iPadOS 26 introduces new capabilities for managing, accessing, and editing files.

The iPad's Files app is enhanced with a new List view that features resizable columns and collapsible folders, allowing users to see more document details at a glance and organize their files. To help users identify folders more easily, the app now supports folder customization with custom colors, icons, and emoji, all of which sync across devices.

For quicker access, users can drag any folder from the Files app directly into the Dock. iPadOS 26 also allows users to set a default app for opening specific files or file types.

I haven't installed iPadOS 26. Those that have, what does "..." button do? Does it let you add/remove columns? Such as Last Opened?

Also, can you make the list view more compact? The row size depicted on the picture is rather chunky.

It looks cool but fundamentally it doesn’t matter what they do with it unless they make it extendable. Oh sorry, someone sent me a RAR, guess I can’t open it. Oh you sent a mkv, I can’t that sorry.

It’s nice for a bit more control, but in the end, it’s still going to fall short. Something this new Apple seems quite good at doing. Cool F1 roof race bruh.

Does formatting drives get more options like partitioning the drive, choosing between GPT and MBR, etc.? As of right now, if a drive is not readable by the iPad, I believe there is no way to reformat, e.g. plugging in a drive formatted ext4 and wanting to reformat to APFS or ExFAT

But can I eject external drives properly? Pretty please?
You mean like on MacOS where I plug a USB stick in, drop two files on it and before I can eject it, Spotlight's indexer grabs the drive and from that moment on, Finder refuses point blank to eject it.. Is that what you mean?

Just get a Mac if you really need to do something productive.

Jesus. This whole "I want Mac on my iPad" is a complete waste of millions of hours of engineering
Unfortunately I have to disagree. While I own MacBook and like it, I also “own” short-sightness and everytime I wanna use it I need to have my glasses on. And iPad experience is different since I can literally throw it into my face. Even in their keynote Apple was showing a guy on a couch using an iPad, because thats how most use it - a couch (or bed) computer - to do many tasks without relying on big boy machines like MacBook or iMac

What is a waste is M4 power for iPad just for watching videos.
I use mine extensively for work. Works great. Having mobile data makes it a great work device. I use Citrix Workspace and connect to a virtual Windows desktop. For me, it’s not just a device to watch videos. I have no doubt that the M4 drastically improves what I do with it.

highly doubt you will benefit with 6 windows with tiny red/yellow/green buttons due to the "short-sightness"
