RAM aside, I'm also interested to see the SSD performance between the 64GB and the 256GB options this year.

The reality is, carriers provide their best guess on the specs. Apple certainly doesn't provide RAM specs to carriers. What are the consequences for carriers listing incorrect specs? Pretty much nothing. People can return the phone if they're not satisfied.
Trading standards are pretty harsh on mis-advertising. The tear down I hope will reveal the real situation. They were very confident it was 6GB at Vodafone.

4GB RAM bodes well for us XS users 🤣

Looking forward to seeing how the final iOS 13 build is more efficient, I’ve been using the Public Betas on my 2GB RAM iPad Air 2 and it’s done a great job even for multitasking, so 4GB RAM on XS and 11 should be more than enough.

Based on the tear downs there are only 4gb ram for all 3
Ipad pro all models will get first the 6gb ram and after that the 2020 iphone pro

iPad Pro already has 6GB in the 1TB model. We have yet to see the tear downs for the 11 yet. Tomorrow hopefully all will be revealed.

I'm surprised the RAM is the same as last year's models. Should add 6 GB to my 2020 iPhone wishlist.
I'm not surprised, considering that in terms of actual usage, very few people are truly having big issues with the 4 GB RAM on the XS/Max line last year. This is in stark contrast to those on 1 GB iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in their first year. Tons of people complained about that.

Given that Apple is traditionally stingy on RAM, my original expectation was 4 GB again for the Pro models. Then the fake spec leaks came out that said 6 GB so I was hopeful for that, but then after that all the more solid evidence came out which said 4 GB, which made more sense in terms of Apple's history.

I'm not convinced Apple will even offer 6 GB on iPhones in 2020. Even in 2020, IMO 4 GB will be adequate (even if it's not ideal for some users), and 5G will be enough to push sales. I know I'd definitely consider getting a 6.7" 4 GB 5G iPhone 12 Pro Max. Then in 2021, they'd go with 6 GB.

Meanwhile, the iPad Pros will go 6 GB in 2019Q4/2020Q1, and that's what I'll buy, unless I can get a killer deal on a clearance 2018 model 11".

I can see Apple bumping up RAM for future phones, depending on how their deep fusion photo processing utilizes RAM.

Apple is very conservative with RAM upgrades on their iPhone models, but I still don’t understand why people simply don’t get it, it’s not necessarily about the ‘Ram’ altogether the phone offers every year, it’s the coupled with the _performance_ from the A-Series processor that makes the phone that much more efficient. It’s a two-way street that requires not just the stability from the Ram, but the core efficiency from the processor.

A fast CPU doesn't compensate for lack of RAM. I would often say for Macs that it was a bad idea to buy the fastest CPUs with little RAM, if the RAM was not upgradable. Many would actually be better off buying a slower CPU with more RAM, if device longevity mattered to them.

That said, even in 2020, 4 GB would be adequate for most for an iPhone, especially if they didn't keep their iPhones for a long time.

It honestly looks like both sides of the 4 vs 6 argument might be right. 4 and 2 additional dedicated to the camera sounds about right.
From a build cost point of view, 4+2 doesn't make much sense.

If it is this, they did it so the 2gb is dedicated to the camera without being able to be touched by the system. I don't know how these things work but by this time tomorrow we should know. :D

5G will require more memory simply because of download speeds. Today, 5G already reaches 2 Gbps peak. That translates to 250 MB/sec, which is faster than what the flash storage in iPhone can handle. As we look to late 2020, 5G will only increase.

A lot of the 5G phones available today have plenty of RAM not just for show, it's needed for 5G as a buffer.

The point is it's unnecessary, and adds to the cost. This would be out-of-character for Apple too.

Maximum XS Max write speed is north of 1 GB/s (not 1 Gbps). Real world is less, but honestly I don't think too many people would complain if they only got 200 MB/s.

But, I'd be happy to get a 2020 6 GB iPhone. :) Either way, 2020 is going to be a great year. 6.7" OLED, 5G, big battery.

Thing is, most people do now. I wouldn't like another 4 GB iPhone in 2020 as ideally I'd still be using it in 2024 or even 2025.

Are you sure those are write speeds? Read speeds are north of 1 GB/sec, but write speeds are far slower, especially when you take into consideration the base model.

I agree, but we all know that Apple's history is on this.
