I may be ready for a new phone by the time the 15 comes out. I went from 6 to 10, then to 12. I probably won’t upgrade if USB-C isn’t included. My iPad, Fire pad, and everything else is moving or has moved to USB-C. Wish Eufi would move their cameras to USB-C so that I can think about dumping mini-USB, micro-USB, Lightning, and anything else that’s not USB-C and is on its last leg.

does anyone know if the pro or max will be any lighter due to titanium or not because the battery maybe larger? I am REALLY hopeful for something lighter (every time I hold a google or ultra I am envious a bit) due to form factor and weight..

Whatever the decision, the phone is already manufactured so no point whinging. With eSim the world will continue and telcos will all move forward with eSim. Apple seems the only one able to encourage telcos to future proof. Esims are absolutely the way forward. Apple is clearly trying to seal up the phone and the tray is simply another gap that needs to go.

Eventually you will have to buy a Sim free phone, if you want a newer iPhone.
Apple doing this doesn’t magically make more countries and carriers adopt eSIM. And it only benefits carriers as it ensures expensive international roaming fees. It’s literally about money. If everyone adopted the technology, that doesn’t even help when many countries have to go take a passport to a shop and jump through hoops to get the eSIM. At True in Thailand, had to go to a physical store to install the eSIM. Now they have eSIM available but how is that helping iPhone in America buyers where Apple looks out for carriers first. I noticed also that Apple says on its website that starting August 15th, iPhones bought on Apple Card for zero percent financing must be activated on one of the big three carriers.

Yes yes eSIMs are the future, but Apple *will* lose sales in Europe if they drop physical SIMs this year. It would be a bad business decision.

All I need from my provider is a few gigabytes of data, plus the ability to make/receive occasional calls and texts. This costs a few euros prepaid. I don't want to go through the hassle of moving my phone number to another provider, and I really don't want to pay more just for an eSIM.

I'm upgrading to this just for the USB-C port. I'll also upgrade my wife's phone. No more lightning cables!
I do not understand. My iPhone 14 Pro has literally never been plugged in; not once. Magnetic induction charging works like a charm. When I sit the iP down on my desk or my nightstand or in my car it just charges, easy-peasy. I could care less what the i/o port is (for all I know it may not even work...). And when I travel I just bring an induction charging device.

What happens if you need to charge the phone relatively quickly? Apple's wired charging is slow as malasses, wireless charging is 4 times worse.

No. The fact that most users should get more RAM does not mean that Apple should not continue to make the low end RAM available for that segment that only needs the lowest end.

IMO most folks asking for more base RAM in laptops really just mean that they want more RAM for same or less money.

For me, it's about better longevity. More base RAM should also mean that Apple will be able to support it with OS updates for longer, so it will positively affect those of us who buy more than the base memory as well.

I don't use the lighting port never on the 14-iPhone pro max. I covered the lighting port with a silicone plug. I only have a Mag-safe charging pad and a Mag-safe battery. I care less about the USB C port. Frankly speaking, USB-c is not needed. When I get a new iPhone in a few years it be selling them port less.

The minimal changes every year just becomes less and less of a reason to upgrade.
I can't imagine buying a phone to "upgrade" - that's just a silly marketing construct. You buy a new phone when you need a new phone, not because of the latest features. Just like with cars. They may introduce new features and options every year, but you buy a new one every 4 years or so, just like with phones. I think the idea that people are looking for compelling new features in a phone to justify buying one every year is absurd.

I upgraded from the 12PM to the 14PM specifically because I wanted to avoid USB-C on the iPhone until I upgrade to the iPhone 16 or 17 on a 2 to 3 year cycle. This will allow me to squeeze the last out of my litany of Lightning cables, etc. before having to transition.

Actually, LiDAR is not useless; study up. And what do you care anyway when you fail to grasp what LiDAR does?

I’ve tried taking pics while covering it up and my phone focuses just as good.

Name another phone that uses lidar, and explain why many android phones take better pics than an iPhone, without lidar, and tell me it’s useful.

Useless. Apple could use the space and money to give us better sensors instead.

I’d say you are wrong in both things, I buy a new phone or a car when the new features are fun or useful enough to warrant the extra cost of upgrading.

I still hope Apple would release Mini version at least once every 3 years or so. Now that we're moving to 3nm, the battery life should be improved further, which was the biggest problem with the Mini.

Maybe next SE will be based on Mini design.
