Noticed today that the description on Switcheasy.com has changed to:

”2020 CoverBuddy

CoverBuddy protective case for iPad Pro 12.9" (2020) (Ship around early July)”

So, this effectively means that the 2nd version of the 12.9” is officially defective I would say as they’re not currently shipping any version for 12.9” with Magic Keyboard?

Yes, you are right

I’ve been lurking as I have waited for my 12.9 MK cover buddy to arrive. Pretty disappointing what the people who have it are saying.

Anyone reading this thread or other outlets and finding poor impressions of this, it’s probably best not to order the product for now. If you’re that concerned, I would recommend buying a normal cover and switching between both the MKB and another protective case. Obviously not the best solution but better than nothing.

I received my 12.9” coverbuddy MKB. It’s as bad as others have posted. The magnet isn’t able to hold through the plastic, making the iPad much more likely to detach from the keyboard. I would say the magnet strength is reduced by half. The plastic of the case on the edges is extremely thin and would offer little protection. The keyboard would not close when using a jetech tempered glass screen protector.

The coverbuddy wouldn’t be worth using if it came free. I emailed for a refund.

Oh well, welcome to the club, buddy! Lol
Clearly the one that you have doesn’t have magnet at all
FYI, they are producing new version and will be available in July

You’re right.
Awaiting for my full refund to be refunded

I am really disappointed with this new version. Mine arrived today. Unfortunately, as others have noted, the company has now removed ALL magnets from the previous version (that worked with the Smart keyboard) to make the case thinner and now the iPad easily falls off the Magic Keyboard when you close the case or adjust the volume, etc. Amazingly, the Magic Keyboard STILL does not fully close, so it is still not thin enough! As such, the new version serves no purpose. It costs more than the prior version and it just does not work. It fails to keep the Magic Keyboard closed and also fails to keep the iPad attached safely. I can't believe this product was released.

I hope you’ve requested a refund?

I received an email today from SwitchEasy offering a replacement in 3 weeks or a refund.
l am less than confident this product will ever work well. There just isn’t much room when the keyboard closes.

Yes - refund requested. I don’t think they will be able to solve this fully. As you noted, there isn’t much room for a case - even if it is very thin. Removing the magnets makes the problem worse, since the iPad falls off and it still isn’t thin enough. I’m thinking the only solution is a skin for the iPad.

Glad to hear it!

Yes, all I actually need/want is almost a bumper style case for the edges of the iPad Pro only (no back as it seems to cause issues) so I can use with the Magic Keyboard case.

Does such a thing exist?

I’m not sure there is ever enough room for anything to be used with the keyboard. We will see. There is little to no clearance when folded.

agreed,I am thankful that at least I can use the 11” cover buddy To protect the device a bit while using in hand, even if there is a slight tendency for the keyboard cover to open when holding by the spine since I installed a screen protector - still a definitely worth It trade off for me for a peace of mind.

Ah yes, so true.

I’d literally be happy with a rubber bumper type edging round the iPad Pro at this point? Can’t find anything close to that though...

It seems the switcheasy.com site is now showing a single version for the 12.9” iPad with the Magic Keyboard OR smart keyboard OR smart folio. https://www.switcheasy.com/prodDetails?path=iPad Pro 12.9"/2020 CoverBuddy/129. It is listing 60 magnets present. After literally buying one of these for my 12.9” 2018 iPad two different times (with none of the versions working) I think I‘ll wait to see if this one really works. The first was the one designed for the Smart Keyboard, so I knew it might have an issue with the Magic Keyboard. I verified it did not fully close. The second was the one release May 31, which was designed specifically for the 12.9” iPad for use with the Magic Keyboard. That was a total mess - no magnets were present and the iPad would fall off as the Magic Keyboard closed. Worse yet, the cover STILL did not close fully. The latest one seems to indicate that it works with everything, but I’m skeptical at this point. Amazon has now completely pulled the CoverBuddy for the 12.9” iPad for use with the Magic Keyboard. It is no longer available. Has anyone ordered this latest unit from the switcheasy website?

Question is who will be the first beta tester?

I received mine (12.9 magic keyboard only version) yesterday and I have the same issues like small cut out for USB C and because it doesn’t have magnets its super easy to pop out the iPad from the keyboard. So I told guys from switcheasy that I don’t want a refund but need a good working case and they replied (in 10 min) that in early July they will send me an improved version free of charge plus I can keep the existing case. Awesome!

Cause they promise a free new version for me I suppose I’d be a beta tester :)

i received my updated version today, magnets feel pretty sturdy and it does close fully, only thing I don’t like is the top cover doesn’t stay completely closed if you tilt back a bit towards the open position. Doesn’t stay closed on it’s own like it does without the coverbuddy.

Funny, sound like version 1 to me.

Version 1 (which I also have) wouldn’t even close the cover fully, this one does just...doesn’t stay closed if you tilt it towards the open position a bit.

Thanks for your updates.. Can u add photos of the issue or a small video Please ?
