Good that u got it from apple direct. Just jump on the phone with apple and explain your situation, I am sure they will be very helpful.

Fingers crossed they send you a replacement.

Four pages of this thread is silly.
Exchange it (since the OP didn't do anything to it) and it will be over. Now convincing Apple that he didn't do anything maybe another issue.

I think the OP should post the exchange information details of the transaction (as full disclosure) to prove this is not a hoax or pathetic troll post. That would be the only way he would get anyone to believe and confirm this actually happened.

Anything past this point is pure speculation or troll fodder.

come on guys, don't be that mean & stupid. ever seen one of the first macbook pro's where the battery expanded? this could well bend an ipad. same with getting hot. you don't need it to get hot enough to melt something to bend it. you just have to get one side warmer, so it expands differently than the colder side. ever heard of a bimetal?
There is no bulging. Just bending. Expanding batteries push out, not fold in on themselves.

I believe her, and so what if she doesn't have proof?... She doesn't bloody need to prove anything, she simply came asking for advice. But instead of acting like adults, many of you acted like a pack of wolves; jumping on the situation and ripping it to shreds, and then posting offensive and derogatory comments. Now I myself can have my moments of being jerk, but this is ridiculous. The whole point of this website and forum is to discuss the enjoyment of Apple products and technology we all share. If someone posts about a problem they are experiencing, be mature enough to say something productive or polite... or just keep your to yourself and go about your business.... and I thought Twitter and FB were bad.

If someone makes an effort to register, post, and share an experience in public - one that seems very unlikely - they are opening themselves up to public feedback. And maybe you can imagine because it's a seemingly unlikely story that it creates questions and doubts. Of course the thread starter does not have to reply anymore, respond with evidence, or otherwise give in to some of these requests for answers, but if 'he' wants to be taken seriously, and actually wants help.. you can imagine it's not an unrealistic thing from many of us to ask for more information and some evidence. I think we all want to focus on quality content in this community, versus wasting our time on trolls.

Looking at iFixit's teardown -- is it possible that a faulty battery expansion could exert a somewhat equal force on opposite sides to cause a bend rather than a bulge? I don't know the physics of the matter.

I don't think it can bend itself. Something happened to it. That's the problem with devices as big and thin as this: they do bend easily. Fortunately, it's still under warranty and within the full return period. But there will definitely be other bending incidents because the thing is thin.

But who knows? Maybe your unit was assembled wrong (that's why we have warranties) and there was some internal stress pulling it to the bend. Or, if you didn't check it carefully when it arrived (I never thought of that with mine) maybe it got bent in shipping and you only just now noticed it. That's entirely possible, and would be my suspicion if you are absolutely certain that it was not subject to stress after you got it.

But I thank the OP for the reminder, and I will try to be extra-careful with mine.

OP is not newly registered. Member since 2011 with reasonable posts. so trolling seems unlikely.

This thread already mentioned a bunch of possibilities:
1) external force by accident (maybe not noticing)
2) It came like this out of the box, but OP didn't notice first.
3) theory of battery expanding/bulging (probably unlikely too, but stranger things have happened, and a swelling battery could create enough force to bend casing)
4) trolling (very unlikely imo)

Let's just wait how it plays out

iPad not constructed of bi metal.

Opened herself up yes, but to be lambasted and burned at the stake?... No.

Kudos to you though... for your comment was filled with the utmost quality, also great job on the attempt to create an excuse for people to act immature and rude.

Batteries expanding will NOT cause the iPad to fold in half as seen in the picture posted by OP. They will expand, pushing everything above and below it, OUT. The glass will pop off and separate first. The bottom at most, would bow OUT. There is no physical way for an iPad to bend like that without an outside force. Just not possible. That type of bend is from being sat on, leaned against, some external force being applied. Batteries would not do it.

Yup, that's what I mean metal expands when it's hot.

For the record though, the LiIon battery in a MacBook swells as a function of the battery shorting, not because it got hot.

Best bet is to document it, work with Apple to determine the cause and hopefully get a replacement. This incident does expose a potential weak spot along the gap between the internal batteries.

I am not supporting those who act immature and just jump on this poster for the lulz, I ignore those comments.

I only had the iPad Pro for a few days, and it's already bent!! I received it last Friday (which was a nice surprise) and this morning I noticed how it had a bend in it. Anyone else with this problem?

(just wanted to add that this is from normal use at home, never put it in a bag or did anything unusual to it)

Lol how did you manage that. You really need a case on it. I can't stand holding the iPad without a case, feels like I'm gonna drop it!

You have all been too busy attacking and not looking at evidence provided. In the shot with all the devices lined up you can see that the iPad pro is already bent, perhaps it arrived like this and the op didn't even realise to begin with.

Innocent before proven guilty.
