Who cares how many a person buys?? As long as Apple gets their money there should be no problem. These entrepreneurs are few and far between. They won't put a dent into Apple's bottom line...

I think it's more their reputation they are trying to protect than their bottom line. They want to have control over who sells their product and I'm guessing they want to eliminate a potential over inflation of the post-retail pricing.

Just my $0.02.

At $829 for a 64Gig 3G iPad, Apple should not be concerned about "potential over inflation"! It appears to be built-in, LOL.

I don't know why he doesn't just go to a Best Buy when stock comes in and pay cash.

Banned umm

This guy cannot buy iPads for the rest of his life

Apologizes if this was already posted.

Whether or not you agree what happened to this guy, I found his depiction for the experience pretty well-done. His writing of the Genuis bar convesation cracked me up.

Read it here: How I went from Apple store newbie to lifetime ban in one week

I did not know Apple could ban you from buying their products (obviously a move to counter e-bay hoarders). Amazing how this guy managed to buy so many iPads when other people are having such a hard time buying one locally.

I'm sure his "lifetime" ban will end as soon as iPads are shipping overseas and the supply has built up in a few months, or at the latest when the next model comes out. Of course, he could always go to Best Buy and buy as many as he wants.

Haha this is hilarious...
"All I can say is that you've reached your lifetime limit"

but can't he order them online and get them delivered at some friends/relatives house? he should figure out at least something...lifetime ban is stupid IMO

It's not stupid. One, he is taking stock from supply that some of us otherwise we be getting, and two, I found some of his figures for what he was charging his "friends" overseas a little disturbing.

It's an open market. No one has any more right to an iPad than anyone else. Apple's 2 per customer is fair, but if people are too lazy to get up and buy one, they shouldn't complain that someone else has beat them to it.

I'm in Europe and bought an iPad. Do you suggest that you have more right to own one than I do because you are from the US and I'm not?

It's because of stupid rules like these that I had to pay $950 for my iPad...

How's that? You didn't have to do ****. You could very well have waited and you know it. The iPad does not replace anything so it's not like something died or broke and you were sitting around waiting for something new to come by. You made a choice to pay above retail to get it to you before Apple could. Man up and take some personal responsibility.

PS the OP is a repost of news that broke weeks ago.

That, is extremely strange. Why would Apple want to limit the amount a customer can buy? Madness!

For most of my life I couldn't buy iPads. For most of my life I actually never heard of an iPad. Waiting a month longer really doesn't affect me. It's like people having to go to the movies on the first day a film comes out... - it's the same movie a week later, or two years later when I buy it for £5 on a DVD, or four years later when I find the same DVD even cheaper :D

The limits help to stop profiteering. Look what happened to the Wii when it first came out. No one was able to get one that first Christmas unless they were lucky, or paid through the nose on eBay. Putting a limit on it gives more people a chance to buy one.

HTH

That's my point. This guy seems to believe someone held a gun to his head and forced him to pay way over retail for his iPad. I simply believe people need to take some responsibility for the decisions they make. The news, as it relates to this thread, is old. :)

I found the story pretty entertaining.

Especially the Apple-drone's persistent reply:

"All I can say is you've reached your lifetime limit....."

There's a meme waiting to happen right there.
