All this stuff is just gibberish to a lot of people, including me. Can anyone post an easy to understand guide, or a link to one?

Or maybe just say whether or not tethering should appear as an option without having to take any action?

For me, my iPhone is barely changed after 3.0, at least on the surface, and there's no option anywhere to enable tethering.

Is there ay way to undo this completely without restoring?
(Visual Mail appears to have been broken by this)

Thanks

That links tells you how to get tethering in 3 steps.

Thanks

When I lost my VVM I first tried calling my voicemail and listening to one of the messages. Then I hung up and checked VVM and it was back. The time before when I applied this hack I lost VVM completely and had to restore. So if you have tried calling or any of the other tricks people have detailed in this thread and still have no VVM, I am afraid you are going to have to restore.

Yep. Visual Voicemail is caput, and I just want to get rid of everything.

How?

I just went to settings/general/reset and selected Reset Network Settings and that recovered visual mail functionality - I still have the tethering option but it probably no longer works.

I needed to turn the 3G phone off/on to resync with ATT voice and 3G and needed to once again log in into Wi-Fi

I was able to remove by going to setting/general/profiles and remove the ATT profile. Tethering was removed and VVM began to work again.

Does anyone have the tethering working on a computer running Tiger? It appears to be working fine on the phone, but the computer does not recognize it at all plugged in via USB.

Thanks.

No. Tethering uses the standard APN data settings. It looks no different as if you're just browsing using Mobile Safari. Could Apple packet check to tell? Sure. Probable? No. Not if you stay under the 5 GB (U.S.) softcap, cause then you'd have no reason to have your account flagged.

If you view the detailed data billing records on your account you will see that prior to activating the ipcc/mobileconfig files, all access is labeled as coming from 'phone' after installing the files to enable tethering it shows as 'wap.cingular'. So they will be able to see a difference, what they will do about it is anyone's guess.

i downloaded the mobileconfig and have my iphone connected via bluetooth to the computer, but when i try to open a web page it wont let me, says i have no connection to network

Tethered my 12" PowerBook with my iPhone 3G via Bluetooth last night. Worked like a charm but I'm too fearful of getting caught lol. I've always been a little over cautious but it's cool to know I have it incase of some type of emergency.

The same for me. It doesn't even have the option for MMS

I can't connect to anything on any computer. I can only load the program, pair, see the tethering switch, but nothing talks to each other.

I have no idea how everyone got this working but props to you.

Have you opened up "Network" in system preferences? When you plug in the iPhone it should state that it has found a new network interface.

Under the bluetooth icon on my laptop, I can see my phone, then a "connect" button. I hit that and nothing happens.

I assume it doesn't work with 3GS.

does anyone know if it is even safe to use the tethering just yet.....I dont want to get a huge bill for using it.

Anyone get a bill yet???I know its only been a week, so i doubt it....

i have used the profile and it works very easliy.....

I just got my normal bill. Been using tethering very lightly -- only a few minutes a day. But nothing abnormal on my bill. Same as always

I have been doing the same... Just light duty over the tethering...

It's good to hear that your bill is as normal.... Do we have any reason to believe that ATT can tell later on if we are using this???
