Yeah M1 only based on the keynote.

May need to pick myself up a 11 inch pro with go with my 12.9 now

by the end of this year...when the ios/ipadOS16 will be more stalbe as well we will have 5 ipads models that works with this.
M1 ipad air/ and 2 pros and the upcoming two models M2 ipad pros

Yep. I’m never gonna use it on the Pro 11. It’s questionable whether I’d even use it on 12.9 sans external display.

Unless it’s something that you’re unlikely to trigger accidentally, I’d prefer an option to disable it.
The new display resolution scaling option will probably make the 11” pro better for split screen

A great example of how folks should definitely only buy a machine that does what they want, right now

Future proofing, as many claim to think about, is largely a fools errand these days.

I don’t subscribe to future proofing myself. However, I do try to maximize useful life of my devices, especially considering these things cost $1500-2000.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I do think it’s still possible to make an educated guess when it comes to performance headroom and useful life.

There is ZERO reason the 2020 Pro models with A12Z don't support this feature. the DTK used the same A12Z. This feature is not RAM heavy enough to justify the difference from 8GB vs 6GB RAM. This is Apple likely wanting people with just 2 year old models to upgrade to push sales. We paid for a Pro model and this is a Pro feature, it should be on as many Pro models as possible. RAM is a BS excuse, they could've made it work.
Why is the no black bars external display feature also exclusive to M1 models only, I'm pretty sure that uses almost no RAM at all.

Installed the iPad OS Dev Beta - Stage Manager is just broken at this stage - external display works but Trackpad on MKB barely works

How did you get it to work? When I plug in a display it's just the old mirror...And yes I do have an M1 iPad Pro. Thanks!

I think RAM is indeed an issue and even 8GB is tight, that's why they introduced swap for M1. But the fact that they didn't for the 2020 Pro has no excuse (they even did it for the Air 4 from 2020 with 256GB storage). They could have added swap it for the 2018 and 2020 pro with at least 256GB storage and then allow Stage Manager

When you say Stage Manager is broken for you, can you elaborate?

I’ve also installed the Dev Beta on my M1 iPP and Stage Manager fully working as intended for me, as is my MKB and Trackpad.

Also, for anyone who’s interested, this is a dream to use on the new Apple Studio Display.

I can get stage manager to work from control center but I don’t see a toggle for the external display to scale or extend

How will it look on other, lesser monitors with say, 1080p displays? Same outcome, but not as sharp?

If you go to Settings, the Display & Brightness, there’s a new “Arrangement“ option. make sure ‘mirror display” is unchecked.

Is it only supposed to work with an external display? I’m running an M1 12.9 and don’t see Stage Manager, just the old side by side multi tasking. Edit: never mind. How do you enable that new resolution they talked about?

as an owner of a 4th generation iPad Pro 12.9, I have to say I am pretty disappointed. Have been waiting for this feature for ages. It's really not acceptable that it doesn't work on a 2 year old top of the line ipad which I paid almost 2000 dollars. Not going to upgrade, thank you Apple

Settings - Display and Brightness - Display Zoom, then enable the “more space” option 👍🏼
