A photo would be really helpful, as its hard to visualize what you are describing. I have one of the "new" being shipped to me right now so I'm very curious.

Thanks.

Even just tilting it to the left a tiny bit and the cover opens, it doesn’t stay closed. I do have the zagg screen protector on which they told me via email to take off, lol.

I received my 12.9 CoverBuddy yesterday and am pleasantly surprised. I didn't think it would be possible for SwitchEasy to get this right given the nature of the Magic Keyboard, but mine works perfectly. The magnets hold just fine. The case closes and stays closed (I don't have the problem that obnoxious reports). Of note, I have a tempered glass screen protector on the front and a dBrand skin on the back with no issue. I'll try to do a quick YouTube review and post it here soon.

Also eagerly waiting for this. I also have perfect combo with iPad Pro 11“ 2020 with the Magic Keyboard and CoverBuddy. But without any screen protector nor skin on the back.
I’ve been wanting to put a glass screen protector (0.3mm thick) but worrying it would cause problem when closing the iPad against the keyboard.

Coverbuddy is kinda expensive for a slim case though. Is that really the only option that works with the MK?

How can we tell which version from the packaging?

I don’t have an older box by which to compare, but my guess is that they didn’t change the packaging. I’d imagine the only way to guarantee you get the latest version is to order directly from SwitchEasy.

I’ve just received the v3 version of Coverbuddy.
It fits my 12.9 iPad Pro 2020.
There have been huge improvements as it now has the magnets in it.
it easily attached to the magic keyboard and does not slip off at all.
It also completely shuts when attached to the magic keyboard with no gap or opening when held in various positions.
The packaging has been changed and it says that the CoverBuddy fits magic keyboards and folios, it’s in fact universal fit now.
Hope this info helps others who want to purchase it.
im qualified to inform as I have the version 2 without magnets incorporated which I have consigned to a draw as its wasn’t fit for purpose.
I actually complained to CoverBuddy support about the prior version and they sent me this new one for free. So you guys who have a dude just complain and point them to this thread.

I too ordered and received the previous Coverbuddy for the 12.9 MK, which was unacceptably bad. I opted for the new Coverbuddy version when it was ready. I haven’t heard anything about mine but I’m glad to see others are starting to get it and that it works.

You won’t here anything unless you chase them up.
Emailed several times and in the end they shipped me one.
The new versions are available on their site. If they promised you a replacement you do need to chase them up to get them to dispatch you one. That was my experience anyway.
I’m also waiting for ipitaka to release there version.
They informed me in early august they should be ready...

That clear things up for me. Thanks.

My packaging only has the Smart Folio Keyboard on it, but the magnet works absolutely fine.
So mine must be version 1, there for I should avoid installing thick screen protector on my iPad.

Oh, those of you guys with the IPP 11” + magic keyboard + coverbuddy, what kind of carrying case / sleeve / bag do you use?

The combo makes me worry not all 11” case / sleeve / bag will fit into.

You want a carrying case on top of the MKB and Coverbuddy?

Yes, maybe a sleeve or a hardcover like the Thule Gauntlet. So the MK will be protected as well.

Few reported their MK being damaged on the edge parts, especially on the hinge area for putting it inside a backpack inner slot. I can imagine how. Those parts and the MK surface should avoid any friction.

Interesting to know - thanks. I’m using mine without a case for now and will see how it goes.

I emailed SwitchEasy yesterday morning about the replacement I was promised and I haven’t heard back. Has anyone else who opted for the replacement heard anything?

@CCPisFascism
I have (after pestering them with several emails) and they shipped me the new version (with magnets) that fully closes. It's as good as it can get and I'm finally happy, though the redesign does have a more exposed back to allow the case to fully close.

I had v2 as well and that was the worst -- No magnets. The branding for that said it was specific to the Magic Keyboard. The branding for v3 says it's the first "ALL" compatible case (MK, folio, etc).

Keep asking em until they respond

It doesn't look too great for its "off the keyboard" mode now though? Big exposed edge - the bottom no less - why bother?

Would like to see a picture of that more exposed back if you don’t mind.
