I always used a case and screen protector with all my iPhones, one day i decided to not use the case on my XS Max at the time and dropped it and the back shattered.
Didn’t have Apple Care and Apple wanted 800$ CAD to fix the back of the phone.
I love using my iPhone caseless but this exact same scenario happened to me.

I've never cracked or broken an iPhone in my life (had them all since the original) and I decided to go caseless with a XS Max only to accidentally shatter the back glass on a hardwood floor when I picked up my coat from a chair and my iPhone was in one of the pockets.

Paying $600 to Apple was brutal and I wasn't too thrilled about it. At least I got a 'new' iPhone with a brand new battery and everything. Still... not very fun.

How many days were you without a phone? Besides $$$ hit, it's being without a phone that hurts.

Oh, I'm within driving distance of two Apple stores so I got my iphone swapped that same day, thankfully. Except it was a packed store, lots of people during COVID waiting in line, etc.

Did you send yours in via mail with Apple?

So far haven’t needed my phone replaced. Big reason I got a case was the perceived hassle of being without a phone for days since we need our phones for 2FA, and I suppose phone calls. We can still receive texts without a phone, but what happens now with e SIMs? In the old days we could take out the physical SIM and put in another phone and be up and running in minutes.

I know as soon as I would decide to go naked - That's when it will slip/fall and hit the ground - For that reason it stays inside a case. The back glass is way too slippery - you're just asking for trouble, imo

I wanna go caseless too (but with screen protector of course) - but what kind of good camera protection can you recommend?

Most of the times I don’t. If I have to then I look for something softer to put it on top of. There’s always something around that one can use in most cases.
My cased iPhone 13 had micro scratches on the rear camera lens … I usually place my phones down with the scree side up.

Every year I say I will, then I don’t. I throw a case and SP on it.

Guess that’s why I started getting the silver model. With a dark case some still pops through. Especially the lenses. 👊😝👍

I get AppleCare for worst case scenario. But since I usually update every year, if I can go without using it, I get money back for the time not used.

I refuse to go caseless. My phones are always in cases before they even leave the store. But, then, I have a problem with dropping things. I have a condition called Tardive Dyskinesia which is a movement disorder. Sometimes causes my hands to twitch and drop things. I dont like to leave it to chance so I always use a case and a good screen protector. This way, my cases often end up with plenty of scuff marks from drops, but the last 3 phones at least have come out of their cases in pristine condition.

Show us how the phone looks now with that combination.

You're only going to have your phone a few years tops before you upgrade, so who cares if it gets some scratches? This isn't a keepsake that you're trying to protect for the next 20 years. Go naked and enjoy it
True but it is something I'm trying to protect for the next few years...
Whilst I own and use a gadget I want to keep it mint.

What screen protector you using? I got the spigen but ended up tossing it. The oleophobic coating was terrible.
If you like anti glare then this is the best glass screen protector you can get. It’s awesome. I love the way I can see my iPhone screen in any lighting conditions without the harsh reflections from the glossy screen. It’s ultra smooth as well & doesn’t degrade the display sharpness. This is for the 14 pro max, you can search for the pro if that’s what you use.

why, as you have to pay a excess so not free, I live 6 hour drive from a apple store so would be a week before I got a replacement, there's your why lol
The excess fee isn't that much compared to a new iPhone, and surely you could use the Express Replacement option and get one delivered the next day?

I wouldn't carry my iPhone across my living room without a case.

I treat my phones rough. I trail run with them, hike, camp, work in a hospital where I'm literally always on my feet and running around with wet hands, use it in my garage when I'm tinkering, etc. etc. Cases and screen protectors are cheap insurance..I don't care how it looks. Durability > aesthetics. Oh yea, I always lay my phone screen down so I want a case with a raised lip.

I also tend to keep my phones for years.

Not a whole lot to show. But since I sit it face down majority of the time I get to see a lil white. And, yes, I like the massive Minion eyes popping out.

👊😬👍

I have gone ceaseless and have a soigné screen protector on the screen and a glass protector on the back. Don’t miss the leather case at all so far.

Caseless and screen protector less and I do not regret it. I really use my phones and don't really care if it gets some scratches. For if/when it breaks, I got AC+

A case is cheaper than AppleCare.

In addition, the 12, 13 and 14 are uncomfortable to hold without a case.

I value experience over a few bucks, so it is the better solution for me.
I personally haven't found 13P or 14P uncomfortable to hold without a case, so it is again, another case of personal values.

How does the money from Apple care plus work ? In regards to getting it back that is.
