Try keeping the bluetooth window open on the iphone until pairing is complete.

I'm in the same boat. I can pair the phone to the computer, but I can't tether over bluetooth. No issues with USB.

Any ideas?

Brian

Doing this now! I'm so excited, the only reason I even needed to hack my iPhone in the first place was to enable tethering so while I'm at work I can bring my netbook along! This is GREAT news! :D:D

I can't get it to pair, do you have to do anything special? Or is it just like pairing anything else?

It's just like pairing anything else. Then, when it tries to connect it will briefly (like 3 seconds) get a connection and then drop it immediately. Not sure if I have to change the settings or anything.

While trying to pair, a message pops up on my iPhone to accept the pair and the pair number. I say pair, then it fails. Really frustrating!

When I follow the steps from 9to5mac.com Do i have to do it on the laptop i'm gonna be using for the tethering or can I do all that from my desktop?

I got it to work, but I lost my VM, and my phone went a little crazy, like when I called it, it just gave me the slide to answer option, not the green answer or red decline button.

Bluetooth tethering works fine for me too. It paired fine and I was able to surf the web with it. It's a really nice experience.

Mine is just not working. maybe someone can post a complete video of every step they took to make it work, so us noobs can track down our problems easier :)

How did you get bluetooth tethering to work???? I have been searching all over and cannot figure out what to do. My "connect to network" option when I click on my phone remains grayed out.

When you go to the Bluetooth System Preferences, make sure you click connect iPhone and make sure you press your computer's name on the iPhone at the same time. This worked for me and I was connected.

I'm just going to wait until there's an inevitable "everything completely works for everyone with much ease" tethering option. Should happen within the next few days.

Worked like a charm but now I don't have visual voicemail. Any suggestions? LOL

Try this one. This i set the type mask to -3 instead of -2 inside of the carrier.plist itself within the .ipcc. I believe I read somewhere that a type mask of -2 sets APN settings to wap.cingular for tethering and MMS only, but -3 leaves visual voicemail up to your individual carrier settings (in which case you can reset your network settings and it should work if this .ipcc doesn't work immediately after installing). Reboot your phone after installing this.

If this doesn't allow you to have tethering and VV active, then i am out of ideas. Worth a shot though. (Remove .zip extension as it is not a .zip file, keep the .ipcc extension).

*****posted from tethered iPhone*****

I tried like everyone else to get the MMS working. Got tethered but no VVM then got fed up and restored.

Now I used (I didn't use the method in the first post before) the method from the first post and now the tethered works as well as my VVM ... YAY!

I have Netshare, but this is MUCH easier. Netshare filled the void and at the price when I bought it, it's more than paid for itself, but now life is much simpler. Now just to wait for ATT and MMS and I'll be one happy camper.

FYI, got this working on a iPhone3G 8g model.

Ok, I opened the mobileconfig file and searched for the -2 and changed it to -3 as outlined above. My VVM works now as I tether!!!!

Thanks

I followed the link in the original post of this thread and I now have BT tethering, it's fantastic. So easy, no hacking or jailbreaking required. 2 minutes.
