As long as Apple is using frosted glass on the Pros to differentiate them from the non-Pros, there won’t be any truly black or truly-dark-from-any-angle colors on the Pros. And Apple needs to use glass (or plastic) on both for MagSafe charging to work.
 
how is screen uniformity and tint? issues like the 13 pro's last year showing weird tint in the greys of settings in dark mode?

After spending some time with a demo model in store I wonder why Apple didn’t make you open the “preview” in Dynamic Island with a touch and opening the app with a hold. As much as they embrace the pill it just seems backwards at the moment. Very nice phone though and such a bright screen compared to iPhone 13 Pro Max even though I have a feeling the demo models runs some kind of special software to reach higher brightness.

I’d be happy with the MacBook Air’s midnight, if they can solve the fingerprint issue.

Initial first impression of the 14 Pro:

Way slippier than the XR. I need a case.
The CE logo etched into the band is very un-Apple
Always on screen is.. On. But I like it.

Sure. Both with 15x and both switched to telezoom.

iPhone 14 has less soft blur and not this extreme water color effect.

Already in love with the dynamic island... Got a phone call minutes after setting the phone up and it was so cool to see the UI for it while I continued jumping in and out of apps. The audio waveform / visualizer thing on the right side subtly shows which side of the conversation noise is coming from.

Definitely something to get used to in terms of placement etc, but they definitely nailed the software around it. Based on initial impressions.

Any abnormalities in the photos are from screen protector or camera

initial impressions are the display is beautiful and crisp! and no weird color gradient on grey in dark mode like we saw on many iPhone 13 pros.

I rocked up at 8am this morning and picked up my iPhone 14 Pro Max deep purple at the Apple Store in Sydney Australia. There was a long queue and big crowd and I had to wait 20 mins in line and another 10 in store

First impressions:
  • the deep purple is sexy AF. It appears grey in some lighting but turns purple under indoors and under sunlight. It’s more purple than shown in photos and reviews
  • The stainless steel band and camera model shimmer under the light and you can definitely tell it’s purple
  • The phone feels the same weight in the hands as 13 PM
  • The screen / display looks warmer / more yellow than the 13 PM display
  • Pill cut out sits lower than the notch and is noticeable when you look at the screen / watch videos. Will take some getting used to
  • Dynamic island - WOW was my first reaction. Animation is smooth and the bouncy pill cut out when you interact with it is a nice touch. Lots of first party usage already and can’t wait for live scores, Uber tracking and other third party apps to make use of it. Face ID appearing in the island and other status and running apps showing in the island are very well executed
  • The ability to tap the top of the notch to go back to the top of the page requires a more precise tap directly above the camera when the island is occupied by an app eg Apple Music.
  • AOD - not as bright as the reviewers say. Do wish we could change the wallpaper for the AOD, brightness and other settings. Maybe we’ll get it in an iOS update.
I also have the space black for my partner and it is definitely a much darker shade of black than space grey and graphite. A blend between graphite and matte black from the iPhone 7 days. But not as black as that on the space black stainless steel apple watch.

Just took delivery (pro max, space black, 256). Initial impressions…
  • Cameras. So big. It’s first thing you see after you open the box, and just… fills your vision.
  • Space black is… just the band. The back is a darker gray than space gray, but is not black by any stretch of the definition. It looks sharp, don’t get me wrong - just not black.
  • Feels about the same weight as my 12 Pro Max, which is a relief - I was worried about that.
  • Build quality continues to impress. Looks and feels legit premium.
  • Did I mention the cameras are big? I realize I won’t really be looking at it day to day, but wow. It’s really starting to look wrong, like a very large mag safe accessory that’s attached off center enough to feel off. All semblance of integration is gone. I can’t even imagine what this looks like on the regular pro. Or how big it’ll be by Pro 16.
Now that I’m done staring at the camera, time to turn it on :)

Hopefully they find a way to shrink them for the 15. It large enough that it looks out of place. Not aesthetically appealing at all. I said somewhere else that it looks like a Borg appendage. Like the thing they had in place of an eye. 😂

Or maybe they will add the periscope camera to get that crazy zoom and it will be even larger. Maybe they didn’t increase the zoom this year because they didn’t want it to take up the entire back of the phone.
