I don't know about you people but I feel like the 2020 iPhone will be a very boring update. 5G is neat but the rest of it seems mediocre. Just nothing that seems exciting or innovative . I would love Touch ID built into the screen, 120 hz screens, and no notch and none of those things are likely in iPhone 12. Maybe Apple is better than usual with covering up leaks but this seems like a boring update. Lesser update than the " S " updates of the past.

Well this is tech these days it’s hard to improve each year

All depends on what you need in a phone the chances from 11 pro to 12 pro will likely be

5G
New design
Slimmer bezels
Smaller notch
Better colour display
Better stills
Better video
Better zoom
More ram

Might get reverse wireless charging as well

This has been argued for every single iPhone hardware update in history except iPhone X. We're moving off the rounded edges finally, the cameras are going to be significantly upgraded, the notch is getting smaller, and that's all just from the very little information that's been leaked.

Just wait until the announcement or at least a couple more months - it's pretty hard to call something that doesn't and won't exist for another 4 months boring.

Also, hasn't it been pretty much confirmed that the Max is going to get even larger and the standard size will get even smaller? That's a pretty non-boring thing for me. Max users get more screen real estate and small phone fans get something that works better for them too.

Don't buy your phone every year and the updates will get exciting. The phone I buy this year will have tech five years newer than the phone I'm currently using.

I'm personally looking forward to owning a phone with an OLED display for the first time, and a new camera will be nice to have. Kinda bummed that I missed out on 3D touch, but it is what it is.

To be honest, it depends on where you are updating from. If you have an X or older, I think this could be the iPhone to upgrade to. If you are on the 11 or 11 Pro, then yeah I wouldn’t upgrade either. I have an X and was really hoping this one would be notch-less so I could without a doubt upgrade, but since it still has one, I’m debating whether to get it or wait another year. My X is performing quite well still, but either I upgrade or have to buy a new phone later for one of my kids who will be getting one early next year.

Don’t buy a new phone every year 🤷‍♂️
My iPhone history is 3G, 4, 6s .. most likely 12 Pro and it was a WoW upgrade every time ... even the old one did perfectly fine at the time of replacement. 6s to 12 is quite a gap, but no 7/8/X upgrade was so tempting.
iPhone 11 Pro camera upgrades almost got me.

Obviously can only go by the rumours/leaks but I think this is the biggest update since the iPhone X was introduced. Easily.

New squarer form factor and 5G as well as all of the other smaller changes combined make this a more exciting update than last year and the year prior. The reason being that the squarer/boxier design of the iPhone 4/4S/5/5S/SE (1st gen) is generally (although not unanimously) considered to be the best looking design for iPhone so far....so if we're going back to something similar then that's going to raise the anticipation of a lot of folks (again, I know not everyone agrees).

A new design generally gives Apple the flexibility to ease up on other features because that alone is a marketing selling point. The rumors have been all over the place between this being basically an iPhone 11 Pro in a new shell to a major update. We'll just have to see.

Well we really don’t know if it will be mediocre or not till it actually gets shown off in September. Everything else is just speculation for the most part.

The iPhone 12 is not necessarily a boring update its part of Apples tradition of bringing marginally updated products to the table that's why Apple products don't lose their value and original cost of their past products go down by 10% of prices each year. You're basically looking at 10% worth of upgrades each year.

There is Always one thread a few months before the iPhone launch, where someone says “I think the next iPhone launch will be boring”. I don’t know that I find iPhones in general to be exciting, but I look at it in terms of how does it benefit the user with Features that would impact your flow of communication and tools that would entice the want To upgrade.

but to the point, I don’t necessarily think this to needs a ‘thread’ where I think the next iPhone will be boring (Yes, Discussion is a good thing, but I don’t really see much discussion about something that’s ‘boring’). Just keep your opinion to yourself and move onto a different device that you would find ‘exciting’.

I don't think every new iPhone releases is boring.

I mean look at Android OEMs like Xiaomi and Samsung who are releasing the same phones in the mid-ranger and below with the same chips with just one or two differences, sometimes just different camera, different shell, and more RAM, and bam, new model. Now that's boring.

Apple at the least put significant improvements on the SoC and ISP.

In the end, it's a mature market. Even Apple thinks the iPhone 6s is still sufficient in 2021 as it will be supported with iOS 14. That shows you that the overall base hardware has plateaud. The rest of changes are just icing on the cake. I mean even Samsung reached plateau after the S6, where the designs are still in use today.

I think it depends who you ask. For me the iPhone 12 is more exciting than the last two years releases, but that’s because I’m ready to upgrade this year. Those with an iPhone 11 might not find it enough of a jump

We are still assuming and discussing rumours at this stage though in regards to the iPhone 12.

Coming from the XS Max it is an "okay-Update" for me if there is no 120 Hz screen builtin. If there will be the new screen it is a must have. I still hope Apple will announce the 12 Pro Max with 120 Hz. :)

to me it is but then again, the 11 was boring as well... Its just harder to wow people these days.

Hmmmm, there are a lot of rumors out there, rumors! If you are making a decision based on rumors, then you really need to wait until the keynote. That’s how Apple strings us along. They want people to upgrade every year as they slowly add new features to the iPhone. If Apple made they perfect iPhone with the best cameras, screens, etc, no one would Want to upgrade and Apple will not get funds and profits... It’s a yearly cycle. In 2021 that iPhone will have a little more than this iPhone because they know people will upgrade their device weather they need to or not.
