No the Stage Manager windowed multitasking works on the M1 ipads regardless of whether they are attached to an external display (Studio display or otherwise). So to make the iPad a real pro now I need to buy a $2.5-3kAUD studio display lol, ok.

I guess it’s also going to really hurt the resale value of any non-M1 iPad from now on.as an owner of a 4th generation iPad Pro 12.9, I have to say I am pretty disappointed. Have been waiting for this feature for ages. It's really not acceptable that it doesn't work on a 2 year old top of the line ipad which I paid almost 2000 dollars. Not going to upgrade, thank you Apple
if you had a 12.9 M1 you wouldn't want to be using anything else than a studio, would be like going from 4K to 720No the Stage Manager windowed multitasking works on the M1 ipads regardless of whether they are attached to an external display (Studio display or otherwise).
Why? it’s nice to have this feature finally but 90% or more won’t even use it or know about it.I guess it’s also going to really hurt the resale value of any non-M1 iPad from now on.
Its almost like non M1 will be treated the same way Intel chip Macs are treated, avoid at all cost unless you get an insane bargain.I guess it’s also going to really hurt the resale value of any non-M1 iPad from now on.
Had to have keyboard and mouse connected, thanks for Your help!If you go to Settings, the Display & Brightness, there’s a new “Arrangement“ option. make sure ‘mirror display” is unchecked.
Does the Display Zoom higher resolution work with Sidecar? Good higher resolution external display option on the go for a MacBook if so.Settings - Display and Brightness - Display Zoom, then enable the “more space” option 👍🏼
Good news you can easily disable Stage Monitor from control centreJust please make all of this new multi/stage everything something you can fully disable
My older relatives are already confused by the multi-tasking stuff they want none of
Not all customers want the iPad to be more and more like a Mac
iPad pro users are more aware than basic iPad users and youtubers will advertise the feature a lot. So while initially it may be 90% over time probably most iPad pro users will know about Stage Manager and that might influence their buying/selling decisions. Even if they won't necessarily use it, they'll price it in the decision whether to go with the 2018/2020 or 2021 proWhy? it’s nice to have this feature finally but 90% or more won’t even use it or know about it.
If you want overlapping windows you’ll need at least 640KB Ram on windows 3.0 😁Yes only for the M1 since that feature requires a lot of RAM...so only 8gb and 16gb ipads can do that
How do you enable Stage Manager? I’m also on a 2021 M1 12.9 iPad Pro and don’t see itSettings - Display and Brightness - Display Zoom, then enable the “more space” option 👍🏼
It’s in control center. How do you enable Stage Manager? I’m also on a 2021 M1 12.9 iPad Pro and don’t see it
I agree it's very clunky. The app switcher on the side (and also the dock as well) can be hidden by long pressing the stage manager icon in control center.just tried the stage manager. first of all, the name can't be weirder. Just as someone already pointed out, this can be implemented with the current bottom bar, why does it need another vertical bar to take already limited real state. switching apps, minimizing apps are also confusing. Overall, it is an overengineered feature, it can be much simpler.
Thanks so much. Weird place to have it. I love the look of Stage Manager. It’s about time we have the ability to keep multiple apps in a stacked window view. It’s in control center.

Yeah . When i see it a bit clutter . The stage manager is weird if you had dual monitor / wide monitor and even weirder in small screen . It should copy samsung dex feature , upon dock multi task enable.just tried the stage manager. first of all, the name can't be weirder. The base iPad is newer than the M1 iPads and it isn't either. All of these comments talking about CS and external monitor support not working on 2018/2020 iPad Pros and 4th gen iPad Air.....spare a thought for the iPad mini. It is NEWER than the 2021 iPad Pro and the A15 chip is also newer than the M1. It's a device that is barely 9 months old and isn't getting support.
I think we are going to see a ton of 2018/2020 iPad pros on the used market over the next few months...
