If this rumour is true, then it might explain a previous rumour that there are no new macs coming this year. Because they will need to redesign and test the mac A17 versions again for the new nodes, which takes at least a year.

This actually means that the standard iPhone 16 model would be of lesser value comparable to the value provided by iPhone 15, at least in terms of performance:
Today, the iPhone 15, features the CPU of last years flagship, the iPhone 14 Pro. Next year, the iPhone 16, will feature a lesser version of today's flagship CPU. So not sure how it validates your decision.
He doesn't care about that. He's *so* mad that he wanted the latest iPhone he couldn't get.

There's more to the SoC than just the CPU. The GPU is supposedly a significant design change. The neural engine is also faster, I believe.

And, even for the CPU: we don't really know yet about the e-cores. Those might be either more efficient or faster.
The e cores are faster and more efficient, doesn't change the fact that the two prime cores are compromised, draw more power and are only faster because of increased clock speeds 😏

They know the sales of the 15/15Pro this year will be down. They are running ads in record numbers to try and sell what is having a lackluster start. This year the variants, call it iPhone 14S or iPhone 14 Lite (weighs less) is simply not the 15 that was expected.

When Apple announced A17 Pro. I realized they are going to make two different chips to differentiate iPhone models.
I mean next year iPhone 16 won’t simply have the same chip as current iPhone 15 Pro.

don’t think that Apple will give you usb 3.0 speed because they are going to put current iPhone 15 Pro chip in iPhone 16.

Next year iPhone 16 will have a regular A17 chip without Pro features.

Or might use the same A17 Pro chip but disable some features and name it A17

I hope you're right (I posted last week) they'll probably sell 20 mil units less intros cycle, Apple is well overdue a painful lesson, this is the second year they're taking the pee with the upgrades, all optics zero substance 😡

That is just some new Apple BS. In the past the standard and the pro model even had the same chip. Then Apple delayed the most recent chips for the standard model for a full year. So from now on, not even waiting a year will get you the same chip as last year's pro model.
The Macs and iPads have different “chips” so differentiating iPhones should have been expected.

Apple should be more worried about the relatively poor A17 Pro....a big disappointment to say the least and don't give me the 20% better performance on the efficiency cores, the high performance cores are only faster because of higher clock speeds and they are less efficient, and don't get me started on the heat dissipation issues for power users 😏
The N3B process apparently isn't that great, which is why Apple is switching to N3E.

I can see a day when Timmy goes into the Apple garden, puts his hands together to pray with us, and tells us regretfully that Moore's Law is over.

N3E it's cheaper and better in general - efficiency/performance. Just less dense, but you can make a little bigger chip to offset that.
...

And playing the "stitch a few different rumours together" game - if maybe next year is when Apple gets rid of the physical SIM slots worldwide rather than just in the USA it might end up with a bit of extra PCB space to play with if the SoC package size increases.

Some bean counters at Apple are probably wishing they had not bought the entire run of N3B. At some publicly unannounced time in the not so distant future, they will have used up that inventory and the production will continue with the "lessor" product? After that point in time, one would suppose if a N3B phone "died" it would be replaced with one with the lessor CPU.

That is another reason we are sitting out this year on iPhones and Watches.

I imagine some fan blades are getting discolored at Apple as there seems to also be related issues with the M3 Macs introductions. The iMac is still M1. Despite all the verbal noise, running side by side comparisons of my M1 Mac devices (Mac Studio and 14" MBPro) against the same model with M2 chips there is not enough incremental processor gain to offset an over 50% depreciation in the trade in allowance.

I think we are rapidly approaching the point of the improvements being a fraction of a blink of then eye and almost indiscernible.

The IO speeds need to increase dramatically to fully utilize this new equipment in the office space. We are seeing 10Gb speeds over copper wire (vs fiber optics) out in the hinterlands, but most homes and offices have 100 Mb connectivity and some are just getting to Gigabit Ethernet. Most folks do not have the ethernet cableing in place in their homes to support the faster speeds.

Remember the days of the ADB port????? Sneaker net was quicker, just take a floppy over to the guy.

Man, I understand this is MacRUMORS but I am still awaiting my iPhone 15 Pro and already getting rumors about what the iPhone 16 may be carrying?
I hope you enjoy your new phone! ✌️

(Don't let this kind of stuff steal those moments of joy before it eventually/inevitably becomes routine on its own.)

Respect for those who got the 15, but I’m so glad I decided to hold off.
I've never understood this, "I'm so glad I decided to hold off." Probably the most-overused meme on this board. It's so easy to upgrade every year now with minimal to no change in monthly payment. Why wait a year or two to have the best? Life is too short to wait "for next year" for anything simply because "next year's model" will be even nicer.

Something tells me you will enjoy your iPhone regardless of all this other talk. I bought a brand new SE a few weeks ago and love it. I love it so much I may upgrade to the "15" just because I can.

Well, my iPhone 15 Pro Max still feels like a nice upgrade over my 13 Pro. Bigger display, USB-C, better cameras, dynamic island, thinner bezels, love the titanium/curved sides. Regardless of how disappointed some are, it’s still a fantastic phone. The rate of impressive upgrades year-to-year are mostly done.
