This is weird... I am currently on a 1.5 hour call, battery life went down 2% and phone is cool to the touch, not even any hint of warmth.

I wonder why this experience is so varied between different people.

No heat issues since the re-install. Was streaming audio and some video for hours today with no heat problems and good battery life. Still avoiding YouTube since I suspect that was the buggy software in my case, it will be interesting to see what Apple details with their patch.
Thanks for the update. I’ve personally not had any issues with streaming etc. I use YouTube app all the time, just gets hot on phone calls and drains battery, and it does seem a bit warmer when charging, not hot though.

Well, got my phone replacement. Did the transfer from my old 15 Pro to the new one. Issue still persists, overheats and drains battery while on a phone call. iOS 17.0.2.

Darn, but unless setting up as new, I guess that’s to be expected, Apple did acknowledge it’s a bug in iOS 17. Hope they release the update this week.

I saw them acknowledge the bug, but I didn’t see them acknowledge anything about heating up during a phone call. That’s what worries me. You haven’t had any of those issues since your clean install?

In my example, I made sure to uninstall instagram prior to me getting the new phone.

I am seeing reports everywhere about the phone getting hot under various circumstances, mine is during phone calls, happens quickly most heat felt in same place as everyone else, near the volume up and down and action button, but whole phone gets hot, and I do mean HOT, and it burns through battery life rapidly.
Is anyone else getting heat under this circumstance and have you found a solution, not sure why the processor would work so hard during a phone call.
I have not experienced the heat issue during phone calls. If you experience this frequently, it is time to report it to Apple Support Team. Wish the best for getting your issue fixed!

I’m not confident they will fully address it either. I have yet to do a clean install, as it is going to be a huge pain, so I am going to try to hang in there a bit longer for the update to see what it actually fixes.

Welp, no 17.0.3, which is pretty suspect, when Apple claims to have isolated a bug, especially one negatively impacting customers to this degree (pun intended) enough so in fact that an immediate press release goes out on a weekend, we almost certainly could expect a quick update the first of the week. It didn’t arrive, which makes me wonder, was the press release more about damage control while they try to figure out how to actually contain this widespread issue? They have the ability to quickly push small patches, and they did not do it. Waiting to release such an impactful bug fix along with a feature release update like 17.1, that goes through a longer beta cycle would not be the best course of action, as many of us cannot make phone calls on a device with the word phone in its name.

Hello,
I am a French user.
I've had the iPhone 15 Pro since September 22, 2023.
I transferred my old iPhone to the new one.
I disabled background refresh for all apps.
I disabled the always-on screen.
My iPhone randomly heats up and drains the battery during phone calls and Skype calls.
I restart the iPhone and sometimes everything goes well, without heating or losing battery.
When everything goes well, I say to myself: “That’s it, it’s good, my iPhone is finally calibrated”. But some time later, the problem returned.
I know Apple has identified an issue but I wanted to share my experience with you.
I'm living with the problem but would like to have the fix quickly.
Regards,
chbjd

Is not just iPhone 15 where problem with battery and heat issue appear, I even manage to get message charging on hold due to iPhone temperature. First time in 3 years I got that. But phone wasn’t even warm. There is a bug somewhere that effects phones and is to do with cellular network. Is not isolated to iPhone 15.

I can report after updating to iOS 17.0.3 I have not had the overheating issues while making a few calls today. I will update again if this turns out to be intermittent and the overheating returns. 😅

Same buddy, same. Only one 25 minute call, but so far so good.

I’ve only experienced overheating issues with my OtterBox MagSafe battery packs.
Ive haven’t experienced it with the OtterBox MagSafe stand yet or Apple MagSafe Charger yet but I haven’t looked for it I like the OtterBox Batteries and use them often.

No issues with a usba to USBc connector haven’t tried USBc to USBc yet.

I always have zoom call my phone during meetings and it get hot at all. I don't think it barely gets warm during the hour long call. It's an 1tb version of the promax in blue. The only time it got hot when I setup the phone and had everything downloaded from icloud.
