Okay i talked to a person at Apple and At&t (good friends) after begging them they said Dec it's Coming out. Going to have 3G 100% that's all they're telling me.. and soon I'll be working for Cingular/At&t!! yay!!! Stay Tune for More info as i get more...

THIS IS NOT A RUMOR

May see a 3G iPhone for Europe before December.

Think they are busy working on this one, Leopard, the next iPod, iMacs and who knows what.

But hey...........it's not a rumor.

PS: All above it me just guessing..........not a rumor either. :p

wutever u'll believe it when u see it Dec iPhone 2.0 Just watch...

I doubt its 2.0, it'll be a rev. B if anything, but 2.0 implies a completely new product. 3G December is plausible for the European market.

It's been confirmed... u'll see it when u believe it. it is called iPhone 2.0 u can believe or don't...i said wut i heard from my friend who works at apple. it's been announced.

I suspect the iPhone will be the slowest of all Apple products as far as major revisions. They are attaching people to 2 year plans with them and telling them "hey, having only Edge is no big deal" so I doubt you will see revisions closer than a year apart and more likely 18-24 months. In the middle, you will see firmware upgrades, and perhaps hardware mods that will be seemless to the end user. Even the iPods last 2 major revisions were not within a year.

Lastly, with the iPod locked to ATT and with 2-3 million early adopters your market for a new version has shrunk considerably if you release a new one in months. Does anyone really want V2 to sell way less than V1? Nope... I personally dont think you will see another major iPhone revision until they are done with the ATT exclusive.

Confirmed by who? Not sure how old you are but dont be so naive as to think someone who works at a company knows the inner workings. Unless you work on the development team, you wont be privy to that kind of info. Announced? Again, dont be so naive. Who would KILL the market for their flagship new buzz product by announcing the superior predecessor due in less than 6 months?

True i didn't say a WHOLE NEW iPHONE or anything i said newer model.. just like the MacBook Pro and the iMacs and the Airport.. if u notice at lest every 6 months apple upgrades something. so this' would be the 2nd gen iPhone. And ppl would buy it u know why?.. b/c if ur an existin att customer.. they'll just extend ur contact another 2yrs or so... and ppl dont' care cuz it's the iPhone.. from apple. Steve knows wut he is doing.. or else he wouldn't have succeeded wit the iPods... or anything else.. the ipods are now in there 5th or 6 gen now.. right?

Doesn't the ATT exclusive last for 5 years? That's a mighty long time, likely we'll see as ash said updates through downloads ect, and a major update of course which can be counted on just by common sense, in 2 years for sure as current iPhoners will be ending contracts and need a new phone. I'm expecting that instead of a whole new iPhone, just smaller versions to cater to those that don't like the large size and don't need all the features. Also, is it plausible for Apple to have a Euro iPhone (3G) and a US version (edge)?

Alright ...Only Time can tell....

Ipod was released on 10/23/01 and there have been 4 revisions as we are now on revision 5 with the ipod video. That means 4 revisions in nearly 6 years. It has been over 18 months since there was a major ipod revision and the average has been around a year between revisions.

Ipod's are different, the market for MP3 players was emerging. You didnt have to convert people to a service and away from their current device. The VAST majority of iPhones will be people converting to the iPhone, not getting a cell phone for the first time.

As many people are rumoring (that is NOT a confirmation or announcement) Apple may announce iPhone 2.0 in December or January but, as with the iPhone, it may be 6+ months from them before they hit the market. Even if that happens I expect a 1.5 type of upgrade, maybe more memory, better battery, etc. I will be STUNNED if they announce a 3G, GPS unit in 6 months as they would essentially kill all sales of iPhones as people wait for the new version.

Bottom line, 2.0 is coming... just dont know when. A widescreen touch driven iPod has been rumored for well over 2 years.

That's True. We'll see.. i'm not saying your wrong. but u got a point there. i'm just saying wut i heard from a friend of mine that works in apple.. upper level... but yea...

I can see the Nano phone at $249 happening. If the ATT exclusive is 5 years then we should see 2 more revisions at least, one pretty major. The real problem with releasing a major upgrade too soon is that you can really alienate your base. I mean, if there could be a 3G/GPS phone 6 months from now then... why not one today? Or why not wait 6 months to release it? Does Jobs want to step up and say, "We had this technology all along, sorry to the 2 million people who bought the iPhone 1.0 we were just trying to make a quick buck." If you give yourself time, the public will be more forgiving.

You have to forgive people for taking this claim with a pinch of salt... how a 19 year-old is privy to executive-level product planning within Apple — ringed by contractual NDAs — is a bit of a stretch.

Very true, definitely a nano type phone in the future will be an awesome addition to the line and will make people forget temporarily about the next iPhone revision. I just find it hard to see the iPhone's release in Europe w/o 3G, being in Asia it's a big deal, I don't know about how big a deal it is in Europe for phones this price though. Anyways, sounds spot on that Jobs won't alienate the people who have purchased the iPhone by releasing a new one so quickly (6-12 months).

u got a point there also... lol. I guess we'll see. but there is Upper version coming up.. in Dec. but u got me there...

I think that at the absolute earliest we will hear an announcement at macworld 2008 and it will be shipping in another 6 months. there will probably be 3G for europe though around december though.

How do you think your friends at Apple and AT&T know this?

Because they heard it from other people who heard it from other people.

Nobody in any position of knowing at Apple and AT&T actually told them. If you believe that.. well uh... er...

and as others said this is most likely going to be a European version. Regardless enjoy your employment at AT&T. Just one word of advice. If someone asks you a question and you don't know the answer, tell them you don't know, don't just make something up.

I have to say I am sceptical about an iPhone 2.0 so soon after iPhone 1.0 launch, however the rumours of a 3G version for Europe are music to my ears as I'm from England and can't wait for the iPhone to arrive. However I don't see how a 3G version is possible without altering the form factor of the handset. Steve Jobs said recently that the 3G chipsets used to much power and were not integrated enough and therefore to large for the iPhone.

However we don't have Edge technology in the UK, it's normal GSM or 3G so I hope the rumours are true:)

But the 2nd Gen iPod was released just 9 months after the first.

I suspect that 3G/3.5G iPhones will be released in Europe and Asia at launch.

Im guessing it will include the rumoured big software update to add better functionality - small things as well as potential big ones like iChat. This update will also be available to v1 iPhone owners, meaning that there will be no functional differences between v1 and v2 - just faster web.
