I have a 8+ so I may upgrade this time around. I am still completely underwhelmed though that Apple have got the notch. That’s why I got the 8+ as I hated the look of the notch. Also these rumours will be pretty much spot on as Apple have not managed to stop leaks of their phones in the last few years.

I’m sure there is going to be a few things that will interest people. I don’t understand the hate for the notch. It’s really not that bad ya big babies 😄

I think for a phone that they charge £1100 and up for and they can not use the whole screen In 2020 is pathetic at this stage.

cheaper brands manage it just fine so it’s not exactly hard. Unfortunately I am scared of change and having had iPhones now since the original I can not fathom going over to Android even though I wish I had the courage to do so.

I have the X and got it the week they launched. I’m holding out for the 12 Pro.
I wonder since our Apple store is temporarily closed, what will be the fastest way to get one. Any thoughts??

I have a Max phone so I really don’t see the notch too often. I can see it maybe getting in the way on your puny screens lol. I kid I kid. But still it’s almost never in the way. And if it is it’s because I zoomed in on a video. Do those cheaper phones have Face ID? I’ve only bought iPhones so I don’t know. I won’t buy an android for many more moons I think.

Not really, the iPhone XS was probably the most boring in years.

The 12 Pro actually has a lot going for it coming from the 11 Pro

New design at last after 6 years
Smaller bezels and notch
New Navy colour
5G
6GB RAM
Possible 120hz screen
Lidar sensor
Improved cameras
Better speakers
Faster Apple Silicon
Improved XDR Screen
Larger screens

Compare that to the XS that came after the X

Gold colour
Larger Max model
Improved camera
Faster Apple Silicon

Thats it, It was an utter pile of poo IMO.

After that I'd say 4S was close to being quite boring in terms of features added after the 4.

I am disappointed with the fact there is no 120hz option now however coming from a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra with a 120hz screen a lot of the time it's not even as smooth as 60hz on the iPhone and nowhere near as smooth as my iPad 11 Pro.

For me I am pretty excited about the launch specially if the leaked pricing of the 6.1 Max at $799 or so which could mean a price of around £749-£799 in the UK which is very good compared to the £1199 for my S20U (Samsung Upgrade Program so not actually paid that amount in full yet)

In the past I have always brought the very best iPhone since the 11 Pro Max and prior but this time I can't see myself doing this as I can live with a 60hz screen for £749 but not £1049 despite the better camera's , extra ram.

I disagree, the new se was the boring one.

Are smartphones generally exciting these days anyway? The product has matured to the point we are upgrading for incremental feature updates and we are mostly aware of what we want and expect a smartphone to do.

I know some people get their rocks off over a screen that has a slightly smaller bezel, an extra camera lens, and even down to the shiny finish of the chassis of an iPhone but is this really ‘exciting’? I mean, this year we’ve got people demanding to have ‘Lidar’ without really being able to explain and must have use case for it. Then we have those convinced a 120hz display is the difference between a phone being good and one being out of this world. To me, now the feature race of 2008-2016 has ended we’ve not really had anything other than improvements on what we already know. Just my opinion :)

Don't buy your phone every year and the updates will get exciting. The phone I buy this year will have tech five years newer than the phone I'm currently using.

I'm personally looking forward to owning a phone with an OLED display for the first time, and a new camera will be nice to have. Kinda bummed that I missed out on 3D touch, but it is what it is.
Don’t buy a new phone every year 🤷‍♂️
My iPhone history is 3G, 4, 6s .. most likely 12 Pro and it was a WoW upgrade every time ... even the old one did perfectly fine at the time of replacement. 6s to 12 is quite a gap, but no 7/8/X upgrade was so tempting.
iPhone 11 Pro camera upgrades almost got me.

So true. The truth is, no phone is really meant for people who already have last year's phone.

I don't know about you people but I feel like the 2020 iPhone will be a very boring update. 5G is neat but the rest of it seems mediocre. Just nothing that seems exciting or innovative . I would love Touch ID built into the screen, 120 hz screens, and no notch and none of those things are likely in iPhone 12. Maybe Apple is better than usual with covering up leaks but this seems like a boring update. Lesser update than the " S " updates of the past.

I'll at least wait until the phone is announced before I judge it.

Fastest way to get one would be to get a job in Quality Control in the factory in China, then slip one in your pocket. Or, if you don’t want to go through all that trouble of visas and work permits, just hijack a truck after it’s left the factory. The risk of that is that you can’t be sure what models you will end up with.....might be a truckload of SEs.

They aren’t made in China anymore. India is the new China.

I’m personally glad its likely to be a “boring” update as I wont be able to own a new iPhone for a while because of the PWM in the OLED displays. Rumour has it the 2021 iPhones will use the same LTPO OLED the series 5 Apple Watch uses and that doesn’t have PWM So that may be my upgrade. Let’s hope my 11 holds out until then.

It's always a modest upgrade from one generation to the next. A new generation of wireless and new form factors are actually bigger than the upgrades we've seen in a lot of prior years.

I also don't see what's wrong with "boring." The iPhone is a very mature and very popular product now. They don't need to reinvent the wheel every year.

I was looking forward to upgrading this year from a xs Max but now I’m just waiting for the keynote to see if I’ll upgrade or not.

Bingo. Buying a new smartphone every year is a foolish decision.

Subjective. It depends on ones financial status Partially, if they have the means to pay for a phone and they opt to upgrade, it’s not foolish if they justify the means appropriately. I would say it really depends on the person and their overall interest and how they choose to spend their money/upgrade. I understand quite a few people can’t afford the iPhone, but some of us can and we have the privilege of having the latest devices every year, rather it be paying full price, employer discounts/upgrades, promotional/Apple program, etc.

I'm still on a 7 and was looking to upgrade to the 12 Pro, but if it doesn't have a 120Hz screen, I will probably get a discounted 11 Pro. Should save me 400-500 euros.

iPhone 12, especially the 5.4" form factor, is the most significant release since iPhone 4s. A return to form stuffed with A** processor, decent camera, 5G future proof modems and HOME button-delete signals an AAPL technological advance in miniaturization.

iPhone X touted NextGen bonafides but iPhone 12 unifies Apple's strengths in technology AND form factor with the iconic glass functional S.S. banded-sides. iPhone 12 buyers could use and hold this model decade+.
