Well its all about decisions decisions. Right now Apple gives $790 for 12PM, so that makes upgrade to 13PM equal to +$300-$400. Well you could wait another year with 12PM, but then there is a guarantee that your market price and trade in value will take a hit... maybe by the same $300 amount. In the end you will upgrade to 14PM by spending the same amount like if you bought 12PM-13PM-14PM by using the trade-in. So in the end you spend the same $, but in one option you use every model and in the second scenario you upgrade only once? Seems like a no brainer.

So I think this year is an easy pass to anyone who has an iPhone XS/XR or newer because ngl I believe that next year the whole lineup will have ProMotion and better batteries… I think this year for Apple was a mehh and next year will be the ground-breaking announcement. Even the iPad mini (which I was really excited for btw) was a mehh considering the high price. I would much rather buy a regular maxed out iPad than the mini rn (only for the price)

The other day we were doin some research and we find out that the iPhone 12 mini has a bigger battery than the SE 2nd gen and I was really shocked…

tell me you thoughts below!
It depends on what you want from your purchase.

If you're a 12 owner, the only gain going to the 13 is battery life, and promotion if you go for the 13 Pro. Some people may not think that warrants an upgrade, others do.

If you're an 11 Pro owner going to a 13 Pro, you are gaining new design and promotion, and slightly better camera. Again, not really a big upgrade for some.

For Xs users, it's a big upgrade, especially in battery life and camera. For XR/11/older owners, going to the 13 is an even bigger upgrade as it gives OLED higher res screen, much better camera, new design, ultrawide for XR and older users, etc.

Every iPhone releases are never targeted towards the previous gen owners. Apple knows that people are keeping their phones longer and longer. So they are targeting 2, 3 generations, or even older iPhone users. Considering Apple is still supporting the 6s, it shows that Apple knows there are still many people using those older phones.

Imo the 13 by itself is a good release, ignoring the bugs from iOS15. Battery life is stellar, and it gives the 13 mini a more reasonable battery life. If I were in the market of a new iPhone, the 13 mini will definitely be on my list. The iPhone 13 is a much better well rounded product than the 12 (reduced battery, 5G hype).

I am super impressed with the 13 pro best iPhone to date for me and I have had everyone. Not saying because it’s a new year this one is a performer all around and can’t go wrong with one IMHO.
Same here (I'm on the upgrade program). Definitely a "wow" factor this year with the 120 Hz screen and macro camera mode.

My 78 year old granddad will be getting the 13 soon, I preordered it for him last week. He’s currently on a 6S so the 13 is going to blow his socks off! ?

They definitely aren’t.

The iPhone 13 PRO/PROMAX is a solid and relevant staple in the iPhone line up for sometime to come.

every once in a while Apple will give us a solid phone that’s worth keeping for 2-5 years.

This one is definitely one of them. The ProMotion display is something that will keep these phones “ feeling “ new.

this is how the Android Bois get away with keeping their phones for so long. The 120z refresh rate will not show you when your phone is lagging or being slow since it’ll be super fluid and fast for years to come.

the size of the screen, the text keys are nice and wide and perfectly spaced apart. Battery is huge and lasts all day.

I love this thing. Definitely will be keeping it for a few years.

Didn’t think it would be this noticeable on a smaller display, it’s actually more noticeable on my iPhone than my iPad Pro, I’m addicted, it had me at scrolling.

They weren’t lying. ?

I had a play with the 13 Pro and Pro Max in the Apple store in Bond Street yesterday, and Pro motion is very nice and fluid. Apple may have taken their time to implement it, but they done it right as usual. Graphite colour is stunning. The normal 13’s are mainly the battery upgrades and sensor shift camera lens, which may be considered boring, but solid updates. The midnight colour is really nice also.

I think they are very appropriately rated. If anything, they are what the 12 lineup should have been from the word go.

The “S” cycle is always the one to go for for people who don’t upgrade yearly.

Maybe I don't have very good eyes but I don't see or feel much of a difference between 120hz iphone and 60hz. I've tried it side by side at the same time with an older iphone and it seems very slightly different.

I am coming from a s21 5g and a 12 mini and I can honestly say the 13 pro I picked up is a great device.

It performs great with no issues at all. The screen is beautiful to look at for long periods of time with no eye strain at all. I highly recommend the new 13 pro series.

Agree with this 100%. The 13 Pros have the most important features I wanted in my 12 Pro, namely Promotion and a bigger battery. Could have waited, but I was already on a 5 year old 6s+... don't think it would have made it another year.
Same situation for me with my iPhone 6S+. I am really glad that I waited the extra year and got the 13 Pro Max. Fot me the 3 feature I wanted is ProMotion, battery life and camera improvements. The 13 Pro Max is fanatic.

They're "underwhelming" because the smartphone is a mature product now. Upgrades will be relatively minimal from here out, much like how a 2021 car model is usually only slightly different from its 2020 version. These phones are designed to be held on to for at least 2 years and realistically are good for double that or more.
This. Totally agree. There’s never major changes year over year with Apple in a a 3-4 year span. Major redesigns don’t come along that often nor should they. Other than removing the notch and adding TouchID, for which both features I could have or not and be totally fine, what else do people want out of these phones??

Cool to hear that from someone with a current high end Samsung. ? I don’t mean that in a bad way either. I just know the S21 is a great piece of hardware.

For me iPhone 13 is not missing anything (well maybe apart from USB-C which may not ever come).
And Midnight Green, but with some self-hypnotisation I could learn to live with the Sierra Blue.
Overall I'd say iP13 is underrated, it has everything we wanted from the last year's redesign, plus updated chip, cameras, battery. But journalists and tubers are never happy (negativity generates more clicks).

Totally agree with this. In my opinion, the 6S Plus/7 Plus embodied that as well. They aged well. The 13 Pro has plenty of RAM, CPU/GPU performance, Camera performance, and display tech to remain relevant for just as long as the 6S Plus/7 Plus did.

you forgot that 11pro going to 13pro gets 6 gigs of ram and qualcomm modem over the garbage intel

Perhaps on paper...but respectfully I think you have to have tried an iPhone 13 to truly gauge whether or not it's over-rated or not.

Not at all, I have upgraded my iPhone every year since my first iPhone in 2007. Every year brings something better, and this year I am very impressed with the battery life, camera and how good the 120hz screen really is during use. To me the upgrade has been worth it from my 12promax ?

I was massively anti iPhone 13 after the announcement but having used the 13 Pro since Friday, it’s strangely fun and nice to use.

i came from an iPhone 12 Pro and it’s definitely a better device in everyway and it’s a shame this wasn’t the 12 last year.

it’s of course an S upgrade but it’s just a pleasure to use.

I don’t think the 14 will have much more aside from a new design because Apple never go all out on both design and features in one year.

I disagree; the iPhone 13s are very good, and the iPhone 13 Pros are exceptional. Apple doesn't expect (and no sane person would expect) people to replace their phone every year, so the iPhone 13 isn't expected to be a compelling upgrade for iPhone 12 owners.
There's a huge, huge technological advancement (hardware and software) so referring to any of the releases as 'mehh' is just insulting and childish (same would go for Samsung and other manufacturers who make great devices as well).
