Hi @Namara - Thanks! Yes, just confused as last indication was that it had arrived in London at Heathrow airport and now it’s not moved to the U.K. tracking and hasn’t arrived with me or updated all day? :-/
I'm in the US but in general I'm finding that tracking detail for each and every arrival/departure seems to be done less often lately, which is frustrating indeed.

Yes, definitely. Understandable with the current situation but frustrating when dealing with couriers you’re not used to usually! :-/

Yes, and it's hard not to feel like "a watched kettle never boils." With 4 deliveries in flux, somehow if I can stop checking the Fedex and UPS tracking apps for an hour, I'm almost sure they will magically update. 😉

Haha! So true!

4 deliveries?! Surely you must have something arrive soon! Ha

Hi, I’m new to the forums but wanted to post about the SwitchEasy coverbuddy. I preordered the coverbuddy iPad Pro 12.9 2020 version specifically for the magic keyboard on May 17th and received my package today on June 3rd. I read that the previous model had issues with closure when held at the spine but I’m happy to say that the new model solves this issue and the fit is quite perfect. Just a few points...

1) A glass screen protector WILL NOT work. I had to remove mine in order for the magic keyboard cover to close properly.
2) I had a Dbrand skin installed on my iPad and it surprisingly still worked with the magic keyboard and the coverbuddy installed. It did not affect the functionality of the keyboard. I ended up taking the skin off anyways just because I felt like it was an uncomfortably tight fit for the coverbuddy.
3) The cutout for the USB-C is very, very small and I can imagine that it would be difficult for anyone that would need to attach a 3rd party dongle. Not too much of an issue for me since I don’t use a dongle often but for those who do, you may have to take off the coverbuddy every time you need to connect the dongle.
4) Pass through charging still works.

That’s all! Happy to answer any questions!

Hi @LT5418 - Welcome and great mini review!

I’m just waiting on my updated 12.9” CoverBuddy to arrive (I previously had the last version which didn’t close properly) so it’s encouraging to read your review.

I had hopes they might have updated the USB-C opening for charging cables and dongles, so that’s disappointing that they haven’t and that it’s still too small. I do agree that it’ll be annoying if I need to hook up or plug anything in that isn’t an official Apple cable.

Are you finding the usability ok so far?

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I’m really enjoying the case so far and the usability is great. I’m not finding any obvious pitfalls so far other than the tiny USB-C cut out.
I know that there are some complaints about the coverbuddy being just a thin piece of cheap plastic but I think that’s one of the case’s strengths. It’s so low profile that it hardly adds much weight to the already heavy magic keyboard. The other great thing about this case is that it allows me to carry around my Apple Pencil without worrying about it falling out and losing it.

Thanks for the review. I am a bit disappointed that a screen protector would prevent full closure. Just curious, what protector did you have and how bad was the gap?

I can confirm also that my 11’’ coverbuddy that I received from Amazon last week does not completely close when holding by the spine when using a glass screen protector but had perfectly fit fine without it...I However felt like not having a screen protector is a risk, so will just have it open a bit when holding by the spine. it sits completely closed when on the table so overall it does not bother me. Overall I agree with the above review that the coverbuddy is great at keeping the pencil on and just good to have some covering on the sides and when holding the ipad without the keyboard case.

I am also using an AMFilm glass screen protector. The parent company is Techmatte and I’ve used their excellent products for years.

Update:

Just received my “updated” 12.9” CoverBuddy I’m the post (came via Royal Mail eventually!) so I’ll check it out and see how it works and fits.

Obviously @LT5418 covered it pretty well in their review but interested to see how it works for me.

Disappointed to hear that the USB-C port hasn’t improved and that it doesn’t potentially work with screen protectors but we’ll see!

It definitely mentions “works with Magic Keyboard” on the packaging now anyway!

How long it take to arrive in total?

I had a JETech glass screen protector on my iPad and it was too thick and prevented closure. The gap was at least >.5in. I ended up ordering a Paperlike knock-off film protector off amazon.

Another (very disappointed) Update:

So, as I said earlier, I received my “updated” CoverBuddy for the 2020 12.9” iPad Pro which claims to be fully compatible with the Magic Keyboard. It says all over the packaging that it is fully compatible with the Magic Keyboard.

I don’t know if @LT5418 lucked out on the one they received but mine does NOT work or play well with the Magic Keyboard installed.

I previously owned the “2020 iPad Pro Compatible” CoverBuddy and I can say bizarrely that it fits better than the one I received today!?

- Firstly, they have reduced the materials to 1mm compared to 1.5mm on the previous model and this makes the whole CoverBuddy feel very, almost too thin and flimsy now.

- Secondly, and probably due to either quality control or reduced magnets caused by the thin nature of the redesign, the magnets do NOT hold the CoverBuddy to the Magic Keyboard! When closed the Magic Keyboard very badly “pops” off the back of the CoverBuddy (particularly at the camera module side) and when even slightly nudged the CoverBuddy (and iPad Pro) crash off the Magic Keyboard so they’re clearly not strong enough.

As I said, I felt more comfortable with the original design (NOT boasting Magic Keyboard compatibility) as at least the magnets held the iPad Pro in place!

I’m doubly saddened by this, as from my posts on this thread, you can see I was highly supportive of the customer service and had high hopes for this redesigned product.

It baffles me that @LT5418 ’s CoverBuddy works and fits so well, as mine is so very far from being a perfect product and definitely does not in any way, shape or form make me feel confident that this is a finished product or that it will protect my iPad Pro.

I am going to be writing directly to SwitchEasy with the above thoughts and seeking a full refund as this is unacceptable.

I would urge anyone with a 12.9” iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard to avoid this product until it has been confirmed that there is a stable product. For me, though, I have lost all faith in the company. Sad, but true.

If anyone would like photos etc to show what I was talking about above, I’ll be happy to post some but I‘m too angry/frustrated to do so at the moment and have wasted enough time and money on this.

@The Game 161 and @ahojfelixi - Tagging you as I know you’ll be interested.

Mini Update: SwitchEasy have already replied, are processing a refund but still aren’t sure fully why I’m having issues (?!)...

There must be an issue with quality control and I must have really lucked out to get the product that I received. Reading your review makes me think that you received a completely defective product. That must be extremely frustrating considering the lengthy wait time.
I’m not having the same issues with the strength of the magnets. There is no pop off when closing the cover and I would have to forcefully knock into the iPad to get it to move off of the keyboard. As far as the flimsiness of the product... I cannot speak to that since I did not own the previous model and can not compare.

@LT5418 Thanks for replying and yes, it really seems like you lucked out. There seems to be a real issue with quality control, as there is no consistency between users whose CoverBuddys work or not? Really disappointed and just glad I’m getting a refund.

Anyone else received the new, update CoverBuddy for 12.9” iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard?

Damn that’s disappointing. Glad i didn’t get one after all.

also others have reported issues with the size of the port so they are unable to add much to the USB C port.
