Yeah, I got that email today too. Funny thing is, I called UPS customer service yesterday with this concern and the rep said that my area code indeed does not have Saturday delivery. However, she did say she would check on any exceptions related to Apple's deal with them and came back to tell me there was a special exception made between Apple and UPS that would include "non-saturday" areas and that I would get it on Saturday.
So there you go......flip a coin. Guess we'll find out soon.

Here's the number to call if you want to check for your Saturday shipment.
I'd be curious to see if this info is consistent from rep to rep.

International Export/Import Services:
1-800-782-7892

ps. I'm 5 miles outside of the city limits of Corvallis, Or. that does have Saturday delivery available.

Yah it's still in China.

It looks like the map is showing your iPad riding in a truck across the ocean.

Looking at the tracking updates, I think it's showing still in China.

Thanks, that was my thought as well, not that it matters much, not thinking I had it shipped to my work so I won't see it till Monday morning anyways :p

I'll just have to occupy myself with going into NYC this weekend to the auto show.

I got two of the dreaded emails of doom from Apple and when I called them, I was told they were sent in error and gave me a free case for my troubles.

The rep had me on hold forever and stated again that Apple has a contract with UPS for Sat delivery

Now here is where it got heated.......I called UPS and was told its coming on Monday, I said that was unacceptable and let me pick it up from the depot. The CSR tried blowing me off saying there was nothing he could do. I demanded his supervisor as all rules are made to be bent or broken.

The Supervisor was kind enough to explain the Apple contract and said that the normal tracking system wont reflect changes until Saturday morning for out of scope Sat delivery and I will get the iPad as promised on Saturday.

Not sure how reliable this will be on 4/3/10 but its better than nothing :(

Is this an April Fool's prank? I grew suspicious when I saw the free case thing

Easy way to figure it out: go to the UPS site and pretend you are scheduling a shipment from someplace else to your zip code. If the Saturday delivery option shows you are OK for sure.

I did this just a few minutes ago just to see the price difference. For an iPad like device they would have charged me $33 -- but Monday delivery was a little over $10. Of course, Apple negotiated much lower costs I assume.

I find it hard to believe Apple would send out April Fool's jokes. If this email is truly from Apple, then it's not a joke. There WILL be people who pre-ordered that won't get Saturday delivery and will have to wait until Monday, and I think it stated that pretty clear during the pre-order process.

If its not from Apple... then ignore it.

How could someone assume I meant it was an April fools joke from Apple? Yeah, Apple is gonna send these out as a joke, lol! I'm saying OP is making the April fools joke. I don't think the email is real, or the suggestion that people got one. Could I be wrong? Maybe ;)

Not a prank...I called Apple to complain as well about getting the "no Saturday delivery" email since Saturday delivery is available in my area. Apple did not offer to give me a free case, but said if UPS claims there is Saturday delivery then there should not be a problem. They apologized for the email and the confusion.

I wish it was April Fools :(

but seriously she added an iPad case to my order due to all the confusion but kept saying over and over that I will get the iPad on the 3rd as that is the contract they have with UPS.

My confidence level on it happening is at 40/60 right now

UPS Saturday deleivery is not for all locations. Mainly in cities but seldom rural. 10 miles out of the metro area is a long way to deliver an iPad. It did state very clearly in the order that not all places get Saturday and you will get it Monday!

I keep hearing this. I did not see the "saturday issue" clearly stated anywhere when I preordered. If I knew there might be an issue, I have plenty of friends and family I could have had it delivered to that live in larger cities.
Maybe I just missed the disclaimer.

...I mean probably half the preorders are most likely not in a major city. gads.

I got the same e-mail about it won't be here until the 5th.

I called UPS and the lady told me they have an agreement with Apple and they will be delievered on the 3rd. I only live 15 minutes from a big UPS center. I have gotten several Saturday pacakges from UPS and FedEx in my area before.

My heart dropped when I saw that e-mail though. I am sure Apple is covering their ass though in case it is not delievered on the 3rd.

As far as I can tell it isn't a hoax or scam or an Apple Fools. The email from apple had all of my information including the order number and address I was shipping to which is different from my billing address. If it is a scam apple has a bigger problem of letting out personal information.

The email is real. If it's a joke or hoax, they got all my info:
Order number
PO number
Web order number
and Customer number.

Thats why I'm picking mine up, lots of Areas have cut out Sat delivery because of the economy, then throw the holiday in there, I think there will be alot of dissapointed people Sat.

Hello folks first time post. I just wanted to pass along some info, so take it for what it's worth.
According to UPS website I do not have Saturday delivery in my area. Just a few minutes ago, while on a lucnh break, I ran into the UPS driver and he was very nice to stop what he was doing and help me.

He made a call to his main supervisor and as soon as he said iPad and my area the guy said they would be delivering those out here on Saturday.

My guess is Apple mad a deal with UPS to go out of their "normal" saturday delivery area to get as many of these delivered as possible. If you live in a very rural area probably no hope but if your just a "little" outside of a Saturday delivery area, HOLD OUT HOPE!!

This is a hoax, scam, or worse.

No Apple Store emails come from "do_not_reply@apple.com."

Im starting to agree, first off I got two emails, secondly the emails look so unofficial and lastly Apple when I called had no idea about these emails even going out and kept stating that all their records show we will get the iPads on Saturday as promised per their contract with UPS.

Also forget to add my shipping address has my business name and that is reflected in the email I got from Apple with my UPS tracking number but the two emails I got today don't have my business name listed in the shipping address just my real name.

Why doesn't someone who got the email call Apple with your order number and ask them?

It is just people hoping that the email they got is not real. It is sad.:(

I am on the phone with apple now and they are saying it will be Monday. No joke fellows. This is BS. They told me at first they would ship here on Saturday when i placed the order and now they aren't holding up their end of the deal. Not acceptable.

Many of us didn't know they would use UPS, or we would have done more research before placing the order... obviously. In many of my other posts I stated that Apple Store always ships FedEx which is a non-issue for Saturday delivery, hence the reaction we are having. People in metropolitan areas can scratch their head and say wow, why didn't you... For us that live in the sticks, it was impressive that Apple would get us the product on Saturday, which was posted all over the net, listed on the order confirmation, and listed on the order status. until today, when they send a "magical and revolutionary" email to us saying.... meh, not wasting time or money on you Mr. Customer... you can get it Monday.

When I ordered, there was a link to see if there was Saturday delivery in my area. I checked even though I am in a major metro area.
