Serves him right. Then again, people who use Ebay deserve what they get.

Did you even read the story? He claims he was buying them to send to forum buddies in Europe... Not to sell them on ebay or profit off them.

Anyways, I'm sure he can easily have a family member or friend walk in and buy one on their credit card. I would do that then smash it over the dipsh*t Genuis' head who kept repeating "All i know is that you have a lifetime ban" :p

I found the story pretty entertaining.

Especially the Apple-drone's persistent reply:

"All I can say is you've reached your lifetime limit....."

There's a meme waiting to happen right there.

Yeah it was handled pretty poorly on their end. Seems obvious it was their first time in that situation.

A simple "Sir, we notice you have purchased X number of iPads to date. Until inventory levels are higher we will not be able to sell you any additional units. Sorry." would have been infinitely more professional.

It's not stupid. One, he is taking stock from supply that some of us otherwise we be getting, and two, I found some of his figures for what he was charging his "friends" overseas a little disturbing.

Are you ****ing kidding? Two-day express shipping to Europe, how much do you think that costs...

I really don't care. He wanted to send iPads overseas, he paid the price. Nobody said he had to express ship anything. Like those people in Europe could not wait for the iPad to launch over there.

People like that are the reason why it takes a while for supply to catch up with demand. I remember the Wii debacle quite well. Some ******* here bought all the Wii's when they came in here. Come to find out, he had a friend that worked for Wal-mart that was tipping him off as to when the inventory was being replenished. Every time a shipment of Wii's was due to come in, like clock work, the dude was there purchasing them. He was selling them on e-Bay and making a killing.

When they found out about the employee and the buyers arrangement, the Wal-mart employee was fired.

If there were not a limit on how many iPads a person can get, I could just see someone buying a bunch of them. Had a similiar situation with AT&T and the iPhone. AT&T initially announced that it would be like one per person or two per person. Little young guy walks in, we were waiting in line. They told us they had 10 of this model and 15 of this model. We make it into the door. You can see the guy telling the AT&T rep that he has to get one for him, his wife, and their six children. That's eight iphones, They ring his purchases up, activate them, and he leaves. He just pretty much decimated the 16gb (which was the one they had ten of). So there are two 16gbs left. Store manager comes out, and tells the people waiting that there are no more 16 gigabytes left. They could opt for the 32 gigabyte or begin the preorder process.

Now, yeah, maybe the dude had a child, but I doubt he had that many children and I am willing to bet he sold them on eBay and made a killing. That is why there are limits. Now when the iPad is launched in most places and their is adequate supply, then go ahead and buy as many as you like. You can't turn around on eBay and selling them for ridiculous prices then cause it would be cheaper for them to just order it from Apple.

I stated in my post that "life time ban is stupid IMO"
:)
I know that supplies are short but he is not cheating or stealing...he is giving the full price of the ipad and just doing a favor for his friends...
If people desperately want the ipad they should have pre-ordered it before! (no offense to anyone) :)

The guy bought 14 - 14! - iPads, selling $499 iPads for $650 and claiming he was doing "favors" for "friends."

Granted, he apparently wasn't aware of the policy until the event described here. But common sense should tell you that with any hard to get item, buying 14 is being a greedy little piglet.

His encounter with the store employees sounds like the employees were following their script as well as they could, while the guy asked them the same questions they obviously couldn't answer over and over.

Um, he bought a total of 5 iPads. Did you even read the blog entry, or notice this at the end:

Let’s play a game: how many sites will use this photo in connection with my story when they post about it, thinking these iPads are all mine? Just a little test to see if people actually read what I write instead of being sensationalists and grabbing only what they want to hear.

You counted the number of iPads in the last photo, didn't you?

That story is misleading; Apple doesn't actually ban you for spending too much money. They just kick you out, tell you to never come back; but if you do return in a few weeks with money they will be happy to sell you something.

Oh snap!!! :D

What if you pay by cash? They don't take down your details when buying, do they?

I'm on Apple's side in this. It sounds to me like he and his friends were trying to circumvent the price difference in different countries. And they weren't for sale in those countries either. Another no-no.

^^^^ How about this situation: I'm a rich bast*rd and I'm having a party for 20 people, and I want to buy 20 iPads to give out as a party gift. Why shouldn't I be allowed to?

It shouldn't matter the reason for wanting to buy 20 iPads. If you can pay, you should be allowed to buy.

I'm not. I don't see anything wrong with what he was doing (if he is being completely truthful). He wasn't trying to rip people off by marking up the price significantly, he wasn't smuggling the iPads... he was just trying to help out some people that wanted to get their hands on one early.

Him and his friends weren't doing anything illegal. Just because it wasn't for sale there yet doesn't mean you shouldn't be allowed to buy it. It's just a more complicated way of buying it.

That's not a need, that's a want/desire.

And last I checked, there's nothing in the U.S. Constitution guaranteeing that just because you have enough money to buy something, that you have the right to purchase it. So suck it up and accept the conditions that Apple is putting on this product for the time being, or take your business elsewhere. Just like the Flash issue, whining about this isn't going to change a damn thing.
