About 2 months ago my 13 pro max slipped out of my hand as I was getting out of the car at a gas station. I keep it in the Apple leather case compulsively. It bounced and landed face down on rough asphalt. Not a scratch! Still sold it for full value as mint condition. Only thing I would advise is that taking the phone out of the case frequently may loosen it and make it more likely to pop out a little and be less protected.

You're only going to have your phone a few years tops before you upgrade, so who cares if it gets some scratches? This isn't a keepsake that you're trying to protect for the next 20 years. Go naked and enjoy it
I've always just used a vinyl skin for a little grip, and that's it.

I love the thin, and sleek design of my gadgets, and have never had any issues beyond a few scratches on the screen; which I'm perfectly fine with , given they're small and there aren't many at all.

To each their own, but I've always viewed putting a big case on a phone as being akin to putting a plastic cover on a couch, or leaving a fancy car in the garage. You bought it, enjoy it!

Anyone actually scuff the back lenses? I wonder how hard that material is. I use a case since my phone slides around on my desks.

Aesthetics play into my purchase decision, so I'd like to see the work gone into the design and my colour choice. No screen protector either because of the slight lip it adds. Was trying to angle the light on my launch 13 mini to look for any scratches, couldn't find any.

Generally I change phones after one year, but I enjoy them without anything covering them, so I'm not going to hinder my experience just to keep it pristine for the next owner.

If you have AppleCare+ I don't see why you'd need a case anyways! :)

Because Apple do not cover cosmetics damages.
I would hate myself to see my brand new iPhone 14 PM get scratched when it falls on the concrete or something in those lines. Screen or back might not be broken but it will leave a nasty scratch on the body of the phone. And i just can’t stand scratches on my devices.

Already dropped mine getting out of the car last week smh. apple care saved me and the phones so new they can’t do repairs yet so I got a whole unit swap for my $30 display damage deductible.

I've been rocking my iPhones careless for years. my iPhone 13 Pro looks flawless after a year, I wonder if they did something the the stainless steel this time around.

Just avoid letting the stainless steel touch any metal. My iPhone 12 Pro gently touched my Magic Keyboard for Mac and it left a gnarly scratch blob on the frame.

iPhone 13 Pro had a scratch on it, thankfully it wasn't those scratches that distorts the light from the display. And I can barely see it unless in the bright outdoors.

Do they make any kind of clear film that you can put on an iPhone to protect it from scratches? I have the silicone case for my new Pro Max but the thing that I'm finding is that this phone is one heavy slab of a phone. With the case and a screen protector, it weighs in at 286 grams. That's 39 grams more than my old phone and while that doesn't seem like a lot, the top heaviness of it because of the camera appendage makes it somewhat awkward to hold. And my old phone had a bigger screen. It's making me wish that I'd gone with the Pro. The only issue I'd have with the pro is that I'm used to big screens now.

Anyway, I want to protect the phone from scratches. I'm not too worried about dropping it. But the case and the screen protector I'm using weigh an additional 40 grams. It would be nice to reduce the bulk a bit.

My dad makes me use a case on my XS even though I haven’t dropped or scratched my iPhones in years (last time was the 4S) :(

3M and a few other brands make clear paint protection film for cars that works great for an iPhone. Zagg and BestSkinsEver (out of business now, I think) used to sell kit where they precision cut it for you. Check Amazon and Etsy. You could even buy an uncut sheet and cut it yourself (or get a car film installer to do it for you).

I've been on and off, but off since buying 13PM last year. No case, no AC+, and I intend to make it through this next year, if not more. I don't baby my iPhone either, I just found I don't have the lifestyle that involves beating up my belongings. No AC+ on my MBP either. I got AC+ on my wife's iPad, as well as for both of our watches. But that's it anymore, the watches are a no brainer to me, and she's prone to breaking things.

I go caseless on my 12 Pro Max and it’s been fine. Oddly, I seemed to drop it a lot more when I had a case on it.

It’s had a couple of falls over the last couple of years, but I’ve never scratched or cracked the glass. The silver stainless frame has some scratches, which I can and have polished out. Honestly, though, I no longer obsess over every hairline scratch on it nor my stainless watch. Plus, AppleCare+ would cover anything catastrophic.

Not really the target audience for this thread as I do use a case, but I use a Pitaka mag case which is about as thin as you can get. I love how it doesn’t bulk up the phone, leaves the buttons exposed and the top and bottom are open so no case lip affecting gestures. But the case itself adds grip and I actually prefer the feel in hand with it on rather than off

Been caseless and screen protectorless since the XS. I don’t drop it too often. Although I will never go caseless with a silver iPhone. Those stainless sides are unforgiving. I’d be using a case if I didn’t have AppleCare. It’s nice to have to be able to fully enjoy the phone in its full nakedness
On the flip side. The silver is the most forgiving most scratches are gonna be superficial and add to the patina. If they bug someone too much they can also be buffed out. The colored iPhones and watches. Not so much.
