One of the nicest upgrades in OS15 was the ease of adding an app not in the dock to split-screen. How do I add an app from the Home Screen or App Library to one of the Stage Manager groups?

Well, for me… my setup has always been to keep all my apps on the dock. This helps me to quickly multitask through the dock… drag & drop along with having the App Library always accessible.

Another tip. You can use Spotlight to quickly access an app.

I am pissed as I just sold my iPP 3rd Gen 1 TB on Swappa last night and kept the 256 GB one. I didn't need the 1 TB storage so thought let me sell that and get more money. Now I wish I kept that and sold the iPP 3rd Gen 256 GB as that 16 GB RAM on 1 TB would be sweet.
8GB RAM is going to be a lot easier to deal with now that iPads have swap memory.

I guess it’s also going to really hurt the resale value of any non-M1 iPad from now on.

On the upside, maybe I'll keep my eyes open for a reasonably new "non-M" iPP that someone is disposing of.

I have zero interest in external support or windows all over, etc, for my iPad usages

my ipad mini 6th gen only got 4 GB ram. For now most iphone /ipad apps in suspend mode/little usage ram as possible. M1 version got 8 GB or more ram , to sustain 8 apps max(as i heard maybe wrong) one time in one stage take a lot of ram usage so stick to m1 version only for multi tasking.

** on small screen not worth unless in aka "dex" mode like samsung / or connect to external monitor. Sometimes it odd,if we put normal usb c and the view is ergh odd.

So much wasted screen real estate. Now we need a larger iPad Pro (very much as I expected). External screen support is great through.

Wasted screen real estate? Not sure what you mean. Stage Manager utilizes every part of the screen on my iPad Pro... if anything notification center needs to be revamped specifically for iPads. Having the new feature of Display Zoom set to More Space it is quite evident that notification center needs to be addressed.

Basically, iPadOS 16 is like a 15.6 update for all iPads except the M1. I installed it to my 2018 iPad pro and there's literally nothing new worth mentioning. Even the new lock screen isn't coming to the iPad this year. Its one of the worst update in years.
The only point to wait is march next year new ipad pro m2. And september mostly for phone anyway. If ipad mini using m1 in september , then we will big mess up .Its like apple will be lazy focus m series only and a for phone.Budget ipad will have few years to a15 then m1 .

I think I’m already starting to like the direction they’re headed with Stage Manager, that being said, it’s a pretty unpolished implementation and I’m missing the ability to see things side by side. I would like more granular control over window sizes and positioning, too, right now it’s just a lot of messy stacks annd there’s not really a way to get windows next to each other on my 11” ipad even with scaling on. And it gets messy/confusing with the multitasking screen. I hope they get this ironed down with the betas because as it is right now, there’s no way people will be happy with it. But I’m optimistic about it! Fingers crossed they can get it to a good place.

Well, it is beta 1 ;)

Think a bit wider where this may be going. Stage manager is going to be on the Mac and iPP but is this something that can be used to present a working space in a AR/VR environment? It sure looks that way to me.

I have not tested but followed the keynote. It was lots of empty space around the default window size. Do you need to manually resize it to avoid the not used space? Stage Manager has potential but eats valuable space. Stamp sized (well iPhone sized) windows is useless for work in my opinion/experiance. Full screen mode and five finger swipe is much quicker/useful for small screen devices like 12.9 inch iPad. Drag and drop between windows is cool but copy and paste is as robust and does not depend on window management.

Time for a 12 and 15-16 inch iPad Pro. Well, give us a 24 inch "iPad Studio" as well which would shine with Stage manager.

Yes, you can manually resize windows and hide/show the the side menu along with the dock.

I agree it's very clunky. The app switcher on the side (and also the dock as well) can be hidden by long pressing the stage manager icon in control center.
Holy…. Great spot!!! Being able to turn off that side bar totally changes the experience for me (for the better)

When you say Stage Manager is broken for you, can you elaborate?

I’ve also installed the Dev Beta on my M1 iPP and Stage Manager fully working as intended for me, as is my MKB and Trackpad.

Also, for anyone who’s interested, this is a dream to use on the new Apple Studio Display.

Turned out I had "AssistiveTouch" on which isn't compatible with it currently!

I have to be honest I think external screen support is a bit "meh" - its really missing some kind of "snapping" feature.
I don't see too many scenario's where I really want "overlapping" windows - to be honest I'd like to be able to do what I can on Windows/Samsung DEX where I can just have 3/4 apps in a grid using all of the screen.

It seems currently like you can use one app full-screen but as soon as there's 2 they go into "Window mode" and its all but impossible to say get them to be 50/50 - maybe I'm missing something.

I have a really random question about Stage Manager 😅 Can you plug in or Airplay the iPad Pro onto a Mac desktop (like iMac) and use Stage Manager, or is it exclusively only for external monitors?
