It’s going to be the most boring and lackluster keynote ever. The iPhone is mature now. A capture button is gimmicky and mocking imo. The AVP didn’t take off. Apple Car got cancelled. They totally missed the AI boat because they were 😴. We need a new kid on the block. Anyway, I’m going to rock my 14 Pro until it dies of natural causes ✌️

Does Apple have a folding phone? Stylus? Camera (stills) is not the best out there. Quick charging? Expandable storage? Free/more cloud storage? Took some arm twisting to get Apple to switch to usb c. Hopefully the justice dept or the eu can nudge Apple towards a more competitive direction.

Apple non pro is priced at some flagship phones and is definitely not competitive. Siri is ****** bad. Android os is generally much better at AI especially at photo editing for the average users.
It’s disgusting that you think government should be deciding the design of a private sector product. Truly disgusting.

You're upgrading to a 16 from a 15PM? That's unusual.

This article isn't about the Pro or Pro Max line.

Not unusual at all, in general. Only what appears on this forum as it's an opportunity for many to rag on Apple about how lame they *believe* the update is.

Yes... you are correct this article is not about the P/M line. I believe people already know that.

That's fair.

If I do upgrade my 13 Pro (big if), I might go for the regular 16.

If you do upgrade, and like to make photos, one thing (of many) you'll appreciate is the lens flare issue will be gone. That used to irritate me so much as it ruins a lot of potentially good photos.

Things have certainly become boring these days on the updates of phones, computers and wearables [AVP excepted]
So much mature tech around with minor iterations.
I won't be upgrading my 14pro it appears for sometime yet.

I feel like my 14 is still more than enough for my needs despite the nice additions newer models are offering - no need to upgrade, I'll make this one last a third year and see how it goes next year.

After over a year of reports, there are now 20 specific rumors about the features and improvements set to be offered by the two non-Pro iPhone 16 models upon their announcement next week.

iPhone-14-vs-16-Feature.jpg

While the upgrades that the iPhone 16 offers over the iPhone 15 will likely be at the center of Apple's marketing strategy later this year, many users are on two-year upgrade cycles, so the features introduced on both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 will stack up. All of the changes the iPhone 16 models are expected to feature compared to their two direct forerunners are listed below, using information from a range of reliable sources that we have previously covered, here on MacRumors. We will continue to update this article as more rumors emerge prior to Apple's "It's Glowtime" event on Monday, September 9.

This guide focuses on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16, but to learn about how we are expecting the iPhone 14 Pro to improve on the iPhone 16 Pro, see our other comparison article.

Design

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to largely carry over the design of their predecessors. As a result, the iPhone 16 will be a relatively significant evolution over the ‌iPhone 14‌, featuring slightly rounded edges, a frosted glass back, and a vertical rear camera arrangement to facilitate spatial video capture. Other important design changes are expected to include the removal of the mute switch in favor of the Action button introduced on last year's Pro models and the introduction of an all-new "Capture" button.

Displays

For iPhone 14 users, the iPhone 16 will offer many of the display upgrades that came to the previous generation, as well as a more efficient OLED panel thanks to micro-lens technology.

Cameras

The iPhone 15 introduced a major camera upgrade for Apple's standard smartphone lineup, bringing over the 48-megapixel camera of the iPhone 14 Pro. With a number of other improvements such as spatial video capture, the iPhone 16 should be a significant camera upgrade over the iPhone 14.

Chip, Memory, and Connectivity

With the iPhone 16 models rumored to receive the same A18 chip as the Pro models to support Apple Intelligence, the new models could offer a major performance improvement over the iPhone 14, which features the A15 Bionic chip first introduced in 2021. The 2GB of additional memory and the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip are also due to be notable upgrades.

Batteries and Charging

The iPhone 16 models could receive some major improvements in battery technology and charging, sporting denser batteries and faster charging capabilities. It is worth noting that the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to feature a smaller battery than its predecessors, but it is not clear how this will affect actual battery life.

Why not make an iPhone 15 Pro Max vs. iPhone 16 Pro Max? I don't think it will be too different

Why say this is a significant upgrade when it clearly is not. I for one tire of apple attempting to fleece the comsumer with non upgrades. If i weren't so entrenched in their ecosysyem I would leave, just as i did years ago. Where is the innovation and new designs? I'm seriously contemplating.

I'm still using a 12 mini (and my wife an XR). Neither of us feel a strong need to get the latest. I'm actually somewhat interested in getting a larger phone just because I make lots of typos on my mini and I think I'd do better with a little more keyboard real estate (though I use gesture typing and no autocorrect, so who knows).

I also dislike the subtle fisheye effect on photos on the 12 Mini (warped heads if they're in the corners). The software fixes for this issue are clearly not succeeding. And I don't have much hope that it's resolved on newer phones, given that the 1x camera is still a wide angle.

Might wait for 17 just for that 120hz.

The genius of the ecosystem in so many ways..... I am glad there is little shift in the hardware as I remain content with what I have, which is quite unique for me in technology terms so I should appreciate it whilst I can. No doubt something will be announced in the next year or so, which will make me a day 1 buyer again.

I'm tempted to upgrade because while I usually use a designated camera, I find the iPhone 14 I have to be disappointing for those quick shots. However, it is nice to only pay for service 😂

I hear about this phone the more I can’t wait to not buy the iPhone 12SSSS.

Cmon Apple.Your competitors are producing things like look like they were pulled from star trek or total recall.

While we’re essentially buying the same phone you put out 4 years ago.

To those who pointed out that it is actually a 33% rather than 25% increase when wireless charging power goes from 15 to 20W: You cannot simply base this on pure math — you must factor in the iPhone model number, then you do indeed get 25% (rounded to nearest integer):

- multiply 15W by 20W for WTotal =WT
- multiply 14 by 16 for ModelTotal = MT
- subtract MT from WT for WGain = WG
- divide WG by WT for increase %
😊

Never understood the bragging about the higher display brightness. When you need it to be that bright a.k.a. when you're out in the sun, it gets warm in exactly 10 seconds and that instantly throttles the display to a very low brightness. Used to have an iPhone 13 and now have a 15 which has almost twice the peak brightness on paper but in reality there is zero difference - they throttle to about the same.

If I felt as you do now, I'd leave asap and go with an Apple competitor that offers a superior phone and ecosystem.

Why wait?

Why wait?
In my case, I switched to iOS about 8 years ago purely because I was the only Android on my family group text thread, and I was responsible for degrading the quality of the shared pics/vids. I had to switch to make them happy. I’m stuck unless they move to whatsapp, but unfortunately that’s too much to ask.
