Question... I have several of the longer Apple USB-C cables. I’m assuming they are 2.0. All I use my cables for is charging. I live out of the cloud and don’t transfer files via the cable to/from my iPad. What there be any benefit for me to upgrade to the 3.1 cables? Thanks

I was disappointed in the cord as well. Going to have to buy a longer one on amazon.com. One of the apple employees told me we should look for a usbc 3.1 because it’s faster than the normal usbc cords out there. Apple doesn’t even sell it yet bc its ‘new’. Found a 6ft one amazon but it’s $25.

Please help which cable to look for when buying USBC, the cable which came with IPad Pro is the fastest? Also how many wattage is charging brick that came with iPad Pro. In previous models it was 12W but I didn’t find wattage in usbc wall charger of iPad Pro?

As far as I'm concerned, Apple still offers the tech that I want and it cannot be beat in terms of quality or consistency. Others might disagree and that's fine, and I don't have a problem calling out Apple when it's due, but in this case a crappy cable included in the box with one of the most advanced tablet computers ever made is a compromise I am willing to live with.
There shouldn’t be compromises at the asking price of these iPads. Especially ones that would cost next to nothing for them to correct.

Says 18W on Apple's Tech Specs for iPad Pro.

My only complain is that its a little short. I was hoping that Apple at least provide the USB-C cable with the length you usually get out of a MacBook Pro. Oh well!

Oh wow 18W is really good, my 12W even charges fast then I guess 18W would do wonders. Thanks
18W may be better than the 12W you currently have but if you truly want a quicker charge you need to purchase the new 30W charger.
I have the older 29W with a USB-C to Lightning on my current 2015 12.9” iPad Pro and it is has a massive difference in time to charge over the standard 12W. Yes, the 18W will be quicker but for me I will either continue using my 29W or purchase the new 30W.

That was my only issue with the supplied cable too. I replaced it with the £19/$19 longer one. I’ll keep the smaller one as a spare to go in my laptop bag to use with my portable chargers

Yeah I will probably buy a third party spare cable that is longer than the one supplied. Good idea though to use the short one as a spare to go in the laptop bag or backpack. :D

Doesn’t Apple sell these or do we recommend a third party purchase?

Then stick to your principles and don’t buy it, or return it. If you buy it, keep it, and just complain on the internet then you’ve done nothing but perpetuate the problem. Frankly, I am not too fussed about it; loving my new iPad.

Thanks for the info, I just charged iPad Pro 11 with 18w, it was on 50% and it went to 93% within about 30 minutes. Next time i will test how much fast it charges exactly and will post it here. Impressive so far.

Whats the difference, Iphones and Ipads have been shipping with cheap cables for years. Even the very expensive Iphone Xs ships with the same crappy BS lightning cable that will more then likely break down after a year of use.

Yes, the 30W can be found in Apples accessories for cables and chargers. The 30W will be quicker than the 18W but try the 18W first. If you believe it is fast enough for your personal needs then don't go with the additional expense of the 30W charger. If however you wish a second charger as either a spare or one for office and one for work then go purchase the 30W. :)

One could also contact Apple to provide feedback. Slightly less drastic and leaves you with a device in the meantime.

That is very good indeed for the 18W. Like the 30W the 18W supports fast charge which is what you are seeing. The 30W would still be faster but if you're happy with what you are getting from the 18W then I would save the expense of a 30W unless you required a spare.

This discussion isn’t about the longevity of lightning cables, which isn’t half as bad as you want to make it sound. The changes to the first generation iPad Pro have been outlined by the OP.

Definitely a huge difference between the Apple supplied cable and the Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable. The same 30GB download to the iPad that took 30 minutes with the supplied cable, took only 4 with the Thunderbolt cable.

Way to cheap out, Apple.
