iPhone 3.1 beta available to developers

I don't really care how long those features have been on other phones.
They're now finally on a phone that's good!

...and the video quality is 1000 times better than on other phones. No exaggeration. I could make DVDs out of iPhone videos and they'd be reasonable to watch. You can't say that about video out of any other smartphone or regular cell phone that I've tried.

I'd rather Apple wait until they have something perfected before releasing it, rather than giving us the same crappy quality that other phones have.

i had the AT&T carrier file 5.0 when i upgraded to the 3.1 beta. When i look on my phone i saw that i still was running the 5.0 file instead of the 4.2. Any Idea? If i downgraded to the carrier file 4.0 and then updated again to 3.1 beta, will that change the settings to 4.2??

You can just load in the 4.2 carrier file. No need to redo the 3.1

Just load the 4.0 file and when you sync, it should update your carrier settings to 4.2, but I'm not sure.

You're welcome.
Hopefully it works. If not, you can always just reload 5.0 again.
I don't know if it will let you go to 4.0, since 4.2 is the version in 3.1.

I installed 3.1. I'm on AT&T in the Chicagoland area. Don't see the option for carrier or tethering. Just sent out an MMS...it didn't work for me. Sad

AT&T is waiting till the 3.1 official release to enable MMS

They could actually change the colour temperature through a firmware update: I believe they've done it in the past.
What they should really do is let people change it themselves through settings. That would eliminate all the problems

Exactly. I much prefer a blueish tint over a yellowish tint. I also hope they add the ability to turn off landscape mode for the entire phone. (Keyboard. I know you need landscape for some games, YouTube, etc..)

Those are third party apps. MySpace and Facebook would have to implement this themselves.

Major Bug in 3.1

has anyone else had the problem where your phone will shut off for no reason and the only way you can get it back on is to do a hard reset! this happens at least 3-4 a day. Has anyone else had this problem?

sounds like you need to reinstall 3.1...i've had no issues.

It was a trap I laid out by my own stupidity because I didn't read the thread thoroughly before putting 3.1 on my iPhone 3GS. If I had, I would have known that I would have to register the UUID with an Apple developer account. And you can't downgrade because 3.1 introduces a new baseband firmware. Totally my own fault, and I consider the $105 a "stupidity tax".

my stupidity backed me into that $105 corner also. +1 to stoopid.

I just installed 3.1 on my new 3GS. For those that have the Parrot CK3100 Handsfree Car Kit, the Bluetooth control now lets the CK3100 access Voice Control on the 3GS with a single push of the green button. I now have handsfree use of the phone and the ipod controls. SWEET!!!

Worth installing 3.1 for this one feature alone!

I'm having the same issue. It seems to only happen at my home, when I have have very poor signal. I haven't noticed it shutting off while I'm at work and have 5 bars of 3G.
