Though spoofing headers isn't out of the question, Apple has been assigned all of the 17.0.0.0/8 address space, so unless someone has gone to a lot more trouble than is likely (also assuming your Apple order number was accurate), it's no hoax.

But that begs the question... Why are people getting these emails, but also supposedly confirming via Apple/UPS that they will still get them on Saturday?

Spoofing isn't out of the question. It would be a lot of trouble to go through for a hoax, though. But still... since Apple isn't backing the email up when people call them... I'm still not convinced they're legit.

Welcome to MacRumors. Your concern is quite interesting.
Wow, with welcomes like that, guess I don't have to worry about flames on this board. Does the fact that I actually ordered an IPAD on opening day make me more legit? Perhaps I need to post something rosey and upbeat before I am worthy enough to avoid getting tagged as a "concern troll" according to your link.

Sure it might be. But Apple isn't a shipping company.

Also, someone please explain to me how I find these numbers:
My Apple customer number?
PO number?
And what's the difference between the "Web Order Number" and "Our Order Number"?

I have an "Order Number". What one is that? The "Web" or "Our" Order Number?

Again... I vote bogus.

Well in the message they sent me it has the correct shipping address which was not an address I've ever used before in any online order or at any other time...I have only used it for this package how did a scammer get this?

I live in a little town called Parowan, UT. I didn't really think I was getting Saturday delivery until started reading the posts and then just got my hopes up. I might just be too excitable kind of like waiting for Santa Claus.

I live in a small town in Utah as well and had to call UPS to have them hold the iPad for me. Have you tried that?

Left hand, meet right hand

But still... since Apple isn't backing the email up when people call them... I'm still not convinced they're legit.

Apple certainly isn't immune to one hand not knowing what the other hand is doing, especially when the divide is between Senior Management and the customer-facing side of the company. Whoever people have been able to reach at Apple, probably have no idea about emails from the company concerning the launch.

I removed the link from my message. However, I am still unconvinced of your claims.

Well... the headers are entirely legitimate.

# whois 17.254.13.36

OrgName: Apple Computer, Inc.
OrgID: APPLEC-3
Address: 20740 Valley Green Drive, MS32E
City: Cupertino
StateProv: CA
PostalCode: 95014
Country: US

and the sending IP address does appear to belong to Apple.com.

My town (Provo, UT) doesn't appear to have Saturday delivery available from UPS (if I calculate a shipment via UPS.com), and my tracking information ends with:

So I guess this email does hold some credibility, even if mailed on April 1st.

I called UPS in Provo and they said that they don't have Saturday delivery, but the lady I talked to probably doesn't know about the iPad deal. I called the other day over to the Orem depot (I imagine you will get yours from there as well) and they lady said that she would hold mine for Saturday morning pickup. I suggest you do this as well. It does seem like UPS is a little clueless about the deal Apple has set up.

Just realised that you'll need to use your charger with the iPad... or get one since it's 10W and the iPhone one isn't 10W iirc and you're going to end up with a US adaptor, so you'll need a travel adaptor.

Just talked to apple, they said the email is legit, it came from UPS and they basically forwarded it on. However he told me to give them a call because the info is not 100% correct and they are updating some areas to go ahead and receive Sat delivery and you have to call and ask them.

This is a hoax, scam, or worse.

No Apple Store emails come from "do_not_reply@apple.com."

Actually, looking back through my emails from Apple, I got messages from this address both as iTunes receipts (from an album purchase at the beginning of the month, but from do_not_reply@itunes.com for an app purchase a couple weeks ago) and when signing up for the iPhone Dev program a few weeks ago.

Still this :confused::

3/30/2010 3:24:00 PM ORIGIN SCAN SHENZHEN, CN
3/29/2010 1:00:00 AM UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY / UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY LOUISVILLE, KY US
4/1/2010 5:32:00 PM BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED CN

I've lost my patience already. I just wanna know where it is right now.

For all my friends that have packages stuck in China with not status change ..... try iship.com

On the official UPS site I only have the billing and origin scans, but the iship.com tracking page shows

4/1/2010 11:55:00 AM LOCATION SCAN GUANGZHOU, CN
4/1/2010 11:54:00 AM LOCATION SCAN GUANGZHOU, CN
3/30/2010 2:57:00 AM ORIGIN SCAN SHENZHEN, CN
3/29/2010 1:00:00 AM UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY / UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY LOUISVILLE, KY US
3/30/2010 1:21:00 PM BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED CN

So now its showing the Internal Activity telling them to hold the package for Sat delivery.

As to my friends that are upset that there is no Saturday delivery, and feel Apple is at fault.

The website clearly states that if it is available - plain and simple. Everyone just assumed they would use FedEx as they always do. They prob went with UPS because they won the shipping contract. Apple isnt out to screw you out of money, they are however out to make money as they ARE a business

No one has a leg to stand on as far as complaints really. It's just business. But believe me, I would be upset as well if it happened to me, but you have to look at it from a logical, business decision. Theres also no way of knowing that as of Pre-Ordering starting up, that Apple had even SECURED a contract with any shipping company, and thus why it was not explicitly on their site as such.

Mine still shows billing info recv... has for over 36 hours, But I have not recv that email from apple saying I dont have saturday delv...

So im getting nervious
