Pretty sure I read on DailyMail that 15/15 Plus won’t get iOS 18, it sounds as though whoever wrote the article has not got a single clue of what they are talking about, I saw the article on Facebook and was simply blown away at the sheer amount of misinformation.

Anyway, it is sad that the 15/15 Plus are going to miss out on Apple Intelligence, but it is no surprise given that they use the previous year’s Pro iPhones hardware they were bound to be held back, but it is surprising Apple didn’t even try do an Apple Intelligence Lite of some sort that may do things more off-device/in the cloud versus On-device on Pro devices that have the hardware to handle that.

Annoying to read this when I just upgraded to an iPhone 15 (base model, in late July) from an 11! (With $200 off - I guess the base 16 will be more expensive?) The 15 is still a noticeable upgrade for me, though.

Stop! Your iPhone 15 will NOT be obsolete! In fact, you’ll be happier without AI for the first few years.

As rumors about the iPhone 16 start to heat up, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness (okay, maybe more than just a twinge) about my iPhone 15. It feels like just yesterday I was unboxing it, admiring the sleek design, and marveling at the new features. Now, with the iPhone 16 on the horizon, boasting what sound like some significant upgrades—rumored to include a faster A18 chip, an even better camera system, and that new titanium frame—I'm starting to feel that familiar pang of obsolescence creeping in.

I know tech moves fast, and it’s the nature of the game. But it’s still tough when your shiny, almost-new device is seemingly about to get outshined by the next big thing. I’m curious—how are others feeling about this? Are you planning to upgrade, or are you sticking with your iPhone 15 for a while? How do you cope with the constant cycle of new releases making our current devices feel old?

Would love to hear your thoughts and strategies for dealing with this yearly dilemma!

I doubt the iPhone 15 will become obsolete in September, but maybe q2 next year if the SE4 is being released.
The only phone or phones that might become obsolete after the event is the 13 and maybe the 14.

Unless the rumors of the SE 4 having the same guts as the iPhone 16 are wrong, and not being capable of running Apple Intelligence.

I cannot see AAPL positioning a 'Budget' device well-ahead of the capability of mainline devices.

You mean you don’t think it will support Apple Intelligence?

I neither have any idea what Apple Intelligence is, nor what support such a thing may have.

I'm just convinced that AAPL would not forsake a Last-Year Release gaining new features in favour of a budget-minded item gaining more.

It's not like it's the same thing every year for the last 16 years...
With time you just accept that tech keep getting better each years and either you accept it or you buy new stuff all the time.

Also you take a step back and remind yourself that it's just a phone. Your life is not gonna change suddenly because a new phone just released.

These days I usually actually miss the phone I trade up from more than I love the new phone.

I think the reason for this is that the older phone has had a year of software updates which have made it feel pretty ‘sorted’ and solid/stable. The new release usually has bugs - remember the overheating problem with 15 Pros for example.

iPhones all the way back to XS and XR are confirmed to get iOS 18. So unless we go by very funky definitions iPhone 13 is nowhere near obsolete. Especially as iOS 17 will continue to work just fine too

Obsolete as in not being produced or sold/offered as new devices from Apple.

I think the iPhone 15 will go down as one of the worst iPhones of all time (certainly in terms of value). Was really short sighted of Apple (or deliberate planned obsolescence)to not have it support Apple Intelligence

Since regular 16 will look like a kid’s toy, 15 owners have nothing to worry about. Back in the days when I owned 5 I had waited until 6s to make upgrade. And waiting for it was never like “uh oh my phone will be obsolete”.

Because well, 5s wasn’t that huge leap in terms of performance in case of processor, even tho it was first 64bit ARM in a mobile phone, camera was pretty much the same and even worse as some suggested (just a slightly modified sensor).

The next iPhone 6 was a big pile of… flop. It looked like a soap, and I never liked the design. My 5 aged so well until iPhone 12 lol. Then came the 6s and I had to upgrade because I wanted more storage (16 to 64gb), “better” (I thought so) 12mp camera and maybe more thick design thanks to new aluminum alloy. In fact the second I opened a box with a phone I felt… underwhelmed. It never felt like opening an iPhone but more like a “just phone”.

But my issues didn’t end there. It came defective from the factory and battery never held more than 4 hours and when weather was cold it shut off itself without any warnings or so. This was the moment I discovered Apple’s genius throttling system that as we know landed them in courts in future.

And really. Now I feel like I am not sure if I want to jump ship from my SE3 to something else. I was thinking about 15 or even 15 pro but there are currently so many downsides as many phones have overheating issues, camera is not that good as marketing claims it is, as well as my current phone does everything I need. I hope 16 pro will have better thermals and at least some camera upgrades worth the upgrade, or else I am holding up for 17 or even 18

Barely a single thing about iPhone 15/15 Plus that’s going to be “old” post iPhones 16 announcement.

Only thing that’s going to be a big difference between 15/15 Plus and 16/16 Plus is Apple arbitrarily(?) giving the latter iOS 18 with AI and the former getting iOS 18 but without AI.

The core of iPhone 16, the SoC, is not going to see a noticeable upgrade. At least no more than what we saw from 14 to 15.

If the rumors are true, it’s really just going to be an increase in RAM from 6GB to 8GB that allows for AI on iPhones 16.

The tech news cycle is getting to you if there’s no sarcasm in this post.

I mean, even without AI, iPhones 15 will get full iOS upgrades for years and years.
