5G has been the biggest dud in recent tech memory. I'm not saying it's not an improvement, but it was marketed as a game changer and it certainly doesn't seem to have lived up to that billing.

When it works and in good coverage it’s very good.

Mobile data speeds is any area of tech I actually think needs to slow down rather than constantly evolving. They’re already talking 6G and 5G isn’t even hit full stride yet.

They need to get 100% coverage of the country with close to full signal everywhere before they even think about looking to the next gen. It’s actually really annoying.

I’ll stick with LTE, thanks.

Yeah the FirstNet(AT&T) 5G where I'm at I've got up to 200 one time on a speed test most of the time it'll say 5G and you only get basic LTE speeds at around 45.
Now my iPad mini 6 cellular on TMo speed test have hit 800.

I upgraded from an X but at least my LTE is more solid indoors. Used to on my X at the gym towards the back it would just sit there and spin when I tried streaming music or sports talk. Now on the 15 I can pull up my Spectrum app and stream college football while I work out if the gym doesn't have it on the tv.
I wish I was getting 40. On AT&T I would frequently get under 10. I live in a city of over 300,000. On T-Mobile I get at least 15 at worst and frequently 300 or more.

No one is wondering what the hell they mean when they say, “5G Advanced will include artificial intelligence and machine learning…” like what does that even mean. AI AND ML, I’m not understanding, is it more complex than an algorithm to aggregate? AI has truly become a buzzword and can mean many different things it seems.

Absolutely hilarious. I was wondering if the conspiracy theory cultists would come up with something sinister about the recent national alert test. And I wasn’t disappointed.
Waiting for the next to chime in, claiming the first was an AI bot😂

More power efficient so that apple can make the A18 chip heat up the phone twice as quickly now and blame it on "apps."

You haven't been paying attention. On average, US mobile telecom CEO pay is up 275% since 2019, a major game changer to the super yacht industry.

You made the mistake of thinking that 5G was about you.

I still don’t have consistent 5G service where I live. The next gen is useless if the carriers can’t be bothered to build out their existing networks.

That’s a bit of an overstatement. I agree the first year on att and Verizon, we didn’t see a whole lot of improvement. T-mobile was ahead due to deployment of their n41 band from acquiring sprint. But just 2-3 months ago att and Verizon got access to their entire midband spectrum and speeds have gone from 150-180 at best to 500-800 down on average. I actually achieved 2.3gbs download speed on Verizon c-band not long ago. Many areas easily exceed 1gb down. I haven’t even mentioned mmWave which reaches 4+gbs down. So to say 5G was a dud would be an inaccurate statement based on facts. Perhaps you’re in a bad rural area then your point is valid but for a huge % of the country speeds are exponentially faster. And they will improve in rural areas, it takes time.

And to those who point out the speeds Ive described are pointless; for 1 single customer that’s somewhat true, but what those speeds represent is capacity. Data usage increases by a large % every year. So increasing capacity is exactly what we need.
Why do you need 4gbs speed on mobile phone ? what would you do with it ?

Not only that but the latency of 5G is a LOT lower than LTE so more users can get data in a given timeframe than before. 5G feels faster than LTE because it is.

I’m hoping the iPhone 16 Pros will also include WiFi 7! 🤞🏻

I hotspotted my laptop to my iPhone 13 Pro Max on Tmobile and was getting 400Mb download speeds. Depends on your area. *edit* Mb not MB

5G in asia and europe is pretty fast, i regularly get 100mbps when i travel, but here in nyc verizon 5g feels more like 4g.
I’m in NYC and I can get 200 to 400 Mbps downloads. I just now ran Speedtest. 220 Mbps download. Are you on c-band, 5Guw?

Yay too be able to get 5GB speeds when stood right under a super mast!...
Which will be totally useless on a phone.

Where I live in rural England UK I get one provider who does 5G, max speeds I can get are around 260mbps, and their signal doesn't work well at all indoors in ground level.
The next best provider gives me 4G just about and 3G, but if I drive to my nearest town they have masts where if I am stood under them I can get 1.2GBPS.
It is crazy.
No, right under a mast you won't have ant coverage, not even with 4G ( unless ofc you have overlap from a transiver in another nearby mast) something to to with the way the antennas are shaped, due to the fact that there aren't supposed to be anyone under the mast/tower. But I might just be taking your use of under a bit to literally
