Question: Why is the .ipcc file grayed out when I go to click on it through the "option-update" technique? It won't let me choose it at all. Thanks!

~Dave

I've got MMS and tethering working on the 3.0GM. I followed the 9to5mac.com site on installing the 8.2b7 iTunes on my iMac (I always leave older versions on my iMac and use my MacBook on all new versions and syncing my iPhone) so I just upgraded to this version. I then used the iPhoneTether program from the comments on the same post to put my AT&T carrier to 4.9. I've had tethering working since then. I then downloaded the AT&T carrier 5.0 and installed it on my iPhone. Both MMS and tethering work fine now. I haven't called AT&T or changed any settings anywhere, it just worked. I do have a 1500 Business to Business texting plan though (Text Msging 1500 B2B on my bill).

found this on another site, which helped me with the same issue:

Apple have disabled the capability of updating the Carrier files (via IPCC) files in itunes 8.2 but If you want to update your carrier files with the latest itunes 8.2 you can do it this way.

Make sure itunes is not running

Mac - open a terminal and type in..
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Windows - open up a command shell and type in (with the quotes as well):
“%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE”

This should now allow you to update your iPhones IPCC file in itunes 8.2

what sort of prompt on a windows machine should you get back if it works? i so far have been unable to get the command to work. Thanks.

Jingles.

P.S what i get back is The system cannot find the path specified.
Starting at C> in the command prompt. trying to get this working as i do not want to downgrade my itunes. Thanks for any help.

Going that route it wouldn't recognize my phone anymore

Has anyone tried this with success?

I was wondering what you did to get the MMS to work. I have the 1500 B2B as well with the 5.0 carrier settings. I went from 4.0 to 5.0 though. I can't imagine that would make a difference. Under cell network it shows mms, are there any other menus you need to turn on mms? Tethering works just fine for me.

Where is the AT&T carrier 5.0 file?

Sorry. I didn't make the connection that AT&T carrier 5.0 was Payload6.ipcc. Payload6.ipcc worked great. All options showing for tethering and MMS. Tethering works great, MMS tries to send but ends up with the red exclamation point. Any ideas?

Well i must say the early posts were very helpful to me so i'd like to return the favor.

BG: I had mms working without any modifications. When i enabled tethering i lost MMS. when i tried to edit files to get mms they were unsuccessfull. WHen i restored from a backup before i fuddled with carrier files mms came back.

Current situation: updated to beta 5. lost mms. lost tethering (it asked me to turn it on). SOlution: i did some backwards engineering. I jail broke into my beta 4...looked at the loaded carrier settings where my mms was working..lol then basically combined the two files.

First load attempt: MMS did not show up, tethering option was there but could not be enabled.

Long story short, i was able to get a version working that allowed MMS & Tethering to work together.

My phone is loaded with beta 5, no jail break, and has working MMS & Tether on AT&T.

FYI: the mms settings on this site were not what was on my iphone.
These settings worked for me. The only thing I did was install one file with the help of iClarified instructions found here:
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4209
I didnt even use any other files but the one on this tutorial.
I did not have to downgrade iTunes to do it either, just followed their instructions for Terminal.
Then within the settings >
general>network>cellular data In the 1st bracket I only entered :
(This is under the APN settings) username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
password: CINGULAR1

Then under MMS settings :
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY: wireless.cingular.com:80
MMS MAX MESSAGE SIZE:614400
(Same settings as swirly but not the max message size-thats new)
I rebooted the iphone and viola! I had the mms setting features now there, before only tethering. this is an easier fix if you ask me

This is not working for me. I still can't load the file into itunes, the "ATT_Us.bundle" file is still grayed out even after using the terminal line posted on iClarified. Am I suppose to open that ATT file with something else and then load a certain file from that bundle into itunes?? Is the terminal window suppose to be left open when i open itunes?? So confused, sorry

Dude I got a better site for you and everyone else looking for mms/tethering enabling options.
All you need is your iphone. This is the most fool proof instructions I have ever found. Does not involve your pc/mac either:

iMacoo7,
Great find! Tethering now works like a charm :) It took all of 2 minutes to set up and get internet access on my windows box. Went to speedtest.com and got a download speed of 3.28Mb/sec. Friggin' sweeeeeeet!!!!
No joy with MMS. Still will not send. Although the camera icon shows now in my texting window and the picture I'm sending shows up in the text chat (with red exclamation point).

ive updated to AT&T 5.0 now but I dont have carrier settings under my network settings still. . . is this something AT&T won't show and I have to call for or should I be seeing that carrier setting menu now?

I keep getting an iTunes error when trying to upgrade the carrier settings.

I keep getting an iTunes error when trying to upgrade the carrier settings.

Again.... Read my post on this page just a few persons up......
Goto the link I have provided :
http://www.ismashphone.com/2009/06/activate-internet-tethering-now-on-iphone-os-30.html
You need nothing more but your iphone.
Better yet:
http://tr.im/oS1h
Goto that link above on your iphone...
The link above will install your carrier settings automatically for you(You will still have to chose which carrier when you are presented with the screen. The very first link you can go and see what feature set the second link if you are unsure.
I havent heard of any problems from friends and others going to the link. There isnt a need for iTunes sync or plugging into iTunes.

Has anyone tried this with success?

Greetings

I haven't tried this yet, but I believe there is a typo.

“%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE"

I believe the command should read:

“%CommonProgramFiles%\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\defaults.exe" write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Notice the end quote is after the executeable and before the switches. This should make the command work without an error.

Don't worry I let At&t know what job they need to be doing. I think they have been doing something else during the summer. They should be back on track with MMS now. Sometimes people just need a little direction.
