Here are two more photos. The silver components inside the phone are visible above the speaker.

Mines is not due here for a couple more weeks (launch day order, I can't believe it either), I am sure someone will be along shortly to give you a more definate answer.
Personally, I would take it to the store to get checked out. Have a look at the display models while you are there.

Mine doesn’t have that either. Either the paint is chipped off or it’s a defect on the speaker module that’s showing the bit of metal. Mine is all black.

It’s definitely a defect. I would probably return it. However, you won’t be able to get another for 4-5 weeks. I attempted to exchange mine for a different reason (the screen dims and goes black within 10 seconds- possibly sensor or software-related). They didn’t have any extra set aside for exchanges.

Okay I will do. I’m from South Africa and it came out yesterday. So there’s available stock of mine, so I should get a replacement in a couple of days.

Lucky you! After looking at it more, it could be glue. My old 11 pro max looks similar.

Hello,

I just received my iPhone 13 Pro Max today and it’s seems like there is a gap between the glass screen and the metal body and I can see a bit of the silver internal components. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I return? I am worried about any or moisture or dust getting in there. View attachment 1861113 View attachment 1861114

I don't have a 13 Pro, so I can't speak to that issue, but I'm very intrigued by the design of that Software Update page! That title is massive, I love it!

Is that a 13 thing?

I have a very small gap on mine too. Can only see it while looking for it in certain light. Not an issue in my opinion

Hey guys, just a quick question to any new iPhone 13 Pro owners like me:

Do you guys have what appears to be like the tiniest gap in between the top speaker and the steel band? It’s only visible at certain angles in the right light, but i’m worried that I may have received a dud with a broken waterproof seal that will need replacing. Check attached photos to see what I mean.

I appreciate any help, Thanks in advance
Just received my iPhone 13 Pro Max today. It seems like it’s the same. Don’t know if it is a defect? And if I should replace?

Posted in a similar thread…

Update:
I went to the apple store today to have a genius check out the gap… both he and apple support agreed that it was a defect in manufacturing and offered to replace it.
So I turned in my 1TB SB iPhone for a 512gb SB… it only took 5 hours (that’s a whole story!).. but I am happy since the replacement is PERFECT!!!!

I hit the Jackpot, 1 in 2 phone attempts!!

sooooooo if you dont give 2 ****s, then god bless you!!
BUT if you’re OCD like me , and the gap above the notch glares at you like the broad side of a barn, and are within your 14 day return window, don’t hesitate to try and replace it!!!
The gap is NOT fine…

New notch vs old notch:
