I am sorry. Yes, I find that hard to believe. You opened the box...and saw it was bent. You immediately went down to the apple store...and they refused to return it? Yes. I do not believe you.
I think he should just go to a different Apple Store, don’t even mention the bend, keep them in the box, and just say ‘Man, I overdid it, spent too much money!’ and they’ll do the return no problem. That’s what I just did with a SS S4 watch that I was pissed about the sapphire scratching easier than the SS S0 on (although money was another factor, as much as I like SS the aluminum with a Skinomi screen protector is more of a reasonable price).

I've said it again and again, what about those who are being refused replacements? It's one thing to fall on the obvious response "just exchange it or return it". Are we simply to believe these people are dealing with Apple the wrong way or lying?

I've got a discounted 2017 ipad pro 12.9 in my basket and also a 2018 ipad pro 12.9. The discount is decent enough to make the 2017 a good purchase but I want/prefer the 2018 version. I won't comment any further on these types of threads as its wasted energy. Just gotta make my mind up I guess. Roll the dice or go the safe route.

If your ipad is bent right out of the box...yes return it. You can return an ipad for any reason. You dont even have to say why. But i do not believe people are being refused the ability to return their ipad within 14 days. If it is bent, you can return it.

Exactly. Maybe...on a rare occassion, you will get a dufus Apple employee. Just go to a different employee...or store. Trust me, they will take it back. I’ve never had a problem returning a new item to apple. Their customer service is probably the best in the biz. But as always when dealing with any staff, be nice. Niceness always pays.
[doublepost=1546104414][/doublepost]Follow Patrick Swayze’s advice in Road House. Be nice. It usually pays.

[doublepost=1546104849][/doublepost]I once walked into an Apple Store with a broken Apple keyboard from a used Apple computer. No reciept. No warranty. No box! I walked right up to an employee and nicely asked if it could be fixed. She took it from me, walked into the back and came out with a brand new keyboard. Handed it to me and said have a nice day. No charge. No nothing. I was blown away.

You need to learn how to read.

I said they refused to exchange them.

I did not say they refused to return them.

I also couldn’t give a stuff what you choose to believe, especially when you don’t even read properly.

It looks like he was 1-day past the 14-day window. He didn't want his money back, he wanted perfect iPad Pros to give to his family for Christmas. (I will let him clarify all this)

I think the point is Apple will not play nice if your iPad Pro is bent. If you look up their leaked document explaining their policy, bends are not covered by Apple Care and so cost $649 to receive a new iPad Pro. Now, if he bought Apple Care+ for both iPads ($129 per purchase), then they can be resolved by using one of two "incidents of accidental damage" if you have AppleCare+.

But they don't simply exchange it, is his point. Everyone saying, "if you come in with bent iPads, Apple will obviously take care of you, duh! They want you to have a great experience!" are not taking into account the fine print.

To be fair, they did offer a refund as I am within the return period, but I needed the ipads for Xmas presents. So by the time I got a refund processed, and could buy again I would have missed Xmas.

No. He clearly said they would return them for a refund. He wrote: “To be fair, they did offer a refund as I am within the return period, but I needed the ipads for Xmas presents. So by the time I got a refund processed, and could buy again I would have missed Xmas.”

So he CHOSE not to return them for a refund. I don’t know if Australia has a different policy, or if he just went to a store where the employees gave him a hard time(perhaps he could have tried a different employee or store) i dont know, but this is not the case i am hearing in the states. I have been hearing exchanges are being done within the 14 days without ANY issue.

This thread seems to be several people with actual issues and several people who for some reason are super invested in convincing those people they’re the problem. The latter seems like a supreme waste of time, IMO.

Yup, definitely overblown. Yours looks good to me, enjoy it. People on this site just like to jump all over stuff like this. It's a shame, used to be a good community.

11 out of 10 forum particiapants in the macrumors forums experience defects with their apple devices.

Well it depends. I was kinda on the sidelines until i started reading posts from people scared to buy one of the new pros...or people who had one and were posting pics of it asking if it was bent, when it was clearly straight. I felt as a new ipad pro owner myself, it was important to start speaking up. To counter the wave of hysteria that has seemed to grip this forum. To provide some sanity and balance, so that those on the fence, or scared from all the fearmongering could get excited about getting a new ipad pro again.

Personally, i think those trying to scare people that theres some rampant problem where all LTE ipad pros are bent and Apple is the devil are the supreme waste of time.

Those in the minority that open their ipads and truly feel their new ipad pro has a slight bend out of the box, wether others can see it or not...and it bothers them, can simply return it for a full refund if they so desire. So the problem as it were is not common, but completely easy to resolve.

Its the ones trying to convince everyone the new pros are all bent, and that Apple won’t let you return them... or that they will bend simply by looking at them that i have an issue with. This is simply not true.

Sanity is exhibited by not asking those questions in the first place, no? “Mine looks straight. Is it straight?” posted on the internet when one could simply consult a straight edge—or just enjoy their device—seems to already be hysteria. IMO people with actual issues should be able to discuss them without others telling them they’re wrong, imagining it, or that they’re creating hysteria. That’s all they’re trying to do. You can’t rescue the folks who are paranoid and convinced they need to take a straight edge to the store and check every device against it, because it might look straight but they could be wrong. They’re beyond rescue.

Thanks for the correction. I misread their next sentence:

"I also clarified that if I came in the day AFTER the return period ends, would they still accept a refund then based on the devices not being of acceptable quality, and they said NO."

So I think the takeaway is that he's not blaming Apple for being skumbags or anything. I didn't get that from his post. So I don't think he deserves attack. He kept saying, "to be fair" and so on. What I takeaway from it is that he wanted the iPads, just un-bent ones, and to you and I that should be straight forward, but it wasn't. This is how I imagine it should be:

Customer: "Hello Apple employee. I bought two iPads, and checked them, and they are both visibly bent, let me show you—see?"

Apple Employee: "Oh yes, thats unfortunate. And I see you bought that within the 14-day return window. Great. I'll be right back with new iPads."

That is how everyone "defending" this issue is portraying the situation, and this poster is giving his account of Apple NOT willing to exchange them.

I think his account matters if you're past your 14-day window. If you notice on day 20 that your iPad Pro is bent, the moral of the story is you may have to just accept the bend. And everyone saying, "Apple will take care of you" may be wrong.

(Regarding their not getting their money back, yeah that's their choice, and they're aware of it)

Absolutely, for those that actually have the issue, and there clearly are some. Nobody is telling those people they are wrong, that I can see anyway.

You can’t rescue the folks who are paranoid and convinced they need to take a straight edge to the store and check every device against it, because it might look straight but they could be wrong. They’re beyond rescue.

And that is the point many are making, these people are getting in the way of those with more than 400 microns of issues.

Yeah, i’m gonna step off this merry go round. I have a feeling this thread will go on ad infinitum. Gonna stay outta this fight, and only comment on the non bending threads from now on.

So, rule of thumb is to check the iPad for bends when purchasing and either return or replace during the first 14 days if bent. Apple will soon get the message if all purchasers do not accept any bends whatsoever and their policy of ‘acceptable bends’ will be irrelevant.

Well, it’s not that simple though. There were few reports from people who returned a bent iPad and their new iPad was also bent, even more so. If most LTE models have this issue to some extent, through how many returns should one go to get a straight one? It’s even more complicated for those who buy the most expensive model and have limited funds - the return is not really equivalent to exchange - it takes a few days for the refund to get back to your credit card. I could see that being a problem, especially during the holiday shopping season.

BTW, both of my 11-inch LTE and 12.9 LTE are slightly bent. I decided not to bother trying to find a perfect iPad - the bend is not really noticeable in everyday use. You really need to look down the edge or use a ruler to see a bend/curve. I will be returning my 11-inch, but for unrelated reason - it’s just causing too much eye strain for me, so I had to go with the bigger model instead.

Oh, and a few more data points:

- My iPad Air 1 is perfectly straight no matter how you look at it
- My iPad Mini 4 is slightly curved, but you need to look really hard
- My Surface Pro 3 is curved - it was a well known issue back then, just like with these new iPads. It didn’t get worse and didn’t affect everyday use.

My 11” LTE looks bent at the LTE line like most of the pictures, but I haven’t actually measured to see if it’s bent versus an illusion. It looks completely straight except for the angle that that the OP posted.

Ive also purchased two additional iPads and all looked the same. Every single LTE that I’ve viewed looks the same as well. I’m leaving towards keeping, but at least I have till Feb 1 to decide.

So I recently got a Pro 11 WiFi. With all the shenanigans I have examined it carefully and it’s straight as an arrow.

Out of curiosity I took a look at my Pro 10.5 and it has a slight curve. It has been looked after and in a case since purchase. Was it like this from new or has it been bent by me? I can’t say, because i didn’t check closely when I first got it. But it looks like this isn’t necessarily a new phenomenon (possibly bent out the box, or bending easily during use).

My white 17 in iMac G5 has never been bent and the screen still gorgeous. It's in its original box in my locker. So is my iMac 24 Core2Duo, my iMac 27 2013 i5, my iPad Air 2, my iPad mini 2, my iPhone 5s and my iPhone 6s which I use right now. All those Apple products were defect free when I bought them. It was then. There could be 1 out of 10 items that shipped with defects. Now it looks like it's more like 3-5. I guess the problem is there: quality control has taken a hit. As in refrigerators whose compressor dies after 7 years and cars whose too many parts are misaligned. No one company be it trillionnaire Apple escape that order not said but well understood: "cut the corners". I wouldn't put Apple in the luxury brand category yet. They have a lot of work to do in the QC department before getting there. All the little glitches and ghosts in the machine would not be tolerated at Cartier or Chanel or Rolex. I say seeing Apple as a statement is over. It's a manufacturing company like others. I've been a Fanboy too long (since my 20's) and as so I can say than the 2019 Apple deserves respect and admiration but surely not devotion like before. My 10 cents.

So it seems that the lte models have bigger chances to be bent
So based on the posts
12.9” LTE<11” lte<12.9” wifi only<11” wifi
So 11” wifi only has the most chances not to be bent..
