3.0

has anyone else had the problem where your phone will shut off for no reason and the only way you can get it back on is to do a hard reset! this happens at least 3-4 a day. Has anyone else had this problem?

this was already and issue in 3.0

Does 3.1 fix the iphone 3g GPS issue?

From my experience and from reading forums there is an issue where GPS on the iphone 3g is disabled?! I'm waiting for 3.1 to fix this. Or maybe the GPS has failed in a number of iphone 3g's?

GPS is really crappy on 3.1 beta 2 still. On the 3GS it's perfect, but it doesn't work (or it hardly works at all) in 3.0/3.1. Sorry.

I never get the small blue dot anymore... I just get a large circle that doesn't move.

I get the same large circle that doesn't pin point anymore. Very frustrating!! Using motionX Gps lite I never get a lock on any satelittes, it only gets Network Triangulation. I have left this running for hours outdoors but still have never got a GPS signal.

I thought this would definetly be fixed in 3.1, it just seems like GPS has been disabled totally..

I am running a 3GS with 3.0b2 and GPS is fine - I have the Sygic app with maps for Australia and I can't complain. With the iPhone mounted in a Kensington cigarette lighter holder (that makes it sit low in the car) I get no less than 3 bars of signal as I drive around. Position updating is good with no noticeable lag.

Google Maps is also good

No problems here in Australia with Telstra on 3.1 beta 2.

Pinpoints location almost 99% of the time.

Now the compass on the other hand needs some work.

We weren't talking about the iPhone 3GS. We're talking about how GPS doesn't even work anymore on the iPhone 3G. It works fine on the 3GS.

my gps doesnt work after upgrading to 3.0
had two 3g's which worked perfect on 2.0 and gps stopped working on both of them.
disappointing that it isnt fixed in 3.1

Very disappointing that it isnt fixed. I did take the long process of downgrading to 2.2.1 but this didn't help...I think once you've upgraded to 3.0 the modem firmware is also upgraded and can't be downgraded?? and this is what is stopping the gps from working?? tell me if this is a fair asumption?

Fix the GPS apple! COME ON!!

This GPS issue is driving me crazy!!! I need a functioning gps system!! When is 3.1 coming out???

It can't be the software. I get locks with 3.0 on my old 3G as well. Not as fast as my 3GS perhaps 10secs longer.

Are you developing an app that uses GPS?

I don't think he was saying that he was using 3.1. I assumed he was using 3.0/3.0.1 and his GPS isn't working.

By the way... on 3.1, the GPS still doesn't work nearly as well as it did in 2.2.1. It used to follow my exact location perfectly... now all I get is a big circle that doesn't move.

Gps

I'm on 3.0.1 on a 3g iphone (not developing an app, just a general user, who wants GPS functioning!). Problem is that the phone was dropped in water so apple will not do a warranty job on it. There was no problems after the iphone was dried out, everything worked fine...then came 3.0!! Nice improvements but not when it disables GPS!

I'll wait til 3.1 see if apple recognises that there is a problem, hope that the update has a fix. otherwise will have to consider other options...

If it is a hardware problem is it a common occurance for the GPS chip/sensor? to stop working?

I am running 3GS and GPS is working fine - I am running Sygic Navigation in my car (Australia/ NZ Maps) and have no complaints - Also updated to latest 3.1b

I don't think thats a 3.0 issue. That sounds like the water fried that chip.

Reset Network Settings. If that doesn't work, reset all settings.

All my friends including me get solid GPS locks in Maps on 3.0/.1 on the 3G in Australia. So I doubt its the software.

Is there a thread over at Apple Discussions regarding this issue?

I've not read about this issue on any other forum board as well.

When I first installed 3.0, my GPS sucked hard. After I reset my settings, GPS has been working just like in 2.2.1. So yes, it is software.

That's probably why it works for me. I restored to 3.0 n setup as a new phone. In any case if that's the issue then it's fixable at this moment. No need to wait for 3.1

Theres a video on youtube...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoK-rYsVu_c

My iphone 3g is like the one on the right all the time! I've reset settings, downgraded to 2.2.1 with no joy!!

It seems like a few people have this problem after doing a search on google..I just want to know if its a hardware or software problem?

There really is no fixed solution to this problem. I did a restore and set up as new phone and it did nothing for me. I know it works for some people but not everyone. I'm fairly sure this is a software problem, but the only thing that finally worked for me was going to the Apple store and getting it replaced.

GPS is still not as good as it used to be on 2.2.1. I remember that version of the software basically being a live update of my location once GPS had locked on, and now it's just an accurate reading of my location, but one that only updates every few seconds.

I had mega GPS problems in 3.0. The dot would just stop and wouldn't move. Then I "Reset All Settings" and the problem went away. The dot accurately followed my car through town live.

I'm still not sure why this method worked for me and not for others, but I've also downgraded to 2.2.1 and GPS is still accurate for me. It's definitely a software problem and not a hardware problem. If it were a hardware problem, I wouldn't have gotten it to work no matter what.
