Yea it is ******** and I wouldn't joke about something like that. I was just as exited to get mine Saturday as you all were. I am South of Wichita, Ks.

Sorry, but this is really out in the middle of nowhere. You should have really expected no Sat. delivery.

Did you even check if saturday delivery was available in your area vs. driving to KC to pick it up at the Apple store? Heck, I live in San Diego and checked before I ordered.

There was a link when I ordered to check availability of Sat. delivery before I chose pickup or delivery.

I just got off the phone with Apple regarding the exception I received from UPS in the OP. They said, they just received word from "corporate" headquarters yesterday to reassure everyone that no matter what exception message they see, they will get iPads out guaranteed on Saturday. The CS rep said that they are working closely with shippers to make sure everyone gets theirs on Saturday, regardless of where they live or what services are available. I figured this was the case, but that specific exception freaked me out a little bit. So I guess Ill just be waiting patiently on Saturday like the rest of us...

I would image that some people will fall into the expanded saturday delivery group, but if you get this.. i would imagine its true..

I have received many a package from UPS on Saturday so either Apple is wrong or they have tried to reduce UPS expense for this special off-day arrangement they made.
With the stories going around that Apple withheld customs papers and has the shipment under armored guard, I think Apple should have done better than promising Sat delivery on preorders.

Well said. A simple "UPS Saturday delivery required in your area for April 3rd receipt" would have been perfect. I always get my Apple Store orders via FedEx, which DOES deliver everywhere on Saturday. I never expected these to be UPS. At least I can find peace in knowing that Apple & UPS are getting hammered with phone calls about this.

I just received that email, so I sent them one back

Apple sent me an e-mail a few days ago saying my order would deliver by APRIL 3RD (I even called on Tuesday to confirm this). I am highly disappointed that they could not meet that date. They could have sent it FedEx and I could have received it on the RELEASE DATE AS ADVERTISED. As one of the early adopters I am sure there will be many others (that don't receive iPad on release date) that see this shipping decision (not using FedEx) as being very short sighted and not thinking of people having to wait for over 2 months to receive this product on Saturday April 3rd!!!!!!

It said right on the pre-order page that it would be delivered on Monday if you don't have Saturday delivery. They're not just springing this on you at the last minute.

I got two of the dreaded emails of doom from Apple and when I called them, I was told they were sent in error and gave me a free case for my troubles.

The rep had me on hold forever and stated again that Apple has a contract with UPS for Sat delivery

Now here is where it got heated.......I called UPS and was told its coming on Monday, I said that was unacceptable and let me pick it up from the depot. The CSR tried blowing me off saying there was nothing he could do. I demanded his supervisor as all rules are made to be bent or broken.

The Supervisor was kind enough to explain the Apple contract and said that the normal tracking system wont reflect changes until Saturday morning for out of scope Sat delivery and I will get the iPad as promised on Saturday.

Not sure how reliable this will be on 4/3/10 but its better than nothing :(

I should have reserved to pick up at store

I should have reserved to pick up at the store, but since every package I have received from them in the past has been delivered by FedEx (and they delivery to me on Saturdays) I did a pre order so I wouldn't have to wait in line at the Apple store.

By the way, Apple has no idea whether or not your area has Saturday UPS service. I would like to see a screen-shot of the purported email from Apple. Or you could forward it to me. PM for my email address.

It is April 1. And even if not, we're often subjected to attention-seeking behavior at MacRumors.

So, I'm with everyone else right now with the following (today and yesterday):

SHENZHEN, CN 03/30/2010 3:01 A.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 04/01/2010 4:18 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

I'm not worried... but man, it's annoying not seeing it go any where! =(

Mine is the same but not to worry. I ship with UPS daily and sometimes their tracking system gets a freeze. Likely tomorow it will be in Ky or your local hub

Many of us didn't know they would use UPS, or we would have done more research before placing the order... obviously. In many of my other posts I stated that Apple Store always ships FedEx which is a non-issue for Saturday delivery, hence the reaction we are having. People in metropolitan areas can scratch their head and say wow, why didn't you... For us that live in the sticks, it was impressive that Apple would get us the product on Saturday, which was posted all over the net, listed on the order confirmation, and listed on the order status. until today, when they send a "magical and revolutionary" email to us saying.... meh, not wasting time or money on you Mr. Customer... you can get it Monday.

Never mind. Comments were irrelevant ; )

I find it hard to believe Apple would send out April Fool's jokes. If this email is truly from Apple, then it's not a joke. There WILL be people who pre-ordered that won't get Saturday delivery and will have to wait until Monday, and I think it stated that pretty clear during the pre-order process.

If its not from Apple... then ignore it.

I live in a little town called Parowan, UT. I didn't really think I was getting Saturday delivery until started reading the posts and then just got my hopes up. I might just be too excitable kind of like waiting for Santa Claus.

Man I hope your right but I am not holding my breath.

UPS Saturday deleivery is not for all locations. Mainly in cities but seldom rural. 10 miles out of the metro area is a long way to deliver an iPad. It did state very clearly in the order that not all places get Saturday and you will get it Monday!

I am betting that Apple is trying to spread out the horror of too many people logging into itunes!

Try a different strategy...

It would be silly for Apple to use two different shipping companies for a major time- and security- sensitive launch such as this. It doubles the complications and possibilities of something happening. Next time, plan ahead and either don't take the chance with delivery (now that you know Saturday delivery is not available) and instead, reserve one at the store. FedEx is no perfect beast either. I had a package I expected to be delivered on Xmas Eve last year. It was marked as delivered, but it didn't get put on my doorstep until Christmas. A friend of mine that worked at FedEx said that they contract out some deliveries and that the contractor probably scanned it for delivery to make his commitment, but never bothered to make it until after I opened a "lost package" ticket with FedEx. Because of this, I didn't trust having any shipper try to get it to me on Saturday, and instead I reserved it at my local store for pickup.

Second, you aren't that far from an Apple store, so if you really want one on Saturday, get in your car and go stand in line at an Apple store. Then when yours arrives on Monday, sell it on Craigslist or eBay to everyone else that didn't plan ahead. In the end, you may make some money for your trouble.
