I have the gap on my 13 if you look closely in the photo. Debating whether or not I should try and get a replacement. It does bother me. I’m just afraid the replacement will have the same gap.

It’s worth a try!
I vacillated and canceled my genius appt twice! But decided to try anyway, and managed to snag a better phone!! Maybe I got lucky, but what’s the worse that can happen? Same gap? Best case you get a properly sealed phone.

Do you agree that my 13 has a gap or am I looking into it too much?

It’s hard to see in your pic, I see a line across the top of ear piece, but can’t tell if it’s reflecting off phone.
It’ll look like a metal piece to you when you shine a light over it. Does it look “golden/copper” ??

Here is my old phone:

It’s above right and left side of earpiece.

Unfortunately it’s like playing lottery….

I had now 10 different iPhone 13 Pro Max here, 3 of them did not have the gap but instead they had scratches on the frame, on the camera ring or on the LiDAR-sensor.

So you could play this return and exchange game forever.

It’s crazy! I kept a clean graphite pro max on standby just in case the return didn’t work out.

Whenever I look closely in the right light it just looks like I can see deeper into the phone than I am suppose to. I don't see any gold or copper I just see the aluminum color. I don't want dust and lint to build up in there because that is one of my main issues. I take the aesthetic of the phone too seriously.

That’s why I am not entering the lottery. My phone has the gap but it is not hampering with the functionality of the phone. I played return lottery with my 11Pro. Got 5 replacements before I quit. None of the phones was without flaw. This little metal thingy is a minor cosmetic issue. I decided to forget about and go on.

That was my same concern too! Then schedule an appt with the apple genius. I too hesitated because I thought I was being nitpicky or that I would get another gapped phone. Had I gave into that inner voice I would not have lucked out.
Like I said if it’s bothering you that much try to exchange it, within a reasonable amount of attempts… what do you have to lose??

I know, I just don't want to go there and get another flawed phone with a gap or something different. My 11 Pro Max had a green tint on the top of the display but I just dealt with that. I feel like there's always something wrong with my products. It's just the world testing my OCD to see how much I can handle before I finally break lol

That is exactly what I keep telling myself and my OCD 😂 … only 10 months.

I really wanted the Sierra Blue one, but all those gap problems, scratches on the frame or glass back etc. made it impossible for me to keep one.

Now I have a silver one and whenever I get annoyed by the scratches (... and you will get them on the silver one just by looking at it…) I can polish them out and the gap is really not that bad on that one.

I have a launch day graphite that was perfect… I’m going to mail it back now since I managed to score a sierra blue in great condition. Hopefully next year they have the QC nailed down. If not, I’m keeping the 13 pro max for another year!

I just want my phone to feel satisfying when I use it and I don't want to have to think about anything being wrong with it.

Apple has the resources to get this thing damn near perfect. And granted nothing is perfect, but at least be able to respond and provide a resolution.

I lucked out at my apple store, but I’ve heard unpleasant stories at other places.

I checked the website and my Apple Store doesn't have the phone that I got in stock. How would a replacement work if they don't have them? If they mailed it would I go without a phone?

Unfortunately you have to go on site to verify. My apple store showed 0 stock, but had a 512gb SB available to replace my phone, when I stopped in. Granted it wasn’t 1TB (my original phone), but 512 will suffice.

the stars were really aligned for me on that day!

but in my case I was prepared to hold onto the graphite phone and call it a day.

I have a 128gb starlight model. It shows that the only starlight model they have at the store is 512gb. Do you think they'd replace mine with that?

Sure… you would just pay the difference. Also are you in your 14 day window? If not you may need to force the issue of the warranty(?).

gotta go in with the attitude that the customer is always right!

Yeah I got this phone 2 days ago so I am in the return window.

Mine presents it but it is very little and is rarely seen.
I was in the topic to make you understand what it could be.

I don't change it for the simple reason that, mine has a perfect display, and after 4 iPhone 12 with yellow screen, and knowing that the same problem is also present on 13, I keep it tight.

There is no point in changing it, in the end it is tighter there and it will be less so elsewhere.

Posted in a similar thread…

Update:
I went to the apple store today to have a genius check out the gap… both he and apple support agreed that it was a defect in manufacturing and offered to replace it.
So I turned in my 1TB SB iPhone for a 512gb SB… it only took 5 hours (that’s a whole story!).. but I am happy since the replacement is PERFECT!!!!

I hit the Jackpot, 1 in 2 phone attempts!!

sooooooo if you dont give 2 ****s, then god bless you!!
BUT if you’re OCD like me , and the gap above the notch glares at you like the broad side of a barn, and are within your 14 day return window, don’t hesitate to try and replace it!!!
The gap is NOT fine…

New notch vs old notch:

Was your replacement a new model in an unopened box or a Genius Bar replacement?
